Official Sunset Overdrive Trailer

This looks incredible but the line about "this is the game Insomniac's been waiting to make for over 20 years" seems like a huge slap in the face to all their fans on Sony consoles. I mean, I understood when they went multi-platform because they wanted their games to reach more people, but releasing the "game they've been waiting to make all these years" exclusive and during the launch of a console race when install bases are smallest?

What's the thinking Insomniac?

Well, a beginning of a new generation is the perfect time to switch platforms. Because it's the time it's the easiest to get your fans to switch.

It would be an odd choice if they released this game on 360 after many years building up their user base on Ps3. But now if a person really wants to play their new game he/she will most likely considered that when choosing a Ps4 or a Xbone.

Maybe I didn't hear it right but it came across to me more as the game they've been building up to - i.e. it takes everything they've done and brings it together. Plus they're clearly working with MS to make a big push for the title so they're clearly going to be pushing the view that the XB1 is getting their finest game yet.

Looks like fun but certainly not enough to swing me to buy a console just for this. Loved the respawn approach even though gameplay wise it looked like a bit of everything I've played of their's so far : R&C traversal and crazy weapons against fairly dumb but varied foes, Resistance Grims given a psychedelic makeover with a dash of their coop gameplay from R2 and Fuse. Thinking about it to be fair it is clearly a cumulation of various stuff they've delivered before blended together so they're not really kidding with the comment.

Still, finally a game on XB1 that I do find interesting that's only on the XB1.

A company being excited for their new game is a huge slap in the face to all the fans that liked their old games.
I think the thinking is make the game you're absolutely best at making, and draw on all of your skill, and history, and talent (who came here because of your history) to do it.

The platform/publisher wasn't really relevant in making the best game we could and drawing on our past. More and more in this industry i think you have to do that every time out.

I get it, guys. It's just a shame. You guys are undoubtedly top notch, and you're gonna be missed on the PS camp.

I'll find a way to play this either way. :D

So for how long this has been in developement?
Seems all the systems are well thought and also pretty solid from the technical side.
So 2011?

This seems true. Game looks like it's been in the planning for years in some respects, even if full scale development may not have actually begun until the xbox one.

Even on the enemies front. They apparently have tons of enemies, not just the same stuff over and over, and based on what we've seen from the ones they may all have their own personal fighting style or abilities. For example, some of the designs were like battle mechs from Pezzco, and others had a look that implied they might be just as agile and skilled at grinding, wallrunning or platforming as you are.

Game looks great. Love the weapons. Since you guys own the franchise, is there a chance part 2 could be on ps4? Assuming the game is a success that is. Or do you guys have a multi game deal with MS?

No ones going to tell you the details of a deal like that. Its confidential.

Why is it slap in the face to Sony fans? You don't get a lifetime ban from playing the game, or anything. My memories of Insomniac is they're spent years being told they're shit, hardly anybody bought the brilliant Resistance 3, so where were the loyal fans then?

Sometimes developers just nail it, and why does it matter where, or when that happens? I'm happy for these guys, and glad they're getting some kudos at last and I hope they get some big sales from this.

It does look quite impressive. Like a stylised mix between inFamous: Second Son and Dead Rising. Moreso the latter.

Though hearing Microsoft talk about their variety of software and then seeing them fund what could be reduced to two Dead Rising games in the space of a year is a little amusing to me.

This really fills a void, and the timing just seems so right. This new trailer is the antithetical moment to the Sucker Punch guy at the Infamous:SS reveal, which has kind of been representative of the tone of gaming lately.

and there's lots of variation in enemy types, so there are other ones that are problems like the blowers shooting puss at you, and the herker throwing OD at you and charging.
They shoot kittens? Because that would be pretty cool :)

What's edgy about it?

I cringed a bit when the narrator read "Mature Third Person Shooter" at the beginning of the trailer. Not edgy though, completely agree on that. Nothing edgy about the game/trailer, at all. I actually like the way it looks and the overall direction.

Yeah, very douche bag like of them to say that... now i hope Sony ends their relationship with them and give Ratchet to someone else who got the chops.

Game looks OK, but i ain't buying an XBO ever.

And honestly i don't see this selling good, it's not dudebro enough. The box art alone (cool as it is) will keep mainstream buyers away.

I have 18 of Insomniac games. Got them the day they released and got the collector editions where available. Hell I will be first in line for the Ratchet movie.

This is where we part ways I am afraid. I don't have the time, the money or the space to have 3 current gen console and I made the decision to not get the Xbox.

I wish them luck on the IP and I will be waiting for the next Ratchet game.

Since they own the IP I hope they can self publish the title next year on PS4 or have a sequel.

Whoawesome, that was bursting with color and character!

Those wacky gun combinations and powers made it apparent that there's a ton of freedom of movement. The traversal looks really neat- like a hybrid of inFamous and Aggressive Inline. I hope it is supremely irreverent under all that color- it looks like a lot of fun! And the "next-gen respawns" were glorious.

I hope it works out for Insomniac. The game looks like a good time.

This looks like the first current gen console game I want to play, good job Insomniac.

Hopefully the mission structure is more interesting than Dead Rising though.

I remember this being the only game at MS conference that piqued my interest but I was really skeptical because of Insomniac's last few games and because they'd only shown off a CG trailer. I'm glad to see that it looks as good as the trailer, and it seems like it's taking a lot of fun game play mechanics from existing games and mixing it up.

I really love the style and how colorful it is but I'm not too crazy about the way the actual characters are stylized. I can't really pinpoint why that is but I'll withhold judgement on that until next week when we get more videos.

A price drop on the Xbox One (preferably without kinect) plus a nice E3 showing, and I think I will definitely jump in for this and Forza for my SO. I have no idea how I'm going to get a Wii U, PS4, and Xbox One this year but I'm going to try!

Stop overacting seriously.

Sure its disappointing but they are in fact 3rd party and can what they please with their games.they are not going to stop working with other publishers.

Looks amazing. Definitely getting this game whenever I'm getting the Xbox One.

And sure, Infamous has the better iq, but Sunset looks way more fun.

All of the below games looked awesome in previews. But let's see how many actually lived up to their hype:

Resistance: Fall of Man (Not bad for a launch game)
Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction (Nice visuals, far too short)
Ratchet & Clank Future: Quest for Booty (Kiss my fucking ass)
Resistance 2 (One of the worst FPS of gen 7)
Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time (Almost)
Resistance 3 (Welcome to the bargain bins)
Ratchet & Clank: All 4 One (Eat a dick)
Ratchet & Clank: Full Frontal Assault (Eat a smaller dick)
Fuse (WTF?)
Ratchet & Clank: Into the Nexus (There was a game called Ratchet & Clank: Into the Nexus?)

As a previous PS3 owner, I am just giving Xbox One owners a word of caution. Do not get too hyped. Wait until reviews.

So you call yourself a fan, but then try the impossible to bash everything they've done.
Ok.

Maybe in single player campaign, but it's also built to be multiplayer.

Oh, OK. I didn't realize there's multiplayer too. I still think (based on limited gameplay), that faster traversal would be more desirable. It just looked really slow. Aiming shouldn't be too difficult with faster movement. Or, they could slow time when aiming in single player and use a different tactic in multiplayer. We'll see though; maybe I'll come around to the speed they've used.

It's crazy that MS are showing this before E3.
I'm assuming they have loads more up their sleeve for the press conference...

Hint, if an independent company could afford the financial risk to self-publish expensive AAA games, then they would most likely fund and publish their own games in the first place. (or just sign a distribution agreement).

Looks like the Giantbomb crew won't have any footage until next week, but Brad got to check it out last week and seems to like it.

I too played Sunset Overdrive last week! Seems like my kinda game. Dead Rising + Tony Hawk is the first comparison that comes to mind.

How would you reliably aim at enemies while grinding if it were any faster?

I'm sure you could do it with practice, or slow down when you hold the aim button (kind of like bullet time) rather than always be slow.

It's kind of hard to answer on the spot as it's a game design question with a ton of solutions.

He's overreacting, but I do agree that Sony should give Ratchet another dev. Insomniac has treated the IP like crap lately. If they want to move on, they should move on completely and stop relying on the Ratchet clutch
