Ok so, the Famitsu article mentioned a new gameplay mode in P4U2 with character growth and social link shiz

Please be good.

I wouldn't be surprised if Ultimax's story structure is more like Blazblue: Chronophantasma's, which has three story paths that each follow different characters. That'd cut down on the repetition that was present in Arena's story mode, and would also eliminate continuity issues like the winner of the tournament being different in every story mode.

So Ive been hearing the last few pages that people seem to think that the way Ultimax handles the story is going to change because it was horrible in the first game (I haven't played the game yet :( ), have the developers said they will change it becuase they heard the criticism or it's only what people hope for?

Becuase P4A1 had a very similar story structure to Blazblue Calamity Trigger and Balzblue Continuum Shift. Blazblue Chrono Phantasma has a much better story structure, so people want/assume it will follow the tradition of being like the current Blazblue.

Okay this week’s Famitsu leaks are coming in really early, though much information is still missing.
>For P4U2, the release date has been confirmed to be sometime in August and will be priced at 6XX0 Japanese yen.
>And yes, Rise is confirmed to be joining the roster. Battle style seems to be in the style of “LISTEN TO MY SONG.” (???) Seriously though, if she’s beating people up with a microphone and its stand to do battle, that will be all sorts of hilarious and awesome.
>Every character from Persona 3 and 4 will have their individual story being told in the Story Mode.
>There is a new mode called “XX Arena Mode”, in which apparently your characters growth is tightly linked to your social link with the voice navigator (so Rise is joining the roster and still acting as Voice Navigator, okay….).
>Again, all these are really just hazy leaks for those of you who want all your leaks and rumours first hand. I’m sure come tomorrow, there will be more as well as clearer information about what all these mean.

Alright, I won't talk about it then.

Since I'm here, I do have to say that Hell Biker has got to be my favorite persona. He reminds me of Ghost Rider, and he's one of my top heroes. I think I like him better without a helmet. I know it's safety first, but he's dead. He don't need a helmet. I don't think the one in Persona 2 had a helmet.

Nah, talk about it. I look at my Persona 4 game case, and I clearly see the words "Shin Megami Tensei" on it. :p

I'm new to this OT, but am I allowed to talk about SMT 3 Nocturne here? I just got it yesterday and have been playing it a lot. I'm not sure if this is Persona games only, or if SMT games in general count as well?

I'd say go for it just because it's not uncommon for people to talk about other Megaten games they're playing here, or even other animes and stuff. Hell, this was practically the second DanganRonpa OT for a while (spoilers abound).

I just wouldn't go too overboard with talking about Nocturne here. You may want to make a LTTP thread if you want to discuss it more in-depth.

Nocturne is my favorite Persona spinoff.

Hell, I plan to talk about SMT sometimes. I'm more than halfway through the first SMT1, with no signs of stopping. This may be the very first SMT game I actually play through. Once this is done(and Dark Souls 2 is done), Nocturne should be next. :D

So I can have Rise Social Link with Rise?

Game of the forever.

Here's a thing:

(Image is episode link)

Great conversation on this one, Shidoshi came back for the first time in a while! Corvo was a natural too, super smart guy.

Thanks to Armada, Corvo, Shidoshi, and Scrafty for coming on.

(Warning: last 5 mins is just me and Armada tearing into Rogue Galaxy, I was in tears)

First time im hearing the podcast and it's excellent at the moment. Will continue hearing them while I draw.
BTW at the start you say there is a fake Persona 5 trailer done and an april fools joke parodying the "mature" videogame storylines. It's there a link to it? I would love to wacth it.

Becuase P4A1 had a very similar story structure to Blazblue Calamity Trigger and Balzblue Continuum Shift. Blazblue Chrono Phantasma has a much better story structure, so people want/assume it will follow the tradition of being like the current Blazblue.

From what people are saying hopefully it happens...

>Every character from Persona 3 and 4 will have their individual story being told in the Story Mode.

NVM CRAPPY STORY STRUCTURE STILL CONFIRMED

And it seems is not going to happen. Sorry guys :(

When it comes to the P4 Ultimax story, does anyone else think that since the fights are against the shadow cast, that there will be less confusing overlap?

Hopefully, if it is the case that each character has their own story, then it will go something like this

Yu
Collective Intro>>>fights>>>Meets up with, lets say aigis>>>fights>>>Collective End

Aigis
Collective Intro>>>fights>>>Meets with Yu>>>fights>>>Collective End

This way the overlap isnt confusing and convoluted in terms of canon, Obviously the final fight will be the same but with your character of choice, Also keeping the main plot points the same for every character is key, rather than having everyone find labrys on their own like in P4A, having everyone arrive as a collective group would have worked way better.

This way should be a better method of handling the story, but do I think it will play out like this, no.
I like P4A story, but its just executed poorly. I hope that Ultimax has a canon that can be easily followed.

P4AU following the story mode structure of most ArcSys games isn't really a deal breaker by any means, but damn if I didn't want the BBCP style of storytelling.

Please me more varied than P4A. I swear if we have to go though 16 characters going "what's going on, I don't understand"...

God fucking DAMMIT

I should have been more cynical about this. I should have seen the possibility that they would double down on their convoluted, contradictory bullshit from P4A to P4AU. "Players will be able to interpret the story based on their own personal experiences, path or desires!" Same crap philosophy that apparently made it so that the P4 cast didn't have any of their evolved Personas, going from the P4A art book.

Fuck.

Not confirmed just yet. I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt here and assume that they've learned from their mistakes.

The social link system sounds intriguing.

But he shows up to help his senpais wearing a full baseball uniform including cleats?

I think he's just there by coincidence, I recall the story being that he was doing a little league thing and had a stop over in Inaba after he missed his train. And it just happens that that's when the crazy stuff starts.

He missed his train stop; he wasn't equipped for a war. It's the same exact reason he doesn't have his evoker with him and that he's fighting with a baseball bat (to which the other Shadow Operatives are making fun of him for it, like Mitsuru asking Junpei if there's something wrong with him).

Nocturne is my favorite Persona spinoff.

Alright, I only just wanted to talk about my impressions so far. So I won't talk about it too much.

I've put about 13hrs into the game, and I think I'm still in the beginning. The game is VERY hard. This is probably more difficult then P3FES was for me. I'd hate to admit this, but I've had to look up a guide on some of the bosses to fight them. Hardest boss for me, was
Thor
. All of my party was weak to electricity, so he was able to go 4 turns slaughtering my team. Someone eventually told me how to beat him, and I won the battle without even needing to heal.

At first I was skeptical about the game, since I hate "monsters are your party members" type of JRPG's. Especially when you can't equip them with items or equipment. It eventually started to click with me, and I thought it was cool to finally see some persona's in full model anyways. Once again, the talking to demons system is back. I always hated that in Persona 2. Example:

Inukami: "The weak should all be killed off, but kids are considered weak." "So should we kill the kids as well?" (Yes, this was a real question)
"No." (I chose this)
"Yes."
Inukami: (Was displeased with your answer)
Inukami: "I have something to do, see ya."

Some of the demons responses to these answers are random as heck. Some demons like nice answers, while some demons like evil answers. I can never tell which to choose. Which is why I always hated talking to demons. I don't have much to say about the story, since I don't understand it one bit. All I know is Tokyo is destroyed, and the demons are fighting for power.

Overall, I'm enjoying the game. I just got done
talking to some guy, and he told me about a prison
. So I'm guessing I need to head there.

Thoughts while I'm at work:

1. I really like the direction this Rise conversation has gone in.

2. P4A story style confirmed - Oh boy, I can't wait to hear Ken's internal monologue. :/

3. I wasn't huge on Arena's soundtrack, but man do I love the Arena mix of Reach Out to the Truth.

4. Rise's Final Smash Instant Kill should be True Story. Her Shadow's should be Awkward Stripper Dance.

As if she's one to talk.

Do the shadow characters have unique IK's?

Not necessarily .

Junpei makes it to the top of the tower first, which causes Sho to lose his shit.

I wouldn't worry about Junpei if I were you. His character arc is over and done with, and he's more composed than ever.

How canon are all of these arcade mode stories? Because it reminds me of like Yukiko being the one to rescue Labrys in her story and them bonding even though they have like zero chemistry.

Ohhh, I was wondering why Junpei was the only P3 character who doesn't use their evoker for their instant kill.

Zero chemistry, sure, but they're a perfect match. Yukiko is a shitty cook and Labrys doesn't have taste buds.

I was really hoping for a story mode similar to MK9 in it's execution. Shame they're going for the same approach as they did before.

Can't wait to hear more about Yukiko's cooking.

Rise's Ultimax portrait is kinda janky looking. Maybe it's just that it's kinda blurry though. Might look better up close.

Also, kinda neat that her win pose is based on her original Arena art.

He was in Inaba simply by chance I thought

You're missing the fact that he's wear a full baseball uniform when he's just a little league coach.
