Twitch Plays Pokemon Fire Red Randomizer: Return to the Land of Ghost Lorelei

The E3 was piss easy though.

Not even that. Asides from Bruno's team minus the healing boosting Snorlax and Green's minus Kingdra, nothing was that easy. Lorelei was ghost type with that ridiculous combo, Bruno had Snorlax, Agatha and the waters were good overall, Lance could poison our pokemon, etc.

We just had an amazing team
The other teas wouldve had hell against this E4

EDIT: Shoooot, we;re neve doing any pos game asides from Johto's, right?
We should ask streamer to let some post game happen, I REALLY wanted Battle Frontier and Steven, there was no Mewtwo for Red, and we had no Mewto or powered up E4 for this run

Powered up E4 couldve been so much fun

On the topic of potential "good" pokemon we can use for our run:
-Torterra. From polls I've seen, Turtwig is the most wanted starter right now. He's also the one the cursor defaults to, so we're most likely to choose him. This is good since he's the best Sinnoh starter anyway.
-Staraptor. Staraptor is pretty much the best generic early route bird pokemon ever. He's not only useful, but he's near guaranteed to be on our party! A well trained staraptor can probably solo the bug type E4. And if we're super lucky, it'll learn Close Combat too.
-Eevee. So we're given an Eevee early into the game which we're totally gonna use. As soon as we get it, we can head to the Moss Rock to train it into a Leafeon, but Leafeon kind of sucks and we'll likely already have Turtwig, so I think we'll decide against this. The next option is Glaceon, probably the best option type-wise, however to get a Glaceon we'll have to prevent it from evolving into Espeon or Umbreon until we reach the Ice Rock on the way to the 7th gym. This is not very likely, but it's certainly possible as we saw in Crystal, where Espeon evolved in Ice Path, at which point we had 7 badges. Glaceon would be AMAZING in the E4 to boot. Last of course is the 3 stone evolutions, but I wouldn't count on getting any of those. If we get lucky it's a possibility, but it's not likely.
-Rotom. In Platinum only, you can get Rotom as soon as you beat Gardenia! Rotom is a very popular pokemon, and interestingly typed, so it's quite likely we'll go out of our way to catch the little guy if it's night time when we beat the 2nd gym. Unfortunately, iirc you can't transform him without a special event item, which of course we won't have access to. Nonetheless Rotom would be a good addition to the team even in his Electric form.
-Togekiss. In addition to an Eevee, you also get a Togepi egg early in the game, given to you by Cynthia. We know the chat will want their Omelette 2.0, so this guy is probably gonna be on our team for a while. If he evolves into Togetic and then Togekiss he'll be an amazing asset!
-Garchomp. Anyone who's played a Gen 4 game knows about the cave where the fabled Gible hides. The chat has had a history of going out of their way to get stupidly powerful pokemon, and since this one is early in the game, I wouldn't count it out. If we get one of these it would wreck everything and everyone (except Candice).
-Kadabra. In the first gym town of the game, there's a trade that wants a Machop for a Kadabra (holding a fucking everstone). These machop are caught right outside of the city, so the chat might go after this for the return of Alpha!
-Lucario. It's no secret-everyone loves Lucario. And turns out, there's this guy called Riley on an Island off the coast of Canalave that gives you an egg for one! The chat might be willing to train up a Riolu if they get it, and if they do it would make for a great team member.
Giratina. If we stock up on Pokeballs for Mt Coronet or learn to give a pokemon the Master Ball to hold the moment we get it, we could very well catch Giratina, as it is a required fight. I wouldn't count on it though.
Azelf. This one is much more realistic. Azelf is probably the easiest to get to as well as most useful legendary of its trio. We could easily stock up on balls in an adjacent town, then run to its lake and catch it with minimal ball loss. This one has so few battles between it that I honestly can't see us wasting more than 5-10 balls on the way there. We can definitely catch this guy if we want to, and WE DO WANT TO, because this thing has a nasty special attack, a great movepool, and friggin' Nasty Plot as a default move. This little guy would wreck, and greatly help us with the E4. He can be caught right after we deal with Giratina. And I can guarantee there will be a push for him.

Bolded. Wat? WAT

sogood.gif

Otherwise I agree with most of what you're saying there, but I like Sinnoh as a region and I think it's one of the best personally.

Sorry, very little on that list strikes me as amazing. And you didn't even post the best two songs!

It's good that we're doing Platinum instead of DP because going against a level 66 Garchomp with a worse pool of Usable pokemon would be hell incarnate.

Playing DP in general would be shit. It has so many problems it's not even funny.

Btw, Crayolan, you doing next thread again?

Yes.

I've never played a gen 4 game but I hear lots of good things about Platinum. Why does it have to be $90 on Amazon
BibleThump.png

EDIT: Would you guys recommend a used copy? I hear many DS games are pirated copies so..

Woah...when it comes to Gen 4 games, pay no more than $40 for Platinum and $20 for DP (or just ignore these two altogether, they have so many issues its embarassing...)
I recommend getting it used. Or wait for TPP to start it and make your decision based off our run?

Jolteon will be next to impossible to get because iirc, the thunderstone is in solaceon ruins

sigh

Btw, Giratina's theme IS amazing

Gen 4 has the two best Pokemon games.

So the streamer has started the DS emulator up with Peggle. He's now added the option to input coordinates so that we can use the touch screen, as well as the X and Y buttons.
The streaming display doesn't seem optimized yet though, as there's a lot of wasted black space on the screen.
Here's a screencap of the setup:

Personally I think he should try to display the two screens horizontally instead of vertically, which is what a lot of LPers tend to do. Touch screen use is huge though! As soon as we figure out the coordinates for running from battle we will be able to easily run from fights in long dungeons, which has usually been an issue for us. And we get to do a lot of the silly side things in the game like the underground and poffin making! However, this also gives trolls a lot of power, but then again so have most other helpful additions.

I'm happy that to keep up with the tradition I missed for the fourth consecutive time the team's victory. I ain't even sad anymore. ;_;

He's gonna stream a NDS Pokémon ROM in front of 2.000 guys. The stream is gonna get shut down for real this time.

I would say he's still good, because the gen 4 games stopped being officially sold

Gen 5 would get him into trouble, as I think Nintendo still gets profits from them

EDIT: Playing NSMB, lol

If you want to play randomised fire red yourself Instructions are here.

Also teams IVs:
Slaking just shows how good base stats can make all the difference.

When did the "Articuno" battle happen (it was a Mew*...it self destructed, almost as bad as the perish song Latios).

*-Meaning Latios is Mewthree (as Zapdos was Mewtwo).

I still don't understand what IVs and EVs are. I know they contribute to your total stats, but I don't really get how they work.

They're simple. At level 100 each IV is 1 point (max 31) while EVs are 1 point for every whole 4 (does not round).

Slaking has a base stat* total of 670 (the best of any non-legendary; Truant usually balances this) which means the IVs contribute less (as a %) to its overall stats. I sometimes feel they are more important in your bad stats as a result.

*-These are stats at level 50 before anything else is applied...except HP that works slightly differently. It should be noted that officially the games refer to EVs as Base stats which can cause confusion.

Gen 1 and 2 use DV (Determinant Values aka "genes") which is the same principle of at level 50 each DV is 1 point (max 15) and its EV equivalent is stat experience (every Pokemon you slay its base stats are added to this pool, it maxes out at 65535 where at level 100 about 255 points is one point) but unlike EVs there is no overall pool (you can get the additional max 63 points in every stat...if you want to slay like 600+ Mews or 1000+ Ditto which is a time sink).

IVs are values inherent to the pokemon and can't be changed. Have to breed for better ones. 1 IV=+1 extra point to the pokemon's maximum stat, for a maximum of 31 extra points at level 100. i.e. Attack IV of 29=29 extra points to the stat.

Evs are given when a pokemon defeats another pokemon. The amount given varies with the pokemon, and EVs can be given to multiple stats. 4 EVs=+1 stat point at level 100.

You can get up to 252 EVs per stat. (So a stat can be increased by as much as 64 points) The EV cap is 510 points per pokemon.

The system fluctuates a bit with every generation, but once you get the hang of it it's pretty easy to work with, especially considering how X/Y allows you to keep track of EVs.

Generations 1 and 2 use a more convoluted system that I don't remember the full details of.

Thanks, that makes a little bit more sense. At least I don't have to worry about IVs. I didn't see anything in Pokemon Y about EVs though.

Super training. Just have a reset bag and save before use. Use it and you'll see what your EVs were (the triangles scale in an odd way). You can then reload the save to keep the reset bag

As for gaining EVs. Battling hordes while using power items (Battle Maison) is much faster way to bulid them up then playing super training.

No problem.

The super training menu has a bar on the side that shows how many EVs you've accumulated on the pokemon, as well as a chart to show how they're distributed (the yellow areas on the chart.)

Makes it so that you don't have to count how many pokemon you need to KO before you're done with a stat, and super training itself makes it much easier to keep track of EVs when you're developing specialized stat spreads, since specific minigames always give the same amount of points (which I think are shown before they start). Super training is much slower than traditional EV grinding though.

So if the bar on the far right is all the way up, it has max EV already?

Yes. But you can reset it with a reset bag of some special berries.

I care about EV training.
IVs are just too complicated so most times I just forget about it.

After I beat the game I make 2 official teams and those 12 pokemon I try to go for the best IVs possible.

Been so busy with classes that I couldn't dedicate enough time to the stream, I've missed it all ;-;

I know the feeling. I actually just finished my final paper for this semester, so yay for that. The intermission is at a pretty good time for me too, since I have finals on Thursday and Friday.

And don't worry, you didn't miss too much. Fire Red was kind of meh, Platinum will probably be better.
Platinum please be good, I don't want the record of the worst two games on my thread creating hands! D:

After watching TPP randomized fire red, I gotta admit, I found emerald to be my favorite run.

*High Five*

Red will probably always be my favorite run, but I loved Emerald so much. That final Wallace battle definitely ranks up as one of the greatest moments in all of TPP, I could almost cry when we finally won. I've also never gone from completely apathetic to in complete love with a pokemon so quickly before, but now I REALLY want to use an Azumarill. Hurry up with the damn gen 3 remakes Gamefreak, I need my own M4!

I have an azumarill in Pokemon Y. He's really boring to play as, though, even with huge power.

Distortion World will be funny.

I'm fucking dying, this betting is hilarious. A hoppip just nearly swept an entire team which had Dome, M4, and a Mareep. The Mareep proceeded to faint shortly after our hoppip, and the heathens betting on dome said goodbye to a collective $38k.

So when's the new thread coming? I know we still have a 11hrs to go tho.

My guess is that nobody remembers.

Your pessimism hurts me. I'll have your new thread ready an hour before Platinum starts just as last time.

If you guys want to suggest titles go ahead. Perhaps something gambling or difficulty related (because Platinum will be tougher than Emerald)?

Also if anyone has found full-team art of the final Fire Red team that'd help, I haven't really seen much of any like for the other generations.
