New World of Warcraft Models: Human Male

I like the face, but the body is still to huge. And whats with the popeye forearms? Also, body is to hairy.

His body hair is pretty mild, all things considered. He simply has hair now, which is a bit more realistic than the baby smooth look he was sporting before.

The rest of it is just holdovers from the old art, which were (questionable) design choices, not deficiencies in technology.

I'm glad they didn't make it look as much like the old one as they have done with the other races. It's a huge improvement, but I still don't want to play one.

Thanos acquires the fully powered Infinity Gauntlet in The Avengers: Infinity War, but loses when all the superheroes team up together to stop him.
I really like the hair.

It still looks terrible. There are SO many MMOs nowadays that simply sink WoW under every possible point of view. It's amazing that people still play it.

I guess if I ever get the urge to play an ape, I'll go back to wow.

Cool!

On the other hand, I think WoW continues to have top notch art direction. All recent MMOs overshadow it in terms of graphics, sure, but so did EverQuest 2 back in the day (not so significantly, of course). In terms of aesthetics, in terms of charm and invitingness, not a lot of MMOs surpass it. In my eyes, WoW provides a pretty great example of how to make a world timeless.

I'll probably never return to it either, though, independently of my desire to play an ape.

Anyway, this is a solid improvement, for sure. Not all the original models demanded to be improved (the male Tauren model was great, for example), but man...the human male just was not well put together. I'm really liking the new one so far. It's "manly" in exactly the same way the original was clearly intended to be, but without the jarring deformities. Arms continue to be a little too massive, though. Haha.

That's neat.

But man, the big problem with Human Males are the animations, I want to see the improvements to that.

I don't think they've said anything about the voices, which is something they really ought to consider.

All the new models have new animations, though.

I recall someone on their sound team at Blizzcon mentioning that all new sounds were going into the new models as well. I'm not sure if that includes voices though.

Wow, looks good. Glad they are updating models. The graphics were one of my biggest turn offs to WoW.

I remember when the original EQ models got overhauls. Man were the forums aflame.

I think at one point the female Barb had Daisy Duke hot pants on instead of a kilt either as a place holder or a glitch. That got corrected fast :p

Like every other reveal, SHOW THE ANIMATIONS.

They look alright, but Blizzard can really animate, so I want to see them in motion.

Looks alright for a 10 year old game, but boy has the art style died since WotLK. Just looking at the Tier 17 (holy crap that is a huge number) of Death Knight and the PvP set of Warrior and I can't help but laugh at whoever thought it was a good idea to have floating loin cloths and horn boners.

But still, yeah, graphics are like the least important thing in an MMO, I agree with that.

Graphics are hugely important. They're a massive part of what helps immersion in the world. They entice you in, they charm you with their quirks and personality, they paint the setting.

Well made visuals enhance gameplay, they're connected.

Anyway, I think the new models look really good. Lots of personality.

Well, not bad, certainly an improvement over the original models. Quite interested in seeing what Night Elf males look like now.

I dig the chest fur! The models themselves are a huge improvement without taking away from the beefiness of the original. I think the fur and level of swole should be adjustable, though.

It'd be nice if you could change the frame/weight of every character actually. Just a few options would add a lot of variety.

Haha, what is this? That's not what human looks like. Looks like a tall fantasy-dwarf.

Yeah, you ever heard of something called "cartoony artstyle"?
How is this in any way supposed to look realistic? It never did.

That said, I really like the improvements.
It's about damn time they up the graphics for that game, too.

Vast improvement over the old human males, but the proportions are still totally ridiculous and I'm definitely not a fan. (Slightly less) hairless gorillas.

Faces look a lot better. I always had to put a beard on my human males since I hated the old look.
Still not going back though.

The fact that Blizzard takes the time to create completely unique models, skeletons and animations for each playable race and their respective genders puts WoW leaps and bounds ahead of the competition in terms of art direction and personality. Seriously, after WoW I'm constantly disappointed by more or less every other RPG (online or otherwise) just using the same base humanoid models and animations for all their races. No matter how dated the graphics in WoW get, it will always ooze much more life and personality.

The facial expressions sell this update for me. That level of expressiveness is just so good. I never liked humans in WoW, and I don't find this a beauty to look at, but it's still pretty good both as an improvement and as a character model, so much better than what the normal model looks and it manages to keep a sense fidelity with the original.
They did a good job.
