PacMan Revealed for Smash. Bros

That's the thing, though, Pac-Man is among those icons that are recognised by people outside of the intended medium he debuted on. Mickey Mouse is the only other mascot that ever reached that ubiquity. He's not saying Mickey Mouse would ever make it in.

Agreed.

I don't see any more third parties really ever making it in, unless Snake does of course.

Are they really going to launch a Smash Bros game without Captain Falcon? I thought they'd announce him sometime this week. Instead we got Game & Watch...

Pac-Man is branded breakfast cereal/tv cartoon show levels of cultural penetration here. The only other franchise that I think comes close to that level of fame is Angry Birds. *shudders*

I knew from the moment I heard Namco was working on this that Pac-Man should be in it.

I was thinking, who is missing from the Sonic, Mega Man, Mario, and Pac-Man pic? What other classic icon should be in Smash? Simon Belmont? I think Simon would be the best choice.

Simon Belmont is the last big one I could think of that's even remotely realistic.

In a dream world, we'd also get:

Ryu
Crono (two iconic SNES reps)

Banjo Kazooie
James Bond (stupid as fuck, but iconic N64 reps damn it)

Leon Kennedy (iconic Gamecube rep)

Bring back Snake and you have my perfect roster, from a third party character perspective.

Captain Falcon's in the game no doubt. Considering that Samurai Goroh from F-Zero as well is an Assist Trophy in the game...

At this point a perfect third party cast in my eyes would have Goemon from Konami and Bomberman from Hudson. Simon Belmont would be great but doesn't fit the retro theme as well.

Well, Pac-Man is an icon for Namco, and an important part of gaming history.

I think it's good that so many important icons and parts of gaming history are in this game. Old arcade games are great. And it's a great opportunity for Namco to show their part in the game and how important they were to video game history.

Solid Snake where are thou.
So theres currebtly 3 third party characters in the game. Lets make it 4 to stay even.
At least none of the sal leaks have said if hes out yet so theres still a chance.

as for Pac-Man hes alright. Not a character im going to use.
Also for him being announced at the round table, seems to be that well see someone after the last match of the invitational.

Really dislike goofy modern pacman but I can understand why he's in, at least he has some old school waka waka attacks.

Would love to see a Belmont and I'd take another Fire Emblem character any time of the day!

I'm not dying to play as Pacman, but that reveal trailer is super classy. The use of retro arcade sprites for his specials are a nice touch, too.

Yep, Pac-Man is part of our shared heritage as gamers. A "Founding Father" of the industry, if you would. His inclusion here is well-deserved.

I think if Konami were asked what character they wanted in, they would pick Snake.

There goes any chance for Klonoa now that Namco has their Rep.
Him and Bomberman were my most wanted third party characters now megaman is in.

Sounds like a nightmare world to be honest. I wouldn't want any of those, the only one I could see making sense would be Banjo Kazooie and even then Nintendo would need to talk with M$ about that. Other than them, all of those would be awful especially Ryu the world's most boring fighter. Also while I love Leon to bits I don't want him anywhere near Smash.

Any chance Mr. Game and Watch might be playable too?

Pretty high chance.
Not officially confirmed, but the tease is enough to warrant thinking he is.

Then again, I could be completely wrong and it could just be more Sakurai trolling.

I thought Ike had the lowest chance of returning from Brawl next to Lucas (not counting Snake) and there he be.

YES! It's like a Mount Rushmore of Gaming. And if you put Pac-Man with Little Mac, DK and Mario, you have a Mount Rushmore of the Arcade. :)

When are you GameXplain people updating with more discussions? Don't tell me you're sleeping. Sleep is for the weak!

Just finished recording, should be pretty soon - thanks for listening!

And now I fall into sweet, sweet sleep. Even if that makes me weak! ;)

And hopefully it wouldn't be up to them and Sakurai would opt for Simon instead.

Since Castlevania has greater lineage with Nintendo than MG ever will.

You would really have Simon Belmont over Snake because of that? Snake played fantastically in Brawl, one of the most unique movesets in the game. He's already tied to the series, no need to replace him with another sword character just because Simon has more history with Nintendo

5 stars from some of the best selling, most critically acclaimed Nintendo games of all time

What a nightmare

superbank

The definition of front-butt.
Now all we need is Bomberman. He's not as big as the other 4 retro icons but he's still big enough imo. Plus, seeing Megaman get proper representation after all the capcom abuse makes me hopeful for Bombermans rescue. At least an assist trophy. :(

Can someone please .gif the part where Sonic, Mega Man and Mario are chasing Pac-Man and then he comes back chasing them in his classic form? Thanks!
