Beatmania IIDX Community Thread: Deluxe Sound Sensation

99% of all IIDX machines in the US running anything later than 8th style are guaranteed to be running some sort of hack, that's nothing unusual (recent versions require a connection to a server and connecting to Konami's simply isn't an option for any location that isn't Round 1).
It was a legit DistorteD machine before we had a custom PC in it.

I tracked it down last night. Apparently it was destroyed and is sitting in a warehouse in pieces right how. :(

If enough remains to put it back together I would seriously throw down money to bring it here right now, especially if it has the EZUSB I/O. Even the card readers alone would be worth a lot.

So I'm going to buy one of those FP7 2012 controllers and get started playing. Do any of you guys have any experience buying from them? The shipping is $80 and that's pretty damn pricey, but I doubt there is any way to lessen that, right? The jump from $330 to $410 is quite large.

Guess I just need to suck it up.

I'm going to email some people today and see if they want to part with it. I have a storage unit doing nothing right now I could store it in and fix it up.

It doesn't have card readers. We did have the emuse readers for Pop'n in storage. I wonder what happened to those.

My opinion is that it's a huge commitment for a new player. Try a regular controller first, and if you get hooked, then consider a more serious investment.

So I just checked out Spada at Arcade UFO, and I've gotta say, it's an interesting mix. I didn't know that Happy Sadcore was a thing.

Where is that?

And does it have more Naganuma beats?

And you wouldn't think Library Beats is a thing, either, but... Bemani!

I ordered an FPS which arrived a few weeks ago. Shipping was hell, took over a month for mine to arrive here in Biloxi, MS. But they answered any questions I had promptly which was awesome.

Controller-wise, it feels incredible! I played on a IIDX GOLD machine during the US location test years ago and that's my only arcade experience but from what I remember, the DJ Dao FPS feels the same. I've played IIDX on and off since about 2006 and after getting the FPS, I noticed a huge jump in my scores. B's turned to AA's and A's turned to AAA's. I'm not saying the controller is magic or anything but it sure as hell is a lot more responsive than the KOC.

By the way, I got the controller with DJ Dao buttons and 50g Omron switches. Feels superb. The construction of the thing is very nice as well, quite sturdy and I no long have to worry about the controller slipping or sliding while playing.

All in all, I'd say go for it if you've been playing the game for a while. If you're just starting out though, a KOC will suit you just fine. This game has a huge learning curve and I've seen it put many people off...myself included when I hit a plateau.

Got up with my friend that has a HD Loader on his PS2 where we play every IIDX console version ever released. It's so much damn fun. Everyone who watches us play is currently addicted to Dazzlin' Darlin from Troopers and Empress Best, but I'm addicted to LOVE IS DREAMINESS and House Nation. We're using modded JP and US KOCs to play, but I'm tempted to look for a DJ Dao or another option.

Two questions:
Does anyone have an up to date, definitive list of AC machines in the states, as the best stuff I can find seems to be pre-2010? Especially in the Denver, So-Cal, or Phoenix areas.

The other question is regarding the timing windows in LR2 compared to IIDX AC's. Which one of the LR2 timing windows (easy/normal/hard) compares to the default in IIDX AC's?

Zenius -i- vanisher's arcade location database is the best one I've seen lately. It tracks all manner of games, though you have to be mindful it's an entirely user-submitted database with no real method of vetting false entries.

Off the top of my head, if the greater LA area is doable for you, Round 1 has SPADA on Konami's eAmusement servers (due to Round 1 being a Japanese chain). Super Arcade should have SPADA as well, but on Programmed World instead.

I actually live in Phoenix, but I'm going to be in So-Cal (SD, Irvine) area several times over the next few months so I was looking for possible excursions. Certainly taking note of this though. Do they sell eAmuse cards at Round 1?

Right.

Find "#RANK 1", replace with "#RANK 3", search in all subdirectories for *.BM* (some files will be .BMS and others will be .BME). Repeat for everything that is Rank 2, 4, or 5.

No idea, I'm all the way over in Maryland and my last visit to Round 1 was before any of the eAmusement games were installed. If you need a card though, I'm trying to get a bunch for an arcade over here (we just installed DDR 2013) and I could probably just mail you one for $10 or so.

DJ Dao controllers are WELL worth the money. The Pop'n controller as well. I just recently got back into playing the arcade games, and since we have SPADA here at Game Underground, I've been going typically on Sundays since it's a flat rate and you have unlimited access to the machine. Been banging out songs.

I'm getting my first paycheck in like a week, and I want to find out of my gameworks has e-amusement rigged up. I might just have you get me one anyway for kicks, but chances are I want one. Thanks for that.

DJ Dao controllers are WELL worth the money. The Pop'n controller as well.
I've wanted one for years but I've always hesitated on pulling the trigger on one. I have a Konami ASC which is pretty awesome and I suppose if I sold that I could pay for part of it. I also have a full set of the PS2 mixes which would probably net me a decent amount... I should maybe consider selling it all and playing on LR2. I have an old PC I could use to run LR2 I think.

God damn. A Real Edition with Sanwa buttons & Omron microswitches is $650 shipped. I wonder if I could get even close to that much for all my bemani stuff.

I recently got a PVM and playing Empress on it is insane. Playing on an EVO monitor with the good, lagless Radio Shack PS2 adapter already felt pretty latency-free, but this is something else altogether. And my scores on Empress are shit because I'm not used to playing exactly with the music.

So I just checked out Spada at Arcade UFO, and I've gotta say, it's an interesting mix. I didn't know that Happy Sadcore was a thing.

I really want to go down there one day, but it's a three hour drive from Dallas. Maybe I'll dedicate a weekend to it in the near future.

Empress is like $200-300 alone, and if you have a real ASC, I've never seen one for less than several hundred in the dollar equivalent of yen. I don't know why you would sell the games though; as DAO's have PS2 adapters built in.

You'd sell the games because once you have LR2, you honestly don't need them anymore.

At least I haven't.

Well of course I do. The main game that I play is some Simon knock off that's part of a fad that Guitar Hero started and killed. I mean, duh.

Mostly because I can't justify the $300 upgrade a brand new RE would cost me, that's why I'd sell the PS2 mixes. That set is one of my favorite gaming collections so it would take some long thinking before I sold them.

Junior, please.
Is it me or is the music for IIDX just getting better and better with each mix?

I've been making a giant list of my favorite songs for easy reference when playing, and it seems to me that Tricoro in particular has a huge number of songs that I want to listen to.

Haven't listened to the Spada soundtrack yet but I'm hoping it's more of the same.

I have so many plays of the SPADA OST between my BMS files of questionable origin and my iPod it's not even funny. The OST discs are amazing, topped of by the amazing 6 minute LUV CAN SAVE YOU [LUV CAN EXTEND YOU MIX], because that song can get even better.

I need that NOW. God that song is divine. Save us all, Naganuma.

Someone send that over to Ultra so the DJs can add it to their sets. Heck, I'd attend a Naganuma gig.

It's here and it's badass. Getting used to the turntable is hard as balls, but man those keys are fun to press. Feels good, yo.

Getting accustomed to the distance to the turntable will take some getting used to, but after a few days of soreness, you'll get right into the groove again. Take it easy, and you'll be fine. My first time playing on a controller with arcade distance, I jammed my ring finger pretty bad.

I'll be at PAX the entire weekend, so I won't get a chance to really get to know her for a couple of days. She'll be waiting for me when I get home though. Ohhhh, yeahhhh.

If you have transportation, you can play IIDX Spada with a 40 minute drive to Game Underground in Framingham. They close earlier this weekend due to most of their staff manning their booth at PAX East, but it should be open until about 9 PM today and Saturday.

So I've recently run into a large sum of money (yay, graduation!) and I'm preparing to buy my DAO. I'm contemplating between the PEE and the FP7, the major difference between which seems to be size and price, the second being mostly a non issue. I'm also sort of stuck on what microswitch to get. My local arcade has 14 Gold, which I presume to be the .98N switches, but I wouldn't mind stepping down to .5's since those are that seems to be in machines now.

Any opinions welcome, and if it matters, I'm 6th dan, so I kind of know what I'm doing.

So I finally got a US KOC for LR2 (I'm cheap and didn't want to spend more than $15 on it; the wait finally paid off two weeks ago), and I'm going through the typical adjustment of getting used to the spacing after only playing AC and on a fight stick (not the best set-up, but at least I got my IIDX fix in!). I'm really happy with it, but something tells me I'll be joining Team Dao soon enough. I'm only playing up to 7s and 8s right now, so I'll be able to hold off for just a bit longer.

The Dao is boss yo. Gonna play some IIDX right now actually and embrace the magic power of the Dao.

EDIT: Just played basically all of Nekomata Master's songs. MY SKILL LEVEL IS INCREASING.

One of the keys on my BMUS is sticking. :( Isn't constant, but it happens at random during songs, which really bites.

Will I need to take it apart? The key goes down and up without incident, but sometimes the notes just don't register.

Danny Dudekisser

I paid good money for this Dynex!
If it's sticking, you'll probably need to take it apart. Every time that's happened to someone, they ended up opening the thing. Shouldn't be a difficult procedure, though.

I'm kinda thinking about getting a Dao.

It'd be nice, but I don't have that kind of disposable income.

I'm getting improvements on 13th, so I guess playing in HD isn't that bad. :D

I tried on a CRT once and didn't see much difference in my scoring.

Danny Dudekisser

I've only ever played on HD displays. Some have been better than others, but I did eventually get to playing 11s on them, so I doubt the lag, at least on my last TV, was an unreasonable impediment.

Wow just played this for the first time today... and this game is hard as hell. Blows the other bemani rhythm games I've played out of the water. I couldn't even pass the level 4 songs! Fun as hell though, definitely gonna play it some more. Thankfully I've already found two locations with machines - much rarer than jubeat though.

A few beginnery questions, since I don't read Japanese (played on SPADA, assuming this is the most recent version?):

What are all the different modes? I played standard and another called "step up" or something similar, but I saw two other modes I could choose as well. I just assumed standard was... well the standard mode.

How do I unlock more songs? I was surprised when I scrolled through the whole selection so quickly - I'm assuming there are hundreds more songs though. Are they all locked at higher difficulty levels?

How do I change song settings? probably won't use this for a while since I'm still terrible, but I've seen players make the note display zone smaller or speed up the fall speed.

What am I supposed to do in the minigame thing at the end? I can only attack something once. I assume this is where I unlock songs though.

and finally, how do I get not terrible >_>? Just tons of practice? Is there some sort of technique I should look up, like how I should position my hands or something?

Thanks in advance.

What country are you in? jubeat is rare as hell in the US - only five machines I know of in the country, three of them in private hands.

SPADA is the newest, yes. I assume you are playing using an eAmusement pass? All unlocking and such is locked to that.

Step-up is sort of an extended tutorial mode designed for guided improvement. You can pick your skill level and it'll try to give you songs tuned to that level and guide you into harder and harder levels.

Standard is pretty much standard play, yes; you get a set number of songs, and you end your set if you fail any of them. Depending on your ranking level (see later) you will be restricted from playing high difficulty songs on your first stage, with the difficulty barrier dropping by the final stage.

Daninintei is a nonstop mode with preset courses designated by rank (7th kyu or so being the bottom rank, going up to 1st kyu, then 1st dan, all the way up to kaiden). Clearing a given course earns you that rank (displayed in your account statics at the beginning and end of a set).

Free gives you a predefined number of songs (usually less than Standard) but there are no difficulty barriers and you are always given the same number of songs regardless of pass or fail.

As for play techniques, my only suggestion is to not ignore use of your thumbs and pinkies. At high levels, being accustomed to a playstyle that doesn't use all your digits leads to roadblocks.

I live in Hong Kong - don't think I even know any arcades without at least two jubeat machines. All the other rhythm games less common - except that washing machine vocaloid one, which is about just as popular.

One more question - how do you arrange the song list by difficulty/artist/genre/etc like you can in jubeat? also what do those lever thingies right below the screen do?
Thanks for the help - gonna start playing a ton more of this instead of jubeat, especially since it's actually possible to play this back in the states when I go back after summer...
