I know that retail Wolf 09 doesn't activate on Steam. I'm not sure if Blur activates or not, but I doubt it does.

Acti didn't start using Steamworks until MW2 in November 2009. Wolf09 predates this and while Blur does not, it missed the bandwagon nonetheless.

Jewel of the Nile is only a couple of hours long, so you could run through it while waiting for proper answers.

Might and Magic CoH took me 40 hours to beat on my very first playthrough. All later playthroughs take me an average of 30 hours. I LOVE this game, it's a close contender for my Game of the past Gen. All those games seem short so if you want to save longer games for last, start with those then jump into CoH. Else I recommend CoH, it's that fun and looks great.

I will say that I normally don't like that genre much. Maybe it's made for people like me and not people like you who do.

It depends -- score junkie bullet hell veterans seem to dislike it because the power ups are randomized making it inconsistent for score runs.

I just happen to think it's a great throwback to games like Gradius/R-Type/Life Force/etc with the side scrolling shmups. I like the different special mechanics you can select (time rewind, reflect, etc.) as well as how the ships have different specials. It looks really nice, it's responsive, and it runs at a silky smooth 60fps.

The only thing I had some issues with was that in places the blue bullet color can sorta blend into the background, but I have that problem more on Vita than I do on PC. I actually own it on all 4 consoles... and I'm not sure I can say that for any other game.

MK or Injustice are looking tempting though. I don't feel like they're going to go substantially cheaper.

This is exactly what I was hoping for. I'm not a score junkie or bullet hell guy, but namedropping Gradius and Life Force will definitely make my ears perk up. I need to give it another try.

Maybe that's the problem. It doesn't run all that well on the highest settings for me, and there's no way my computer shouldn't be able to handle this game. I guess I need to play around with the options more.

Jewel of the Nile is pretty decent DLC if you enjoyed SS3. The enemy placement in these levels are very good compared to a lot of the base game. Play this if you are in an FPS mood. If not, Volgarr the Viking is one of the best things released in 2013. The game will own you until you obtain perfection.

To have both open? I don't think so. You can set the friends list to open under Settings>Interface. Dunno how to have them both open on launch though, sorry.

The "Automatically sign into Friends when I start Steam" (under Friends) option doesn't? That and "Favorite Window" (under Interface) should do what you're looking for, I think?

Interesting, my friend couldn't play metal gear rising from my library, tells him it's not available in his region.

The game isn't available in MY region.

There are 2 of us with metal gear rising and the sharing default to my copy so he can't play it and he can't choose to play his other friend's unless de-authorizing himself :lol

Also, the reason you might think 8-Bit Commander is currently in a bundle, other than the normal key added for past bundles and some showing up in modbot raffles, is because the similarly named 8BitBoy is in the current Indie Gala Monday Bundle.
