I can totally see a sequel with a story revolving around
their relationship. What did they do after that what happened to them? There are several ways to continue their story.

They have two character whom the players care very much about so pretty much anything they come up with could be interesting to those who like the first game.

However giving a weigh (like the world's fate is upon them to decide) to the story would be a different problem as they kind of can't pull the same thing twice.

It would be insane if Uncharted 4 comes out in mid 2015, and The Last of Us 2 makes it for mid or fall 2015. A E3 teaser would not be out of the question if it releases in mid or fall 2016.

Whose ass did you pull this number from? A sequel to a popular game does not need 5 years. Fuck, It works against the narrative to have to refresh the vast majority who would not have thought about the original since playing it. They should be able to churn these games out in 2 years given adequate resources and the PS4 remaster will help them along nicely.

also I agree with others, you would be hard pressed to make a decent story after that ending. well, surviving sure but a grand scale story... not so much without re-tracing TLOU steps.

Yup my interest in tlou 2 is dependent on two things.

1. Will the story stay awesome or devolve into save the world bullshit?

2. Will the gameplay make it more fun for me to play or will I just play 5ish ehh hours and be better off watching the rest on YouTube again.

I kind of like TLOU as a standalone title. They could do one in that world, but it shouldn't involve Ellie or Joel or that story arc (outside of indirect references to it)
