I mean, this is weird and unprecedented, having a third-party guest character who is not tied to a company represented by a guest character.

I guess at least Rayman represents quality. But I will fling feces if they put in something from Assassin's Creed or Watch_Dogs. I wil fling feces.

I'm hoping for Rabbids* as a quarter of the roster like happened to that TMNT Smash-up fighting game the ex-Brawl developers worked on for Ubisoft (IIRC the game had 16 characters too and the TMNT has ways more than 12 viable characters).

*-Some in cosplay, so like Sam Fischer Rabbid

Better be a character. If he's just a trophy........
This is a bad omen.

Would be kind of cool if Smash became like a love letter/museum of sorts for the most iconic/historic characters in games

...and Snake.

No, Sakurai will finally reveal Sigurd in Super Smash Bros.

Man, I heard Sigurd was this close to being in Melee, but they decided to use Roy at the last minute to promote Fire Emblem Sword of Seals. Maybe that's why Roy's voice is so deep.

If the intention of the Rayman tease was to toy with expectations so that today's announcement would have a bigger impact on people it had the opposite effect on me. :(

With Ubi ignoring and talking shit about Nintendo, it would be a nail in the coffin for their relationship if Nintendo acted the same way in return. Seems like some kind of passive-aggressive relationship where Nintendo is being nice to Ubi because of some of the things they've done for them in the past (or recently ZombiU etc) and hope they'll get back to that one day.
Look, the kids have grown up and left. There's no need to stop bickering and pretend the relationship isn't fucking done in the name of not ruining the trip to Disney World.

And if that means no Princess of Light then boo fuckity hoo.

Anyone else finding REALLY WEIRD that we didn't had ANYTHING else beyond the miiverse post ?

No site, no trailer no oficial statement, no nothing ?

Why are people treating the companies like some bickering entities?
Nintendo's the one acting like a broken housewife.

All I'm saying is if asked to devote resources to them in my game, I'd tell Ubisoft to fuck off and gargle their own piss.

If Nintendo think that giving a Ubi an inch is worth thier time then that's their own dumb call.

Ahahahahaha.

OK, I hate Ubisoft, but this is just funny.

needs to be the mother fucking first post of EVERY SMASH THREAD FROM HERE ON OUT!!!!

gahhh

But what if the thread is for the shulk reveal?

"Shulk was revealed today at the end of the Nintendo Direct right after the new Xenobalde X video.

*Screens*"

"thats not shulk"

Lel I'm so salty. xDDDDDDDDDD

It's more of a question as to what the point of this is. I hope we don't start getting dozens of random third party trophies now.

I hope we do. I feel like Melee and Brawl kinda covered nearly everything the world of Nintendo has to offer, aside from stuff released since Brawl of course. Third-parties would give the trophies a bit of fresh blood.

None of this makes any sense. None of it. Am I still sleeping? No sense.

Dammit Sakurai. I didn't even know I wanted Rayman playable in Smash, but now I do.

Notice how it says "in order to make Rayman's trophy...".

That leads me to think it's a playable character.

It's the complete opposite to me — asking for references just to make a trophy that late in the development seems indicative that it's just a 3rd part cameo. More-so when he mentioned Ubisoft actually providing a ready-made model itself. And speaking of which, his goofy expression is right out of the recent games, I love that. Wonder if Sora/Bandai-Namco had modelled it, it would of been a more typical pose.

Maybe it might of been better to keep this hidden till release, not just as a larger surprise but to stop any suspicion on Rayman being playable.

I think I'm still holding out hope for a playable Rayman (day 1 or DLC)
I doubt Nintendo(or Sakurai) is holding some sort of childish grudge because Ubi delayed Rayman Legends (an arguably useless move in the long run).; I hope some of you guys are joking with that stuff. lol

Edit:
I'm not gonna lie, I'd feel a bit disrespected as a Rayman fan if he's a random useless 3rd party trophy because of some sophomoric resentment of Ubi from Nintendo's camp.

My guess is that this was a sonic situation where ubi asked Nintendo but it was too late to make a character and not worth delaying the game for rayman, so Sakurai appeased them with a trophy, only to discover that they already had a model made up that they wanted to use for rayman' character model. DLC is possible.

So I guess I'm adding Rayman to my list of expected dlc characters

Basically. I still like the implication that Ubisoft sent him this data hoping he'd make a character out of it, and he just made a trophy. As long as we never, ever, ever see the Raving Rabbids. EVER. My first DLC expectations were Mewtwo, Isaac, and Snake, but Rayman just may have become the prioritized 3rd Party.

Or the fact that Rayman looks hella drunk making it look like he just stumbled into Smash Bros. and is playing it off like he's meant to be there, as a mere trophy in a game about Nintendo history.

Incidentally, I still want to see better trophies this time, and maybe have the "Series History" work better, like showing first appearance, biggest appearance, latest major appearance (So Mario'd be Donkey, Super Mario Bros., Mario Kart 8, or Mr. Game & Watch'd be Ball, Super Smash Bros. Melee, Game & Watch Gallery 4). It always bugged me that Brawl just picked 2-3 games haphazardly.

There is something really wrong with this post .... simply no big site mentioned .... the miiverse post don't make a big fuss .... it even appears that he was announced already o_O

Rayman Legends is published in Japan by... Nintendo...

I'm torn on this. It's just a trophy but I'm still annoyed by Ubisoft's stupidity regarding Rayman Legends. It may be petty but it still annoys me and as a result I wouldn't mind if there was something else in its place. The only positive is maybe Ubisoft was hoping he'd be a playable character, thus getting more exposure for the franchise, and instead they just got a trophy that will be ignored in the end and not given a second look by those that buy the game. Thus getting no positive benefit in the end.
