Wolfenstein TNO: 2014 GotY + one of the best shooters ever *GIF WARNING*

I bought the game but I can't play it. It makes me dizzy and gives me a headache. Probably because BJ's head is bouncing around every time he moves, like he is some type of bobblehead.

I want to say again: The contextual leaning is pretty cool. You can change your perspective, or use it to strafe into corners and peak in and out of cover.

probably asked zillion times, but any tips for the end boss?

its driving me crazy. just want to finish the damn game
and dont want to lower difficulty at the very end.
at all the play videos i watch, people manage to accumulate absurd amount of health armor before facing him and go brute force.
i dont have that much to collect. 50 armor 150 health max. and they start to vanish as soon as i jump in to the hole. seems impossible to find a lasting cover and maintain health because of environmental damage etc.

finally picked it up and it's just so good. goddamn, they make amazing FPSs. Same team that made The Darkness (which might be my most underrated game last gen, so fucking amazing), right?

Forget every other weapon and use your laser-cutter weapon only; it does the most damage to him. There are charge stations all across the map, always hide and crouch and try to trick him. Hide behind pipes, walls etc..

Playing on Über? Here is how I managed to take it down:
1. HP at around 200. I did collect all those health upgrades, but only later on.
2. Dual rocket launchers. Make sure you gain all perks that affect the rocket launchers. You need the maximum amount of ammo for rocket launchers. And you need the dual setup.
3. Save your rocket ammo for the last phase of the fight.
4. Collect everything before dropping down. Cut open the metal crates to find some of that scarce rocket launcher ammo.
5. Drop down. Spam a few grenades at the mech. You will know you are doing damage when it twitches and flames start sprouting everywhere.
6. Take the right hand walkway. Make your way to the narrow corridor behind thin walls. No flames there. Pick up a crate of rockets next to a pillar just next where you drop down.
7. There is another crate of rockets in the back corner of the safe area.
8. The mech is now approaching your safe area. You cannot really see it through the flames, but your targeting reticule wil still change color based on whether it detects the enemy.
9. Make sure you have a clear shot at it. Toss a nade or two first.
10. DUMP ALL YOUR ROCKETS INTO HIS FACE
11. When it drops down, approach the cockpit and hit your action key to finish off.
12. Win.

Best single-player fps game that I played in a long time. Gaf recommended this a lot and it was a no-brainer at 50% off the price during steam sale. It was goddamn good.

I've just bought the game after all the good word of mouth it's been getting. The OP has really gotten me pumped up to play it.

It's gun b gud.

In the back half of playing it for the first time on PC (second time through the campaign) and I definitely like the last 5 or 6 chapters most. The bridge level is great. I love how good it looks.

Also, I found out that if you fall off the bridge on your way down to the water B.J. says "Stupid way to die." Just another little thing they put in.

This game is so good.

Thread inspired me to play again through Wyatt's timeline.

I completely agree OP. This is the best singleplayer FPS I've played in years. It might be nostalgia, but I've wanted to dual wield and have all weapons for so long. I understand the 2 weapon setup, but not all games need to do it.

Bought this game during the steam sale. Pretty disappointed that it doesn't support SLI. How will this run on a single 680GTX at 1080p/max settings?

I've got a single 680 and an i7-2600k stock. Playing at 1440p with one or two minor tweaks and have locked 60fps, so you should be fine.

Mostly the same creative team, yes.

Wolfenstein: The New Order's Creative Director, Jens Matthies, started working at Starbreeze in 1998 and was involved in development of Escape From Butcher Bay and The Darkness (mostly as Writer/Artist).

Just started this today. Up to the part where
you swim around in the tunnel glider
. The first couple of hours were underwhelming in my opinion, but the game just gets ridiculously good and varied once you trudge through the initial shoot-bang. Kinda reminds me of GTAV (in terms of level variety) mixed with CoD (in terms of mechanics and gunplay). Thanks for recommending this, OP.

Ye.
They tried so hard to build an opening similar to the Bulletstorm's one, failing with dialogues, setpecies and rhythm. And the first fights among the trenches are insipid.

Definitely a bad way to present the real qualities of the game.

Bridge level is one my fav: great atmosphere, intriguing level design, charming views and tough fights. Can't wait to be there again, at Über.

FYI for lazy people: beating the last level on Uber is enough to unlock the trophy. Heard some people say it doesn't work after the patch but I just did it last night.

That's good to hear. They bring really stellar fps games. Wouldn't mind at all if more devs followed their league.

Yeah, the lack of SLI support is the one thing I was hoping Machine would fix about id Tech 5. On a single overclocked 670 I had to drop shadows to 4k and disable screen-space reflections to maintain a consistent framerate and reduce load times.

Also, do not judge this game after finishing first level. It gets much much better later on.

Nicest surprise of 2014 so far for me. Still need to get that one trophy for platinum :\

Well, i might give it a better chance then, because the first level really didnt sold me. In fact , i didnt even care to finish it after finding it absolutely boring. Its one of those game you toss aside because of the beginning.

But i will give it a second chance.

I made the mistake of clicking New Game instead of choosing a chapter. Now my save is gone without a warning. Can't get it from Steam Cloud either. Oh well.

Finished the Wyatt version last night. The game was good but goddamn it's annoying as hell to recharge your battery weapons. I would also like to sprint and reload, is that a skill upgrade or would it be too overpowered?

I can confirm this too. Playing patched on PS4. I played the first level on I Am Death Incarnate then switched the difficulty to Uber from the second level onwards and the Uber trophy popped after the last level.

Anyway the final boss was thankfully a piece of cake, even on Uber. I beat it first attempt. I used the cowardly hiding under stairs tactic shown in this video here.

http://youtu.be/FeRmnxfsfS8?t=3m30s

Maybe I just got lucky but it worked for me. The boss didn't hit me once whilst I was crouched under the stairs, although I damaged myself a little by trying to throw grenades in such a confined spot.

Just got to Deathshead on Uber. He beat me but I forgot to raid the weapons cabinet and tried taking him on with nothing but Tesla grenades and the LKW. Gave him a run for his money but it got too smokey and I couldn't see shit. I'm worryingly close to platinuming this game without even trophy hunting due to obsessively playing it for days on end

One thing I'll mention that fucked me up good:
when Deathshead's robot winces and covers its face, DON'T STOP SHOOTING. I made that mistake the first few times because I assumed the wince animation meant it was invulnerable and I would be wasting ammo. If you just keep firing with rockets and lasers any time you see the mech, you'll eventually get it before you take too much damage.

Another hint: try to act fast. I think the fire geysers increase in damage the longer you take. At least in the first stages of the battle, even if you run through the geysers you don't take very much damage compared to Deathshead's lasers, so it's better to stay on the move and take your openings where you can instead of trying to camp a single spot because you're afraid of fire.

I didn't use that tactic but I did spend some time in that spot and noticed he wasn't really hurting me. There's actually a lot of instances in the game where the larger mechs just stand still and do nothing if you're in a certain spot.

credits are rolling right now.

fucking loved it. Beautiful, Funny, moving..

GOTY so far.

amazing soundtrack too.

So I bit, and started playing today. Really glad I picked it up, on chapter 3 now and I gotta say, this game is way better than I thought it would be. Enjoying the hell out of it.

I sound like a broken record, but anyone that was surprised Wolfenstein was good would probably enjoy going back and playing The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay and The Darkness afterwards. Wolfenstein carries the torch.

I played through this 4 times including a 999 mode run. 999 mode was really fun but incredibly easy. Might possibly pickup the Metro pack when it comes out because I'm still in the mood for story based FPS games.

Just finished the game. Fuck me. Fantastic game, i loved every second of it. I hope Machine Games makes lots more games(and people buy them) cause they are supremely talented bunch.

My favorite single player shooter since...I guess Bioshock Infinate. Also the best game on the PS4 by a large margin.

I wonder if the screen space reflections being maxed out on my playthrough was what caused the weird framerate drops whenever i stared at a fence. I ran everything maxed on my 770 oc'd but still got my fps cut in half whenever i looked at metal bars or fences up close.

Wait the fast talking psycho girl isnt in the Wyatt version? thats a pretty big change. No wonder the game is 50 gigs. Shit ton of variation video cutscenes.

My god, some of the encounters in this game are just horrifically poorly designed. In a completely sealed room with no possible entry points? You're being flanked! It kind of reminds of Battlefield 3 or Resistance 2 where the game decides something is happening and doesn't give a shit what you're doing or how much sense it makes. Also, the enemies seem to do that insufferable thing where once you're caught they never ever lose track of you.

Overall, a solid but unspectacular game for me. Almost done with the Fergus time line on Uber.

After playing this game and reading this thread, I'm super bummed that I never played Escape From Butcher Bay or The Darkness. It's somewhat unlikely I'll ever get to them at this point.

I was never big on The Darkness, but I absolutely love Wolfenstein. I don't think I've enjoyed a FPS campaign this much since No One Lives Forever.
I'm currently at the end, right before the final battle. Might try and finish it tonight.

that ending..... Wtf
Does that means Blazko won't be in any sequels? . Because if so that kind of sucks, I figured they can always go back to America and help the people oppressed by the Nazi's over there, that was a super depressing ending

I picked the game up thanks to the OP. I just started chapter six right now. I have to say that I'm enjoying it thus far and I hope it will get even better. One thing though, shotgun is so overpowered, it's disgusting! I died on chapter 4 so many times because of these shotgun wielders!

I forgot to mention how bad the footsteps are.. Sometimes you hear them and not. Nothing like having a huge big bad dude sneak up on you because he didn't make a sound while trudging along.
