I'll probably buy it all if the game is good (no demo until thursday). :(

Bought all courses and characters for HSG: OoB.

£27 if you look around online, and here's hoping the Season Pass will be no more than £10...

was hoping to buy digitally - the kind of game that benefits from dipping in. Although it could be my 'welded in' card for a while (not much coming up that I can see). Also digitally I'd get the GBC version free.

Where is it £27?

edit: oh, Euro store has the demo already? Nice.

Nintendo season pass? Well that's a first. Makes me wonder if we'll see this (and DLC in general) for MK8 and Smash Bros. I'd certainly buy it.

And, like all other season passes, I won't get it day one. I'll see if I like this game enough. But that is some pretty extensive DLC for a Mario Golf game, I never would have expected it.

It looks like you're getting a lot of content for what you're paying for, so it's no problem. Also the base game is $30 which makes sense.

I will probably end up buying all this DLC either way .-.

There seem to be people who like and dislike Season Passes.

I mean, once you buy it you have access to all the DLC, right? Or you can elect to buy the packs separately.

What makes Season Passes divisive? Is it something inherent, or is it more about exploitation by the companies involved?

Just curious. I've never really inquired about it before.

At least with this Season Pass, you know what you're getting - it's essentially a discount on all of the DLC packs, similar to what Fire Emblem Awakening did with the DLC maps, just labelled with the tag 'Season Pass'.

Season Pass with other companies is usually synonymous with 'We will try to sell you extra fluff with 1 or 2 actual decent pieces of extra content' - here, it looks like it's essentially a discount on buying all of the DLC at once.

How much was Toadstool Tour new on the Cube? I'm just going to assume $40, I guess?

For $30 you get a complete game with about the same amount of content as the last one in the series, and it's cheaper. I don't care whether the DLC was completed before or after the game went to print, that is a fair expectation and fair price. It's not like they stripped stuff out to give it to use piecemeal.

I don't really see what's so bad about this. That's a lot of content for a decent price and the original game (which had the same amount of content as previous Mario Golf games) is cheaper.

And people should have seen that coming, Fire Emblem Awakening's DLC made Nintendo quite a lot of money. Mario Sports game are a good fit for that kind of DLC.

I guess people see the word DLC and Season Pass and immediately get angry for no reason.

To be clear on this, I'll probably buy this DLC if it's quality content. I'm worried about Nintendo opening the season pass door but if they are smart about it it might not be a bad thing. A steady stream of MK8 tracks or SSB stages after release could be a pretty cool thing, in all honesty, and being able to buy them bundled at a discounted price is also something I could learn to appreciate.

If any company could get me interested in DLC it's Nintendo. I just hope they stay smart.

Day one dlc...from Nintendo... :(

But then I love the look of this game so much that it kind of sounds appealing. What is this witchcraft.

Just wait until the Mario Kart season pass announcement. Heads will explode.

I want Nintendo to do DLC for Mario Kart. Because MK7 felt so bare even after unlocking everything. If they can add more circuits to MK8 later down the line, I'll give them all my money.

Would it have, though? Or would the content simply not existed in the first place?
There's obviously no way of knowing that, but the fact is this allows publishers to pull out content and sell it separately, and it's a shame to see Nintendo get it on it. I guess it was inevitable.

I'm not against DLC. I think Harmonix nailed it with Rock Band. It was a great way to extend the life of the game. Day one DLC only exists to make a little extra cash. There's no reason why it could be included when it's already done.

I think it's more because they're usually accompanied by a vague description of what you're getting.

This seems to be getting hate just for the negative connotations the phrase has, they've outlined exactly what you're getting, release dates etc so there's no problem.

What the hell does season pass even mean? Is it similar to having season pass tickets for a team, then you pay for another season pass for the next season?

Regardless, i don't think i've ever paid for dlc.

Welp, now we have precedence going forward. Nintendo, whose current console install base sits at less than 6 million, pulls a move that not only alienates the customers that they already have, but also alienates new ones.

This is gonna bite them so hard in the ass...

Honestly, I'd be all for it so long as ALL the content is worthwhile and help up to the correct standard. If it comes off as sincere rather than exploitative, then it's all good.

In this case (or every case?) it's just the choice to get ALL DLC for a discounted price.

Doesn't sound so bad considering this is Nintendo

My only problem with this is the Day One DLC it just feels like something that could've been added to the game imo of-course I could be entirely wrong. Still $15 is not much considering how big the packs are! Hell the game is already sold at $30 and with the DLC its only $5 more than other first party Nintendo games on the 3DS.

I'm for Mario Kart and Smash Bros. Season Pass/DLC frankly. Those are two games I can play for YEARS after launch.

I've seen people saying it would have been better for Nintendo to wait a month or so to 'reveal' this. Would it really be though? At least this way they are upfront about it an tell you how much content is in the main game and how much you will get from jumping in on the season pass.

I dislike day1 DLC as much as the next person but seeing as there is DLC for every major game now, I find it ridiculous that companies pretend it isn't planned from the very start by announcing it later. Sure there are cases where the development of the DLC continues after the game is released but at least the way Nintendo is upfront about it with Mario Golf.

If Nintendo doesn't do the same with Smash Bros and Mario Kart, they're idiots. I think most people would happily pay for extra characters/stages/courses for those games, as long as the original releases had a good amount of that stuff to begin with.

Now that the initial shock has warn off, I'm okay with this. I honestly have no problems with a season pass and if one came out for Mario Kart 8 or Smash Bros I would buy it in a heartbeat.

I dont get this mentality. Up until an hour ago you were happy to buy a game that was COMPLETE at 10 courses with 120+ holes, but now DLC is announced that expands on this, the game somehow loses value?

Unless you were in involved in the development of this game I don't know why you would be so sure that the game was already "complete" before they decided to do DLC and they didn't just take the stuff out to sell for more $ later. It's a business practice that I flat refuse to support.

I think it's meant more like a season of a TV show.

DLC is a bit like mobile games. Yeah, lots of it is crap. Yeah, lots of it is exploitative. There are gems out there though, well worth paying for. Just try to be a smart consumer and this stuff never has to bite you on the ass. It can enhance your games, and your gaming.

Most people have absolutely no issues with DLC you know.

Would you go as far as saying that they shot themselves in the foot?
