Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 7: How Can My Smash Brother Be This Cut

samus should go bird of prey then

Idk if this has been mentoined before
I'm sure it has
but as someone who doesnt play metroid i still think ridley would be an awesome character to have simply to have someone whos the complete opposite of little mac(big, bad on the ground but dominates the air). I think it would be pretty cool

I've always been of the mind that shrinking Ridley to the point where he would fit in smash would make him very awkward compared to samus and by extension everyone else.

I realize this is not a unique opinion. I also don't expect to change anyone else's opinion about the matter.

I'm not saying I wouldn't enjoy the character. I just feel like I wouldn't really be playing as Ridley.

So, when you guys are choosing a character to get good with, do you worry more about play-style, or whether or not you like the character and the games they come from?

A mixture. I "main" (air quotes so large that you can see them from the moon) Ness and Lucario mostly because of my love for the games that they come from, but I also gravitate towards the Ice Climbers and King Dedede simply because I really fucking love to smack people in the face with oversized hammers.

There are some characters that I definitely wish I could use, like Donkey Kong, Zelda, and R.O.B., but because they just don't mesh with me I can't pick them anywhere near as often as I'd like to.

Play style. I don't care how much I like a character -- if they're no fun to play as for you, why play them? Though if I absolutely hate a character it can take a while to play as them. Gotta warm up to 'em first.

If I don't like a character I probably won't get good with them, but liking a character doesn't earn them any preference beyond that.

I main Mario cause he's my favorite videogame character as is Mega Man. I also really like Bowser, Pit, Luigi and Greninja.
A fellow Mario main! I feel like there aren't too many of us out there (at least not amongst the players I know). I main him for similar reasons, but throw in some Diddy, Lucas, and Yoshi to mix things up.

Can't wait to see how this is going to work, I have so many questions.

Let's say there's a figure of each character and it holds that character's custom move set and some other information about the player. This would mean:
- Nintendo would have to make a figure for each character in Smash
- Future NFC capable games would have to be in a weird position and either include every smash character in their games, or say only some/none of the smash figures work with their game making the cross compatible deal null and void,
- Forgetting about the cross-game stuff for a moment - would Nintendo really produce figures of all the playable characters in smash? Maybe this just isn't as tough as I think it is....I really do want a Little Mac figure though...

Situation 2: Figures are made to essentially sell DLC - we're talking new characters and costumes
- Figures would be being made of less popular characters or less popular versions of characters. Example: You can't buy Mario, but you can buy Dr. Mario.
- Cross game thing again doesn't seem to fit here.

I do hope that if there is just going to be a figure that you have the option of owning for every playable character then they at least make the model in game look special in some way, shape or form. I do LIKE the idea - it just seems too large in scope to imagine. I would LOVE to have a Little Mac buddy that I import into my Smash Bros games.

I can see this happening....

Finals match is over, it was epic and amazing. As soon as the tournament winner is about to receive his prize or trophy. The big Screen behind them shows.

It shows the winner of the "Peoples Challenger Contest" then is transformed/Mii-fied.

Tourney Winner would fight of against the Contest winner who is using the never before seen Mii.

I think that would be cool.

Now back to finding out if Puerto Rico can participate or not X_X

I main Mario too, i feel like he's good at everything, if they had Babymario id main him no matter what.

I'll play my favorite (Little Mac) and then just do random selection until I hit someone I find to be fun.

Interesting.

I don't think I've ever met someone irl that doesn't think Mario is the most boring character ever in both Smash Bros and Mario Kart.

I pick the characters I like, and over time I learn to love their play style. I main Luigi in every game he's in and I always have, and I've already pretty much decided that Villager will be my alt because I love Animal Crossing.

Yeah my biggest worry is how they will choose the characters or will they just go balls to the wall and just make everyone? I'm predicting about 54 characters and even if it were only 45 or 35 that is still a lot of little figures to deal with. Then I think about Pokemon and realize it aint so hard to imagine, especially if they are useful with other titles.

This will be a new form of DLC. Probably a more fun version of it as well depending on who you are.

And I don't think I've ever encountered the "mario is the boring neutral option" stereotype outside the internet. People often have distinct preferences, but they're positive preferences for other characters, not negative ones about mario.

It's kind of like how I'd never have heard of people who prefer battle mode to racing in mario kart without browsing gaf. Social circles wind up sharing preferences.

I generally just hit the random button when I'm playing - I have preferences, but not enough to curtail the variety. Count me in with the Mario fans, though... he's probably at the top of my list. I just can't get enough of that cape.

Mario does kind of come off as boring in some of the circles that I play in. But no one is as boring as Donkey Kong, he just seems so plain compared to the rest of the cast. Still I've loved DK since the first Country title and my love for him has only grown as I grew up.

Something about turtles and Koopas really spoke to me as a kid so playing as Bowser is a dream come true. You could imagine how happy I was to see 9 Koopas in MK8, hahaha.

So yeah I choose characters that I have an emotional attachment to. I tried to do the same with Sonic, Yoshi and Mario but the biggies really stuck with me.

I think he SHOULD look awkward, at least on the ground. Having that authentic lizard sway and a somewhat cumbersome movement on the ground would look really unique.

I used to advocate for a low to the ground flying for the run animation but Charizard's already got that now

It's weird, I do sometimes look at the character in Smash and think about how, when it comes down to it, he really doesn't have that crazy of a move set. It's solid, sure, but nothing too flashy. But in the context of Smash, which is a celebration of everything Nintendo, he represents what's worth celebrating about Nintendo the most to me; he's basically my childhood represented in a single character.

So, I guess in response to my earlier question, even though play-style is important, favoritism wins out in the end because, short of Geno being a character, Mario is always going to be my main.

Hai guys. Busy day for news and the speculation engine is revved to 11 I see.

I can't wait to find out what the Smash NFC figures are all about.

My guess is that it will directly correlate with custom movesets and cross platform compatibility but who really knows?

All I do know is that E 3 can't come soon enough really!

Metaknight and Mewtwo as well.

Looking awkward is subjective and I hate that part of the argument. I mean what about Bowser's skate board slide was not awkward in Brawl and Melee? I mean it looked ridiculous. Not to mention Pikachu standing next to Mewtwo and Lucario like giant always bothered me ever so slightly. Ultimately though, it's really no big deal at all. The fact is we got used to belly slide Bowser, we got used to giant Olimar immediately and we didn't even realize we were used to giant Pikachu, Squirtle and Jigglypuff for so darn long.

People like to bring up Olimar not having anyone in his series to compare to but that is a load of barnacles and everyone knows it. His game is about traversing through our world using our food and man made objects as resources. Olimar picked up ROB's head for goodness sakes in Pikmin 2, he fit in ROB's eye lens. Pikmin even appeared in Mario Golf Toadstool Tour, and they were smaller than Mario's golf ball if you managed to hit them in the flower bed. How's that for direct character comparisons?

the Pikmin manual flatout says Olimar is the size of a United States quarter lol
