GeDoSaTo - Downsampling from Infinity and Beyond!

How does this handle non-native aspect ratios? I'd like to see what kind of performance I get out of a 290 at 1440x3440 before I pick up the LG 34UM95. Would this be a problem on a 16:9 1080p screen?

Tried tha last version:

L.A. Noire: It messes up the launcher, you can still click and launch the game, but it doesn't work. Tried with a combination of settings.

Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory (I know, noboby cares but): Tried a combination of setting, while injecting the new res into 1600x900, nothing, the game is stuck in a flashing screen during gameplay, but it's somewhat responsive and you can open the menù, which shows up fine.

This is awesome! Thanks Durante! Original Sin runs lovely on this. Running the game currently at 4k downsampled to 1080p @ max settings for the game. Capped the frames at 30 and it never drops below. I have a Gtx 780 Ti.

For scaling, used Lanczos just for shits and giggles.

Hmm, maybe it's just me but that looks oddly sharper than I would have expected.

Are you using any AA? Maybe that's why it seems different

Well, from the text editor, I have AA set to 3 which is "high." AA type is FXAA. And the max AA settings from in game. I think it was SMAA 1x in game?

Edit: Yup, SMAA 1x in game.

Hi.

I am having a strange problem with Div:OS, it seems that no matter what I type as a resolution in the config, it will not pick it up. I get a custom resolution but this is always 2800x1800 (14:9) regardless of what I type and save in the config...

Anybody experienced this?

Here's another screenshot. The only problem I see is that Steam Overlay is pretty much useless. lol

lIS.png

Awesome screenshots! I wish the character portraits matched the actual character but oh well. I get around 20fps when set to 4k. I have an EVGA GTX 770 Dual SuperClocked 4GB but thinking about replacing it with a 780 Ti of some variety.

I should note that your monitor recommendation actually helped me find an LCD that I can stand using. I didn't get that Eizo (too small), but I ended up with that 32" 1440p BenQ AMVA monitor. While not as dark as my plasma it's still worlds beyond any IPS or TN display I've used. It's certainly made playing from my desk enjoyable again.

Damn.. I wish I had known about this monitor.

I recently bought an ASUS PA248Q because I needed a second monitor that was 1920x1200 at least and had decent display quality. Unfortunately was using a Dell 2408WFP which is a PVA monitor and going from PVA to IPS is kind of a shocker with the 3Dish light glow if you're offcenter a little bit. There's also a lot of light bleed/blooming compared to my old monitor.

Is the monitor you have a BenQ BL3200PT ? Do you have an extended impressions post or review somewhere I can look at?

Edit: Ooh. Found a TFTCentral review on it (Love their reviews)

It totally depends on the game. For example, I'm playing Blackguards right now, and on my lowly 770 I can put it at 4k with lanczos downsampling and hit 30 fps (which is totally fine since the game is turn-based).

And of course I can downsample Ys Origin from 6k with 100+ FPS :p

Did I ever tell you that your complaints about the downsampled screenshots in the screenshot thread not looking like what people are actually playing were one reason I started working on GeDoSaTo? Now, with Lanczos support, we're pretty much there.

Thanks! Writing GUIs is very boring, but I realized that it's the only way to get most people to even have a look at the settings.
Is the Lanczos more like Lanczos 3 or 2? (IE: LZ2 is way too sharp and creates aliasing) Or more custom?

The Lanczos in Infranview for example is like LZ2, but worse.

/edit; should probably just test and see for myself

Am still not getting it able to work with Mafia II no matter what. Alternative injection doesn't detect the application.

And if I try to override the resolution or forceAlwaysDownsamplingRes with the default injector it just crashes on loadup.

I disabled both detection for MSI Afterburner OSD, any forced settings in NInspector and the steam overlay.

Works for me using default alternate injection method and forceAlwaysDownsamplingRes set to false... I'm not using Steam version though. Maybe that's why...

How can i enable postprocessing only for Dark Souls 2 and disable for all others games (without tinkering ini files or pressing numpad every time)?

Yep, that's the one. Absolutely blows away any IPS display I've used and the AMVA panel is an improvement on older VA panels as well. There's virtually no contrast shift and the image is very consistent across the entire panel. I actually feel the viewing angles are better on this display than the IPS display I also use.

It's also HUGE.

I considered one of those 34" 21:9 LG monitors but they all use IPS technology which turned me off. Those are slightly wider but using a 32" 16:9 display really fills your field of view. Also, 1440p at 32" is very comfortable to read with a DPI that's basically about the same as a 24" monitor.

Hm. I'll have to try again. :|

Nope. Overlay doesn't show up, game still maxes out at 3200x1800.

I'm getting the following message when I attempt to use the latest version of GeDoSaTo:

Is there a fix for this?

When a program isn't allowed to do something, most of the times, running it elevated ('Run as administrator') fixes this.

Couple shots from The Witcher 1 (6720x4200) :

It's not working yet in the current 0.8 build but probably will in the next one, I made a very small modification to the code
Unfortunately the UI becomes very tiny and it's unplayable at such a high res

EDIT : also SSFIV running at a ridiculous 58fps even at 6720x4200+CSQ16 ingame AA+FXAA, I swear while gorgeous this game could run on a Pentium II

You are basically asking to configure the program without configuring it. That's kind of difficult.

Anyway, .ini files don't bite. What you need to do is disable postprocessing in the global settings and enable it in the DS2 profile. Takes all of 5 seconds.

I just don't know (until now!) about profiles, thanks!

Just wanted to give Durante a huge thanks for this program. I played through Dishonored downsampling 3200x1800 to 1920x1080 and the game looked amazing the whole time through.

Wait wut?? You got SSFIV running? I must know your config (how many souls will it take to share this 0_0).

Thanks for the continuous hard work Durante, 0.8 is amazing! :D I have the same problem taking screenshots as mentioned by someone else where taking screenshots in normal mode blows the 1080p image back to the downsample resolution so I have to take full screenshots now and 1080p them manually but that's hardly a big deal. The features and simplicity you added to everything makes me wish GeDoSaTo would come bundled with every gaming rig :p

Here are two Astebreed screenshots I took downsampled from 3840x2160 with Lanczos filtering. Screenshots don't do this game any justice compared to how it looks in motion but still:

At this resolution this game even manages to bring my 7970 to its knees when lots is happening :p And it's notable that Astebreed supports up to 7680x4320 natively by itself!

I have a Samsung PN63C8000 63" 3D 1080p Plasma TV that I occasionally play on and the highest resolution I was ever able to achieve through driver-based downsampling was 2816x1584. Tried GeDoSaTo last night and ran it at the full 3840x2160. Rayman, Dishonored and Batman looked glorious.

Witcher 2 doesn't seem to work for me (using alternate injection). The game boots and then I get a Direct3d error, then the game goes windowed and kinda blurry.
This worked for me using alt injection:

http://blog.metaclassofnil.com/?p=551
If the alternative injection method is not working for you, you might have to set the registry value “LoadAppInit_DLLs” in the key “HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows” to “1″. Beta 9 will do this automatically.

Something looks wrong with that SFIV screenshot. As if the game is being upscaled or something... or maybe it's the JPG compression?

Yup you're right, that's a heavily compressed jpg but even without it the rendering doesn't look quite good, probably because the resolution is too high or something I don't know. I don't care : It's definitely not worth GeDoSato'ing for SSFIV anyway

The cool thing is that the fix I made to SSF4 seems to also make (certain) ENB compatible with GTA IV :

It runs like crap of course (with IceEnhancer 2.1) and I can't guarantee this is going to work with newer ENB. I'll probably submit the modification to Durante anyway

Gladly:) The Ultra update doesn't release until August anyway so it's a waiting game either way. Thanks again for your help, that's really great news!

Loving this program so much! I was wondering, for those running this with Divinity: Original Sin, what resolutions/settings are you using and what kind of FPS are you getting. Using the settings listed below I am averaging around 30-35FPS. I am using an i7 4770k OC'd to 4.2 GHz and a GTX 770OC 4GB video card without OC'ing it.

I am running everything maxed out in the game with GeDoSATo using the following settings (removed extra settings that are default or commented out). I apologize for the long wall of code text.

Just looked over your code and noticed you typed "SSAO" under Anti-Aliasing settings. You probably want to change that to "SMAA"

Just tried GeDoSaTo in the living room using a BenQ W1070 home theater projector shot onto a 150" screen. It never occured to me that I could downsample using a projector but I guess it makes sense. Anyway, It worked great and looked phenomenal.

Have been testing the new beta in a few games - Witcher 2, Divinity OS, and Hard Reset, particularly the new Lanczos scaling method. Long story short, I like how Lanczos looks in Divinity but it looks oversharpened with more aliasing in Hard Reset and Witcher 2. I prefer to use Bicubic for those instead. Captured a quick comparison for Witcher 2:

Have been testing the new beta in a few games - Witcher 2, Divinity OS, and Hard Reset, particularly the new Lanczos scaling method. Long story short, I like how Lanczos looks in Divinity but it looks oversharpened with more aliasing in Hard Reset and Witcher 2. I prefer to use Bicubic for those instead. Captured a quick comparison for Witcher 2:

Lanczos: https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3904/14551960991_011671fc92_o.jpg

Bicubic: https://farm3.staticflickr.com/2917/14368762988_bc4956f2cc_o.jpg

Been unable to test myself, but it definitely sounds like it's too close to Lanczos2 , ick.

For Gedosato settings, all am using is lanczos downsampling, everything else disabled. For ingame settings, am using SMAA and everything maxed out except for ssao disabled (it flickers too much for me). I get around 30-45 fps at 4K, 55-60fps at 2880x1620. With ocd 2600K and 780.

What other titles were you interested in testing? I can test some for you if it's within my reach.

Just looked over your code and noticed you typed "SSAO" under Anti-Aliasing settings. You probably want to change that to "SMAA"

Gack! Thanks for catching that. I am an idiot lol.

Awesome! Thanks for sharing your config info. I'll give that a try this morning and see what happens.

That's why you have options.

Erk, trying to downsample DkS2 at 10000x10000 rendering res to 1920x1080 120 or 60 fps just crashes my game whenever I flip the switch in the settings. I've disabled the steam overlay. What have I missed?

Edit: It worked with lower resolutions, heh.

Currently polling second in Australia's federal election (first in the Gold Coast), this feral may one day be your Bogan King.

It's digging in the crates, but the Silent Hill 2 and 3 PC ports would be awesome. They are available via the PCSX2, but I would be interested to see how the legit PC ports compared.

If my memory serves, all the PS2 era Silent Hill PC ports are are DX8.1.
So it makes me wonder what kind of work would that involve.

You are correct on the dx8 for 2 and 3. They both have enb dx9 wrappers though, so I was hoping that those could be utilized in some way.

I'm finding uses for GeDoSaTo I never even thought of... o.o I needed the logo of Astebreed for the OT I'm making and Google didn't find anything but I always saw the logo on the games title-screen of course so I figured I work from there. At first I thought of taking a screenshot and cutting it out though then I realized "Why not try GeDoSaTo's texture dump feature?" It worked like a charm and gave me the cleanest possible version of the logo! :D

Apologize if this is a stupid question, but would this have trouble running on different locales? I'm in Japan and running a US comp on JP locale, and I cannot seem to get the app to work. It just isn't being recognized with Divinity, and I'm wondering if it installed funky (glitches out sometimes). I added the exe to the whitelist and am running it as admin. Am I just being dumb?
