Once-hyped games that are now completely forgotten

You know, that game that got a shitload of hype and then vanished without a trace almost immediately after release. The game that no one talks about for any reason other than to make you go, "oh yeah, that game." The game that got all those magazine cover stories that seem like they could have gone to a more worthwhile game, in retrospect. I have possibly made Titanfall: The Thread here (this is me pre-empting the inevitable "one and done" post), but the game I had more in mind was this:

Brute Force was a case of being in the right place at the right tine, I think. I have no other explanation for why this game was so hotly anticipated. I guess the Xbox had had a slow year up to then, so Microsoft's marketing dollars had to go somewhere, but the amount of "Halo killer" hyperbole around it was absolutely ridiculous. When it came out, most people found it to be a competent but unremarkable shooter, its longevity strangled by its lack of Xbox Live support. As such, the game's hype deflated about 5 minutes after its release. Believe it or not, it was (very) briefly the fastest-selling Xbox game of all time upon release. Now the only place you're likely to see it mentioned, anywhere, is in a thread like this. It has become almost the stock example of a flash-in-the-pan game. Ironically, this means that, like Millard Fillmore, it may actually be remembered for being forgotten.

What are some other examples?

I still remember the insane amount of hype this game got and the full-stories devoted to it in Gaming Mags (much of it due to the fact that one of the girls in the game would be appearing in playboy).

Its apparently so forgotten now that the LttP thread I made about barely got any responses.

Darkwatch's legacy will forever be its confusion with this game:

When that Spore creator was came out, people were going nuts. The imaginations were running wild and people were going ape shit with hype levels.

Then the full game came out. Good god. Nope, nope, nope.

You win, I don't think I've even heard this game mentioned since 2005 before this thread.

I still like playing titanfall.
Brink
Call of Duty Ghosts (Dat fish AI)
Watch Dogs
Assassin's Creed 3
There's more but I can't think of any other right now.

Is amazing how much this describes Titanfall. Just replace "Halo Killer" with "CoD Killer."

I remember quite a lot of hype for Enter the Matrix back in the day. People really thought they had figured out how to make a great licensed game...

I recall Darkwatch, but I don't remember there being a significant amount of hype behind it. Was it really supposed to be that big of a game?

Seraphis Cain

bad gameplay lol

I remember there being a pretty significant amount of hype for it, yeah. It got a few magazine covers pre-release, and a LOT of preview coverage. Like, way more than the average title got.

The Matrix franchise in general is this. Remember when The Matrix was a culturally relevant thing and not just snark bait?

This game was getting several magazine covers, and I was completely into the hype. It seemed like such a great idea for a game, then it turned out to not really be what anyone expected.... and then the studio made Evil Genius and closed down. :(

Rascal. It was supposed to be the Playstation's Mario 64. However it was found to be almost unplahyable due to a combination of poorly thought out controls, and a camera that was too close.

Also Blasto.

Ah, Republic. Was really hyped for it, bought it day 1, and then never really understood it. Still have the box and the discs for it.

Am I wrong or was there substantial hype for Glover back in the day?

Then it turned out to be one of the worst games I've ever played.
