Xbox One July monthly OS update detailed

Here’s a shortlist of features rolling out in the next few days to folks getting early access to the Xbox One system update.

  • Snap Mode for Achievements. As we showed at our E3 Green Carpet event before the show, we’re offering an easier way to track and view your achievements in the moment. With Achievement Snap, you can track your achievement progress in real time without ever leaving the game. You can also ‘Get Help’ on any Achievements you’re struggling with. Xbox will scan the web for you and deliver relevant tips and strategy content right to your TV. You can view a video about this feature here.
  • Double-tap to Snap. Double-tap the button on you controller to bring up Snap Center, where you can launch Achievements or any other snap-able app, without leaving your game. Already have an app snapped? Double-tap quickly switches between your game and the snapped app.
  • Choice of Spoken Language. Folks in New Zealand, Ireland and Austria can now enable voice control using the English or German voice models from other countries. And if you're an expat in an English-speaking country, you, too, can choose any of the other English language models that fit you.
  • Future Digital Bundles and Compilation Discs. We’re doing some work now so that publishers will have options for great digital bundle and disc compilation offerings in the future. As we test this feature, we’ll be seeing more flexible combinations of game titles and game content.
  • ‘Like’ Game DVR clips. We’re are adding the ability to ‘Like’ all your favorite Game DVR clips as well as activity feed items in SmartGlass.

Accidentally posted all of the article.

Hmm, wonder what this means. Interesting that they're announcing this as part of the July update when it has almost nothing to do with the OS.

Also, the Snap Achievements feature looks awesome!

Are these just examples, and can anyone chose any language now, or are these specific options for these specific countries the only ones available?

The achievement app seemed great, especially to track your progress in all the "grinding" achievements. Being able to directly look for help online is a nice feature too. :)

I wish the achievement list was a simple list like the 360 rather than using the current layout which requires so much scrolling.

Sounds like a humble bundle type thing. Sony announced this at E3 also.

Anything planned for Kinect-less XBO owners to "speak" to the console using the headset?

I'd love to say "Xbox, record that" instead of passing thru all the steps to save my gameplay.

Why would they do this and give you reasons not to buy a standalone kinect when they come out?

I was hoping they would address the xbox record feature for kinectless x1s :(

Open GameDVR, record the last 5 minutes, then edit what you want. They're definitely going to maintain the incentive of having the Kinect and being able to say "Xbox, record that" so that people consider buying one.

Loving these updates every month. Snapping achievements will get used often for me. Now if they can allow me to use Xbox Music in the background while achievements are snapped, while playing a game, I'll be an extremely happy camper.

I thought digital bundles might have been the ground work for pre-loading but perhaps I'm reaching a bit? Gotta be soon anyway

Can u even buy at kinect?

That seem very shitty.

Nah, I read it as this: if you had "english" as an option before in your region then you have "american english", "british english", "australian english" etc as options now. It's basically "what dialect of english do you have". Before this it would just assume based on region.

I really liked those 2 features! =)

Awesome I was wondering when this would hit.

edit: This sounds interesting. I do hope some more stuff goes on sale soon.

Agreed. Either that or some way to change the display mode. I almost never use snap for anything so maybe this will be the start.

So, when the achievment popup happens, pressing the X1 button brings up the snap window or launches the full app?

I assume it will be the same as it's been. It'll bring up the full page description and art for the achievement. If you've got the achievement app snapped already though, I'm not sure if it'll force out of snap mode and what happens when you go back from there.

The double tap to snap is for you Kinectless folks. They're already starting to overhaul some stuff for the vanilla's. Nice.

Still, ways to go. I love the shortcut menu at the end of the dashboard. Is very simple. I wish it was right in the center when the system boots up.

People still use MC?

Still nothing I love more for Live TV/DVR than MC.

Unfortunately, whoever is in charge of the xbox tv app still won't/can't fix it to use subchannels for OTA, but I just must be a minority of a minority.

I really want them to redo the achievement app system. I feel like viewing that information when playing was much quicker in 360.

There's a lot that needs fixing.
Drive-bys are the BEST form of posting on Gaf, and guaranteed to earn you the respect of fellow posters and a congratulatory PM from mods :)

But just for laughs, can you quantify what needs fixing, and whether you own an xbox one?

I wish Sony was this quick about adding new features to the PS4, I thought they'd have a new version for E3 but nope.
