I like this one.

dat Equestria Girls Rarity doll.....do not want..

Ha! Never change, fandom.

Huh, fair enough. I'm looking forward to seeing the one Ashleigh Ball has coming out.

According to a poster at The Round Stable, this is concept art for the show from before when Lauren Faust was brought on board. The poster treated it as a known thing, so it must be old, but I've never heard anything about this before.

Those are cute. But, assuming they were set on a flash animated series, those big poofy manes wouldn't have really worked well, I don't think.

Yikes, glad Faust came along. You can definitely see the DNA of the previous generations in those designs; bit cutesy for my tastes.

It looks like a weird fusion of G3.5 and the G4 we got. Not terrible, but definitely glad we got the designs we did.

It's not too bad. It's not overwhelmingly neotenic, although maybe a bit too much for the reduced degree of stylization in the design details, and a preoccupation with making the overall look derivative of G3.5 is quite noticeable. Ms. Faust's option to go all the way regarding stylization really paid off, in my opinion, because it allowed the neotenic aspects to be perfectly integrated into the designs - she used her own fan art formula, which allowed her to dissociate her work totally from everything past G1.

ANYWAY

Here is something I did. Please understand.

Ha, this is really cool! Nice job.

Nice work Myke.

Just out of curiosity though, given that you used Fleur in that piece, why Hoity Toity and not Fancy Pants?

Those designs just make me sad for the eventual G5 and how it probably won't measure up to the current style we have now.

Also, nice work Myke.

Thanks all.

Well, Fleur is the pony that seems to be more suitable for the part of jument fatale (I'm drawing her portrait as such right now!), but Fancy Pants has always seemed to me to be more the James Bond for Hoity Toity's Austin Powers. Since the request that originated this picture specifically asked for Hoity Toity, I decided to use them both, but I've already received feedback asking for a James Bond inspired piece featuring Fancy Pants. I think Fleur is mare enough for both secret agent stallions. ;)

Well considering Hasbro wanted Gen 4 to have a Gen 3 influence odds are that Gen 5 will have a Gen 4 influence. Why fix what isn't broken?

I'm noticing a lot of doom and gloom lately about G4 ending to make way for G5... is this all based on the CEO at the Hub leaving?

I very much doubt the Hub CEO has any influence on the series which is probably influenced by future toys lines or Hasbro Studios and the latter seems quite content with way things are going.

Well yeah, that was my thinking too. I was under the impression that Hasbro fund their own television content and therefore aren't particularly dependant on networks (other than to find one to broadcast their stuff, which I wouldn't imagine is all that difficult with the kind of pull Hasbro commands).

Additionally, starting over with a new generation has to be a pretty huge undertaking; getting the wheels turning on a new series is one thing, but having to also reset the entire merch machine must be a gargantuan process. I can't imagine it's something they'd put into motion just because a network that runs some of their shows had some changes in staffing.

Nahhh, just thinking about the inevitability of what a new show would be like.

Started imagining Fleur as a Jument Fatale, ended up with this.

I have no idea what a Jument Fatale is, but that's a great look for Fleur.

I'd love to see this whole scene ponified with Dash as Scout.

Thank you, I ended up letting myself be inspired by Sin City of all things, go figure. Jument is french for mare, as any translation tool could have told you.

This was bugging me last night. I think femme should still fit. deadly mare just doesn't seem...right.

At least one theater is listing a showing of Equestria Girls: Rainbow Rocks on September 27th, and it's being listed elsewhere as 80 minutes. I believe the first movie was 72 minutes, for comparison. I find it hard to imagine that the adult turnout will be nearly as big as for the first movie, now that Equestria Girls is a known factor and there's nothing particularly shocking about this one, but the actual target audience did somehow make the dolls bestsellers, so maybe they will have a big turnout this time. I myself am only interested in how they explain Twilight and how bizarre the story turns out to be.

Also, this is surprisingly nice looking.

Well, Twilight at least. Rainbow's face looks weird, but that may just be the angle and lighting.

News roundup!

Ashleigh Ball's documentary, A Brony Tale, is in theaters now.

The Equestria Girls Mane-iac doll actually doesn't look half bad with the glasses up.

Here's the cover for the Equestria Girls book that actually is adapting the Rainbow Rocks movie, unlike the one called Rainbow Rocks, which adapted the prequel shorts.

Anneli Heed (Swedish Spitfire) and Daniel Ingram play "You'll Play Your Part". I haven't paid any attention to her at all, so I'm surprised she can sing English so well.

A Brony Tale gets a positive and a negative review (or rather, positive except for still thinking bronies are creepy). I wasn't particularly interested in the documentary produced by John deLancie, but this does seem to be getting more positive press and using Ashleigh Ball as a viewpoint character seems to do a good job providing more of a narrative to the film, which is important for documentaries.

And ED interviews comic artist Agnes Garbowska. ED's journalism is usually lacking, but I am once again impressed by their comic artist interview series.

YOU'VE AWAKEN THE OWL

I still think it looked better without the two face shadings at the center :(

Don't you think that it would have made her face look flat?

Some shades are fine but they should be lighter and slightly above the nose, like this one. Ponies look better with round faces imo, too much shading make them look semi anthro.
