Came in thinking there was an update for the bump...

And iD tech 5? Going to be weird looting stuff that is just a flat texture on a table.

The proposed info is around 12 months old so even if you're going with NowGamer (they've made up rumors like Final Fantasy XIII Seasons), ZeniMax may have not yet given up idtech5 at that point, since they seemed to try to force every game on it to save a buck and stopped when they realizes it had notable issues.

I fully expect that Battlecry and Prey 2 weren't originally on CryEngine. ZeniMax may have gotten a mass discount on that engine though since Crytek is not in a commanding engine position.

Finally got around to finishing Dishonored only yesterday, such a fantastic game that I feel bad for not giving my attention earlier and getting for so cheap in a Steam sale. Eager to rectify this with a sequel!

The idea of the game using the tech 5 engine seems fine to me, especially after how well wolfenstein turned out. But truthfully I'd rather they stick with UE3 in order to preserve the aesthetics and look of the original.

What about ue4? Maybe that could preserve the look of the original.

So the original leak was right too? Could be.

I love the first game and the Dauds DLCs. I would be all in for D2. The only thing that would suck would be id tech 5 (the textures are just so bad).

My wishes for D2 would be: be a longer game than D1and please design every level hub world like like mission two "High Overseer Campbell".

I'm pretty sure NowGamer's 'source' is the same person who tipped off every man and their dog a while back in the hope of getting some fame.

Not that NowGamer would be trusted anyways with their ma, da, bro or sis in regards to "rumours". That place is the shit bucket, so to speak.

Again, I don't doubt D2 is happening, but these leaks are pretty awful. That boxart looks fake to me since the typeface looks like amateur photoshop work.

Building it on the UE4 I fear will contribute to a lot of things getting missed in the transition, potentially due to an increases in flashier tech, which as it stands is my biggest concern with the sequel. I'd much rather have the same engine, same design and aesthetics with a new story, characters and locations. That and I hope to god viktor antonov is lead art design for the sequel as well, he was the key reason dishonored looked the way it does

if love it if it were UE4-but idtech5 is no slouch

I'd imagine his work on Battlecry is nearing its end and being that dishonored 2 is still years away, I think it's safe to assume they'll figure out a way to get him back on bored....I hope

Nah, he's the creative director. He's heading up the project in Austin. It won't be ready till next year.

Sebastien Mitton was the art director on Dishonored. He's still in Lyon.

What's with all the hate for id tech5??

That's one of the best/most fluid engines I have ever seen. Wolfenstein looked great as did Rage.

I don't get it....

GOTY 2012 lives! I hope we don't have to wait too long for an official reveal, even if it's one of those reluctant, forced-hand reveals publishers do when they know their secret's out. The first game was revealed with a Game Informer cover, right?

Dishonored was brilliant, and I usually don't play this kind of games.

The universe is very interesting and very much deserving of more exploration and development.

Is Tyvia something they introduced in the DLC? I was expecting a location in the Pandyssian Continent or the Isles for the sequel.

Forgive my ignorance but what's so bad about id tech 5? :/

There is nothing wrong with it other than texture pop in (can be bad at times).

Its a gorgeous engine that runs at a solid 60fps and I would much rather have what id tech 5 brings than what other less efficient engines bring.

Um...what? Wolfenstein runs like ass, texture pop is always bad and even when loaded the textures look terrible up close. Rage looks even worse.

Do. not. want.

It might be okay-looking by last-gen standards, but the games using it can mostly thank their great artstyles for that. For a current-gen game though it is not even NEAR something like Unreal 4 or the latest Cryengine in terms of visual fidelity or performance. I finished Wolfenstein on PC and I've played games years ago that already looked way more impressive than what is on display in that game. Since it got a PS4 release too I doubt I'll be impressed by what id Tech 5 can do even if they drop the 360 and PS3 as main platforms.

The problem basically is that it will look and play like a cross-gen game even without a release on last-gen consoles.

What? I thought it is using cryengine.

It should. Id tech is a fucking joke. OpenGL, awful performance, and massive bugs with the megatexture tech.
They put all this work into to megatextures, but it's not worth it on any level. They just get completely blown away compared to UE4 and CryEngine.

It's a nice engine for big outdoors areas like Rage but it looks like absolute garbage up close, which would be a problem in a game like Dishonored.

Also, has there even been an id tech 5 game with dynamic lighting? Environments and objects looked pre baked due to its absence in both Rage and W:TNO.

Now I can't get it confirmed or denied, but i have been told that it is very unlikely to be shown at gamescom. Apparently Bethesda wants to focus on Doom, Battlecry, Evil Within and Elder Scrolls Online first.

But don't take my word for it! It may be there,it may not be.

Unless they've majorly rebuilt the thing, idtech5 has major issues with large surface areas, so they would have to make Dishonored 2 notably less open than even the first game.

Now, that's fine if you're making a corridor shooter, but bad if you're not.

I feel it would be unfortunate if they removed the multiple paths/solutions element from Dishonored.

IdTech5 did get some improvements in the new Wolfenstein. First Dishonored game still has much better lighting (UE3). Also, texture resolution in Wolfenstein was still quite low even though is not a open world game like Rage.

Rage was a fairly large open world game. I don't understand what you're saying. It seems like it would be an excellent engine for Dishonored 2.

Kill it altogether if they went that route.

Wolfenstein had fairly large areas at times and it wasn't terrible.
