Well opening it he would not interrupt the flow and it would be sort of cool to have the main guy hand it off the to the only other main guy:) He could talk about internal support and then finish with something like, "I think you will see that with the actual presentation and here is Phil to announce CRACKDOWN 2! Ha.

True, but he doesn't have to open it to be at the very beginning. They could still have a few introductory things or whatever before him. I mean, obviously they're going to have the welcome before him if he shows up (and before that probably some clip from some game, like they've done the past few years with Call of Duty or MGS last year), but there could obviously be a little thing before he shows up. Like there could be a quick little "we are committed to games!" speech, and then have nadella come out and talk for a second, and then go back, and then "let's move right on to the games, then, shall we?"

Yes Satya would be great to give a brief introduction. Then Spencer should feature the most with his right hand man Klobb. Harrison to cover the Indie stuff.

You know I thought about that for a bit but for some reason it felt more true to have the boss hand it to the other boss. Like opening big with the one major thing people all seem to wonder about and is in the news. I mean it could go either way for sure. Having him there in some measure is the best so we agree on that. For some reason I just see him really driving home the thing that so many people question right now and that is the systems internal stance then have Phil cover how that internal stance is going to be shown.

the positive turnaround around here is amazing!

anyone remember what happened last year? Tv tv tv...so much negativity surrounding xbox and its specs compared to ps4.

last year was brutal

Yeah, I think he'd be really important to cement that "We, as a company at Microsoft are committed to games."

Last year had a shit ton of cool games though. People tend to forget that because they had a bunch of presenters presenting a bad model and that is all people remember.
Rightfully so by the way.

I just wanted to say that this thread has really frickin' hyped me over the past couple of pages!

It will be such a great day with all the major press conferences in a row like that :)

Last year E3 was TV TV TV?

Wasn't the actual E3 press conference, pretty much, all about games, eh?

Seeing as the comment is about the pre-E3 thread, I'm pretty sure he means before the conference? Makes sense, no?

He didn't say E3 was TVTVTV, guys. He said last year. I was assuming he meant this time last year. People were hyped for what they would show at E3, but the whole thing was surrounded by all the negativity.

It really is great, I agree.

Having sex with the hottest woman in the world can get ruined if her entire body is covered in feces. And that is pretty much what many people feel happened last year.

CLARIFICATION: Oh if that post was to mean pre3 and after, which that does make a bit more sense. Ya. Righto indeed.

I don't know. I think I would force my brain to cut off my sense of smell and keep my eyes closed.

Well, I've seen people claim the E3 presser itself was TV TV TV, so I assumed he was referring to the presser.

I don't know, she'd still be the hottest woman in the world. I could look past the faeces and soldier on.

Beginning would be pretty great though. They could still open the show with a trailer for say, H2A then Nadella walks out. Says a short little speech and the show goes on. I remember the E3 where Gates came on and it was awesome to see something like that. I think Bill Gates actually closed the show in 2006 and revealed the epic Halo 3 trailer.

I will say I was pretty pissed last year. Had a hard time enjoying the conference.

It was like, "Microsoft, I hate you so much. Why do you have to have all the games I like? Now I'll never get to play them because my internet is utter crap."

Beginning would be pretty great though. They could still open the show with a trailer for say, H2A then Nadella walks out. Says a short little speech and the show goes on. I remember the E3 where Gates came on and it was awesome to see something like that.

Well, I'm actually not disagreeing by much. I'm saying have Phil come on and be the real spokes person, and then have Nadella come in and make a little personal commitment speech to Xbox (with Phil standing right there). Then he leaves and Phil does a little "let's dive in."

So still at the beginning, just not quite immediately. I just think it would be weird to have him come on and then leave. As in, have Phil "host" the show. The host is always the first person on stage/screen/whatever-the-heck-you-call-the-radio-equivalent.

Wait, what?

Why would Nadella show up at the press conference?

Why would the CEO of Microsoft travel to LA to speak for 30 seconds on videogames?

Obviously he isn't going to. It doesn't matter to MS and they are selling it anyway and it has never happened in the past either.

Huh?

It actually has happened, but the division is super solid now and doesn't require the CEO to waste a whole day for a minute-long appearance, I don't think.

Really hoping its Spencer with game producers and creators. Save the suits for press releases.

To instill confidence in fans that the Xbox brand isn't going anywhere (because for some reason there's still a lot of FUD). I'd argue he could easily do that by providing a quote for a press release, or just Skype in or something with a short message to Xbox fans.

Bill Gates made appearances in the past. I think it would be a great way to support the brand.

I think it's a giant waste of his time. The brand doesn't need this kind of thing anymore.

Really hoping its Spencer with game producers and creators. Save the suits for press releases.

Exactly. There's no need for an in-person appearance.

Anyways, we'll know very soon :)

Nothing would really have the impact of an E3 though. I mean, look at how much stock Phil is putting into this. He talks about it all the friggin time.

How is that rightfully so? It was the reveal people were still complaining about E3, in part because they did not show games, yet they said games would be for E3, so it was a lose lose.

Skype in while in his living room, behind him is a large half obfuscated Crackdown 2 poster, and a Crimson Skies model that his kid is playing with.

Then they both drink a Mountain Dew and wave goodbye.

Phil is right now working out in the gym, running and shit so that he can one-hand pushup a massive model of Joanna Dark onto the stage like Jack Palance at the Academy Awards. Just pulling it out there. It would be best if it had light up eyes but Phil if you are reading this I am cool if you guys don't have the time.

I was actually thinking about a quick skype call type thing, of just a video.

Maybe have a video like they did at the reveal. You know, where they showed Spielberg.

Hahaha is more like having sex with the hottest girl in the world, while her father sits in the room with a loaded shotgun. Sure you love what's happening in the moment but your mind was always "yeah but the DMR stuff sucks" it was the elephant in the room the entire time, after the conference was over, nobody interview them about the games, it was all above the the decisions.

I just want to see something else from Rare. Even it's just an HD, digital only "remake" of some of their classic IP. Conker's Bad Fur Day? Jet Force Gemini? Heck, even update and port over the Banjo games and Perfect Dark from 360. There are so many fans if Rare's old IP that a nice Rare collection of games would be quite successful.

HD "remakes" aside, a f2p Viva Pinata, a new Battletoads, or platforming based Banjo would all be awesome. Maybe even a new IP!

So how do guys think MS will try to end the show? I can see it being Phil announcing a price cut to $399 and then having a one more thing reveal with a big exclusive like Fallout 4 or something. Would be crazy and definitely turn some heads.

Probably a Halo 5 reveal trailer.

Yeah... The next mainline VP shouldn't be f2p. They can make Viva F2Pinata for Windows 8 instead.

Oh man. Goldeneye HD could be a proper mini-megaton for Microsoft if they manage to sort out the licensing rights.

...and I would absolutely triple-dip for Banjo-Kazooie and Perfect Dark if they ported them to Xbox One.

The last thing Phil talks about is a price cut and Gold restructure (no more netflix and co) behind paywall and the last thing we see is a really good Halo 5 trailer or a Gears teaser.

I disagree, I think that very few people still care about the possibility of Goldeneye HD. We got Perfect Dark HD, and nothing happened; we got a Goldeneye remake of sorts, twice, and the Earth didn't shatter. Goldeneye should remain just a nice memory.

Karak

I agree that a pricecut and maybe a restructure. However the very end needs a trailer as that is what the entire thing is about. Close it with something no one has heard about. Gears is great and so is Halo. But god damn if I wouldn't crap if they actually surprised me at the very end. A true surprise.

Preferably with something we can play this year. Closing with a 2015 game would be lame as hell. Want to get people hyped? show us a game then tell us we'll get our hands on it by Christmas this year.

I hope it's Halo 5 and not a Gears teaser.

I have no interest in seeing a completely fabricated CG trailer with little to no relation with the actual game. We know the game has been in development for only a couple of months. A trailer is useless at this point.

I think a short appearence by Nadella would be cool. I don't think all the "FUD" is completely without merit and I think it would be good to show that the new CEO who doesn't come from the gaming side (iirc he's from the enterprise side) that he supports the division and is committed to it.

They really have a lot of ground to make up and they have to not just have games at the conference (which they did bring last year) but a major shift in attitude and messaging. They can't try to PR their way out of stuff because people know when they are being BSed. Everyone knows they have the technically weaker console for a higher price and there's a disparity between multiplats but I don't know how they should overcome these things. I just know they can't try to spin it like they did last year. It would do the most good to acknowledge the L and announce specific steps that are being taken to address the concerns from the past year. Would that fly from a business perspective? I have no idea but for a consumer it would go a long way I think.

Absolutely agree. In fact I hope MS goes for impact with actual gameplay trailers and avoids CG trailers all together waste of our time.

I think one really good thing they could do, is an immediate and surprising start to GWG on X1. I know companies sometimes do the old ".....and it is available, right now!" so that would be a nice one.

I would also like a trailer for Gears of War, not so much a gameplay or story one, but more one that sets the scene, like its original trailer. Maybe even testimonials about events that we may play through, or things that happened during J-3.

I like trailers that set the scene.
