These sales don't matter if this game is not enticing people to buy a Wii U, after all this game was billed as the "Wii U savior". So far it looks like no one is buying Wii u for this game.
Junior gonna Junior.

Providing relevant, hand-picked content backlinks is a bad thing now?.
Especially since that audience has been repeatingly assuring everyone that graphics don't really matter.
t.
Yup, interesting to see this was the third 'news' article:
Woohoo nicely done nintendo!
Eh, I guess I just don't see the point in making the claim that it'll "likely never happen" beyond enraging fans for clicks. That sort of manufactured negative press won't help the platform either so why even toss it in?
Junior gonna Junior.
Yep. Even better though I got an ad linking to mariokart8.Nintendo.com and the blurb they choose is "Overflowing with Nintendo Magic." - Polygon
It's like they can't decide what angle they're going for with Mario Kart 8.
The fact that (as an example) NeoGAF has a joke chalkboard about what will save Wii U is enough to demonstrate that there is an interest in the prospects of any of the things on that board. They're just writing about the topics that interest people. Doesn't matter if they think the prospects are good or not - they recognize that people care, so they're commenting.
Ahh now I see the angle you are taking.
Carry on.
I've seen this attitude repeatedly when I say Wind Waker was a bad idea (even though it's in my avatar).
Is it really impossible (or contradictory, or worthy of criticism, even) for someone to both like a thing and be honest about its problems?
Woohoo nicely done nintendo!
Legendary gif thread. Good on Nintendo and on proving Polygon wrong. Still, they don't want the equivalent of Titanfall for the Xbone - they are trying to push hardware to new users, too. If one of their biggest titles plus a free game doesn't work, what will? All that to say, a bit too early to party yet.

What angle? I'm not the one who brought "new graphics" into this. It's never been Nintendo's "angle" either. So I don't see how them releasing a game that is now described as showing "a significant improvement in graphics" would have been a game changer at all. Again, this is in the context of Nintendo titles not existing in a vacuum, and the fact that as far as I can tell it's never been a major point for "Hardcore Nintendo loyalists" (as you called them).
I really fail to see how there's any value to the idea considering context, but maybe that's just me.
This game could look like Diddy Kong Racing and it'd still be awesome. I really don't think graphics are selling this game. I think Mario Kart Wii proved that (since it was hideous IMO).
A.) You are literally pulling that out of your ass, B.) The system had huge percentage growth in the UK (666%, other territories have not yet announced) and C.) Both personal and general internet anecdotal evidence doesn't align with the comment you pulled out of your ass. These sales don't matter if this game is not enticing people to buy a Wii U, after all this game was billed as the "Wii U savior". If you double the Wii U install base, you still need significantly more than half of Wii U owners to buy Mario Kart for it to break out of the worst three.
All this tells me is that if you make a legit great game it will sell. Well done, Nintendo. It was deserved.

edit: Although I do agree, a new MK would have made Nintendo's followers a lot more excited than NSMB. That's likely irrespective of graphics, though. IMO MK should have been released instead of Pikmin.

Japan numbers must be big.
Because the Wii already had a good and varied library before Mario Kart and the motion controls to differentiate itself. MK8 on the other hand is the first WiiU game that looks like Nintendo actually gives a damn. MK8 would have also rightfully bombed, if it was another low effort cash-in like the WiiU platformers and minigame collections most non-dedicated gamers most likely can't even differ from the near identical (still recent) 3DS/Wii predecessors. Everyone can see the generational leap in Mk8 one expected from Nintendo in HD from the very first second though, despite MK7 already looking great.
If EAD Tokyo, Retro and Intelligent Systems had actually gotten proper projects to work with instead of phoning in inferior panic mode map packs, plus scratching all the minigame collections for at least one or two ambitious games early on, Nintendo might have actually been able to go way beyond GCN numbers.
But now it's too late. And Smash seems to continue the trend of not even reaching graphical standards alongside having tired content (especially once the 3DS version's out).
You'd certainly think so given the intense negative reaction to criticism leveled at popular titles. Which is bizarre to me.I've seen this attitude repeatedly when I say Wind Waker was a bad idea (even though it's in my avatar).

Why do you expect them to only publish content that helps the platform? They're posting their analysis.Eh, I guess I just don't see the point in making the claim that it'll "likely never happen" beyond enraging fans for clicks. That sort of manufactured negative press won't help the platform either so why even toss it in?

[Shibata] We're thrilled that more than 1.2 million copies of #MK8 have already been sold worldwide! Happy racing!

It is different in the uk anything from £15 - £40 but those Nintendo games hold value forever!
I mean look at the price of second hand DS mario 64, Wii mario etc they hardly lose money at all
Why is the Zynga CEO in this gif?
Woohoo nicely done nintendo!
