I'm one of the weird guys who prefers English voices so I am waiting lol.

I think BassForever is saying that if you don't really ever watch dubs because you prefer Japanese voices, commenting on particular voice actors or performances is a little open to question because of more unfamiliarity with that actor or their past performances.

Underlined is the assumption being made of course, and not necessarily true.

I'm probably late on saying this, but the Japanese voices are just too darn good in this one. I've watched English- and Japanese-voiced anime, and the range of emotion that the seiyuu have to show here is crazy. From the very first episode.

So, I'm a little new to anime purchasing, just got into anime not that long ago, so all of the series I've bought so far have been out for years. First time buying a new show.

So I've got Funi's Blu-Ray Part 1 preordered. But if they're releasing the show in two parts, does that mean a superior collection is gonna come out later, making me feel like I'd rather have that later. As much as I am hyped for the dub and wanna watch it like, now, I don't wanna feel like I'm getting a incomplete set. I don't mind buying in two parts if that's just how they wanna do it, but I wanna feel bad if a better set comes along later. :(

Does Funi tend to do this?

It's pretty safe bet. Funimation doesn't release compilations for all of their shows, but I could definitely see them wanting to capitalize on the popularity of Attack on Titan.

That being said, I'd imagine that a complete collection wouldn't be released for quite some time (like, possibly over a year from now).

Thanks. Yeah, it's so popular I would bet you're right. I can't wait a year, though so I guess I'm sticking with my purchase. :)

Can't say I'm remotely surprised, I always thought this was a good idea. It'll keep the studio busy so they don't need to rush S2 and have it full of fillers. The material is also a good length for 2 movies, though they'll need to compress it a bit (Eps 10-13 badly need some compressing). Looking forward to some movie-quality 3dmg animation.

Only reason this surprises me is that they've still got the live-action one coming out.

Seems like a smart move. If the speculation about season 2 hitting in 2015 is accurate, they'll need some way to keep the show on peoples' minds for the next year. Hopefully the movies can address some of the first season's issues. I'm on board if they improve the pacing and boost the quality of the art and animation.

I don't think it was necessary. Word of mouth alone would've been enough to bring people back. The show is that popular now.

I had wondered what all the craze was about when I saw this mentioned on here and now I understand why. Just finished watching the entire thing in a day, good thing I noticed it on Netflix by chance helping my Dad find a movie a few days ago!

So based on what I've seen a few people mention in prior posts, there will be a second season (or whatever they call it with anime)?
It feels like they left out major plot points like the whole basement/key thing

Really enjoyed the music, going to have to grab the OSTs. Oh and intro #1 all the way!

Today is best character in Titans birthday, best Jean Kirstein day!

I don't expect another season until AT LEAST 2016. With Kobayashi working on ToQger until early 2015, they're not gonna have her not write a second season. It just sucks its going to take so long.

Welp I gone and done it, I just started watching this show marathon'd it and now I am hooked.

I am a 32 year old Asian male, I grew up watching all anime, but stopped around 10 years ago and have since found it hard to get back into Anime. After seeing "Attack on Titan" pop up a few times throughout my days last week, whether a comment on reddit, this thread of Gaf, I decided to google it and see what it was and it sounded interesting.

I decided after my decade long hiatus of Anime to give this show a shot and I got hooked immediately. Having just finished season 1, I regret consuming it so fast because now all I want is more episodes and I may not be able to resist getting spoiled and reading the manga.

My complaints are few aside from the usual too much crying, whining, and self introspection moments that go on way too long in the middle of a fucking Titan battle, but overall the animation, premise, and characters have me hooked.

So my question to you GAF is give me some other Anime suggestions to fill my void in the meantime while we wait the long wait for season 2. What is similar to Attack on Titan or other popular Anime that I could get hooked on?

Also Captain Levi is awesome. And what happened to Reiner Braun and Bertholt Fubar? Don't recall seeing either for a while now, last I recall of Reiner was when he was with Armin and Jean battling the female Titan.

Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood is very good and in a similar vein to AoT.
Hunter x Hunter is also good, but it's also very unusual, since it's deconstructing/riffing on various Shonen tropes and genres. It takes a while to warm up and hook you.

What did you like before you stopped?

The director of Attack on Titan found his fame with Death Note, so that might be worth a watch. As has been said, Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood is also good. Gurren Lagann too maybe. The 2012 JoJo's Bizarre Adventure (and its sequel that just started) is also solid.

You could also ask for recommendations in the seasonal anime thread since it's not just about whatever is airing at the time. Maybe check out the Anime of the year threads of 2013, 2012 and 2011 as well. Just try to keep an open mind since not everything reflects their art style.

Fate/Zero is the only answer.

If you want something similar in tone, the original Fullmetal Alchemist is great.

I just saw that this is on Netflix (in Japanese with English subtitles!). Awesome! I've been wanting to watch it easily on my new TV setup since I recently finished Cowboy Bebop.

Just watched the second OVA (not sure if I'm allowed to post it here, I won't - but
*cough* there is a translation out now that you can easily find on *cough*reddit or *cough*tumblr
)

Absolutely hilarious. I loved it. It's like an animated fanfiction. I did not expect this to be a comedy episode, but I was pleasantly surprised. And in addition to the funny parts we also got some character developement for Jean which was great.

I'm surprised this adaptation is as popular as it is despite the apparently horrendous pacing issue (I haven't watched it).

I stopped watching anime a long time ago too, Samurai Champloo being the last anime i saw. Ended up seeing the first chapter of AoT after several coworkers simply kept recommending it, and Jesus, what a blast it was. I ended up seeing all chapters in marathon, then continued with the manga since I couldn't wait for season 2 next year, and read all 56 chapters. It's nice to finally see a good anime again.

Caught the first two OADs so far. So good.

Damn it hurts seeing some of these characters again before things went south.

Also,
Mikasa abs

Just watched the 2nd OVA and as always, Potato Girl is best girl.

Anyway it was a nice counter to the first OVA which was weird and terrifying.

You would probably dig FullMetal Alchemist Brotherhood. I haven't watched anime since the 90s and decided to watch that on Netflix recently. Got hooked and wanted something just as good and Attack on Titan did the trick.

So, I've finally caught up to 25. After stopping at 9, when ever I see images, I got the impression things already went sideways in regards of the preggession starting with that image of Eren at trail, thought he already became a wanted man and when the images of the Female Titan came around, it seems like the series has already became a web of plots but looks like it's really on one track. ANd yeah, the show is really good at twisting expectations when you least expect it. I don't think I'm going to read the manga or, at least, anytime soon. Maybe I will one day but I won't be in any rush of making it to the lateast chapter. After all the talks of how long this franchise will last, Bones Eater comes to mind and I hope WIT simply take their time as it seems like we have all these merchandise, spin-offs, movie, new and regurgitated content to keep the iron hot. My god, I still believe Platinum Games are the only ones that can do a console version justice.

And yes, last year, I did see someone wear a Scout Regiment cape when I was in the mall. I actually wanted to make a comment but then realized I haven't watched all of the season but now I have, I can now scour all the fan made art and vidoes I want! =D

Though, I also noticed a lot just ignored the rules here and kept posting manga spoilers so whenever the new season comes out, I might just simply not come back until that season is over.

I'm going to anticipate what ToonamiGAF's reactions are going to be when episode 5 rolls around.|

I guess I'll be rewatching S1 on Cartoon w/ the dub. Can't wait, I've been delving into the Manga, couldn't help myself. Like how true the anime is to the source.

Also I just started FMAB and I'll admit it's been a little hard for me to get into but I'll keep with it considering how many of you guys here recommended it.
