Forza Horizon 2 announced (360, Xbox One), releasing this fall

I'm still trying to understand how they will manage to control the chaos of drivers randomly driving off road. As an experiment in exploration it sounds super fun, but I do wonder how the nominal conventions of a racer will be applied here.

Ironically, does anyone feel as if Forza Horizon is directly competing with the Crew?

Anyone would think that you are trying to derail the thread. Polly want a salted cracker?

Yeah, need to tweak those DOF settings...

In all seriousness though, if people are wondering why the footage is blurred the answer is simple. This was intentionally done as we wanted to debut gameplay footage of Forza Horizon 2 with high quality footage and not cam off-screen footage.

Good decision.

Looking forward to it!

it's ok, we'll take low quality offscreen for now.

Game sounds absolutely amazing!

Also WTF at the blurred footage behind the IGN guys...

If they are not allowed to show they are not allowed to show it.

I wouldn't get my hopes up for the teaser on Friday either. You will see it live in action on Monday.

What with the off road stuff? No, The Crew handles it in such a retarded way (making the cars look all jacked up etc) it's bordering comical/wacky races levels.

my head just exploded reading the lighting tech part

So what we’ve settled on is a physically accurate model of Earth’s atmosphere

The headlights themselves are no longer just standard dynamic lights; they’ve actually got modelled aberration and chromatic aberration from a proper headlight, which is why when drive around the scene and you see the headlights reacting to certain objects you’ll see a slight rainbowing on the edge. That’s all down to that particular part of the system.

Yeah I get that but that doesn't make it any less cruel. :p

Seriously though with all these impressions I can't wait to see the game in action.

I know it shouldn't matter that much but the abilty to drive off the roads, everywhere, that's something i really like. Did that in the Test Drive game on 360. If the map is fleshed out enough there is hours of fun to be had only doing that.

Anyone else think Horizon might actually become bigger than Motorsport in the next few years?

If it heads more towards the PGR feel and style, then I am all for it. FM needs to be around to challenge GT and keep those sim fires burning for fans. Horizon just needs to keep making things damn fun and cool to do.

It should, it is a more mainstream game in terms of mechanics.

Forza Motorsport: Mechanic Simulator

Take on the part of a rookie mechanic, wanting to earn his shot at the big time. Clean rims! Switch tyres! Mop the brow of fevered Drivatars! Coming soon to XBox One.

Love how they talk about the way they want their lighting and only on next gen console will that part of it happen. Everyone was flipping out yesterday about this game being made for both MS consoles.

Lol.. we knew that it would have a big difference between the two. I'm sure that's just the start. This game looks great. Can't wait for it.

i think they can share the same market ....and is a nice idea to split one year for simulator..and one year for the arcade....

sony is trying to do the same..with gt and driveclub

Okay. Reading through everything now I nearly want to say ... All this sounds too good to be true. I mean - everything reads like it is directly out of my best dreams.

I imagine driving this long road. Straight forward. It's dark. Nighttime. I can hear the rain dropping. The street is wet. All I have is me, my car and the lights of my car.

I NEED footage of this game. There is a possibility right now - just by reading through the quotes so far - that this is my game of the generation already. Yes, seriously.

Hang on. If you can drive through barriers and you are driving around the Alps..... Does that mean that we can drive off a cliff? Because that would be awesome.

So looking forward to this :D

By the time this comes out, please let there be custom soundtrack or at least background music streaming without keeping the damn app snapped while playing!

Worth highlighting:

"Liveries and tuning will be a huge part of Horizon 2. You won't be stuck with default paint jobs."
heh, thats good.
looks like I'll get to open shop in horizon 2, in contrast to horizon 1.
this, along with the re-incarnation of kudos, they bring me extra joy than anticipated levels 8)

So you’ll be driving around and you’ll see a McLaren P1 [...] They’ll just be parked to the side of the road and you can go up and get into them
I lost count of how often this happens to me. People really need to stop leaving their unlocked P1's on the side of the road.

This was the best part of the IGN article for me -

With a gorgeous setting, cars that are every bit as impressive as their counterparts in Forza Motorsport 5, and some truly uncanny lightning

I bet this game is going to look 'real' at times.]

This will be the game I buy a xbone for. I've loved forza since the Xbox, but got a little burned out on it with F4.

Horizon was a breath of fresh air as a step away from super sterile sim racing. I also loved Test Drive Unlimited and wanted a big budget version all generation.

I'm still trying to understand how they will manage to control the chaos of drivers randomly driving off road. As an experiment in exploration it sounds super fun, but I do wonder how the nominal conventions of a racer will be applied here.

should be easy, as a Ferrari should drive like shit plowing through fields or whatever off road.

This is by far the most interesting racer yet this generation, by the sound of it. I hope it delivers on all its promises!

I play enough racing games that I need to buy a nice wheel.

that kind of a purchase is a bit too rich for my blood. i played the first Horizon with the wireless speed and had a great time with it. anything that more approximates the sensation of actual driving (and wont cost me an arm and a leg) is good enough for me. no force feedback wasnt a big deal for me.

but who knows. maybe in the fall i'll have saved up enough cash..

Horizon had more style than most games I hope to see the festival in full swing in Tuscany.

Anyway this game sounds like exactly what I wanted from Horizon 2 in literally every way.
