I was blown away at the start but the more I get frustrated with the shortcomings in the game and other issues the more the allure wears off.
I think a part of this eventual wear-and-tear comes from the content cap in the game. I feel that by repeating the same tasks out of necessity that we otherwise wouldn't have, we start getting very frustrated with things we otherwise wouldn't have.

At least with myself, the high I hit at the start of the game and during my exploration of the new content didn't start to waver until I hit the level cap, completed everything there was to do at the time, and started running out of new loot to obtain (at least, started to continuously get repeat loot and upper level loot. I could be very unlucky and am just missing a reservoir of random loot I haven't received yet).

I feel that in the full game, always doing new things, gaining new levels, sub-focuses and abilities, and especially always being able to obtain new usable loot, will help fend off that wavering period.

Unless of course your issues are with the game-design and fundamentals, in which case everything I just listed won't improve the game, unfortunately.

Well yes, this is true, but to say that "playing the objective" is more important that "getting kills" in Control is also a misinterpretation of the gametype. Both are important, but you aren't going to win by capturing the zones all by yourself.

That's true as well. You won't win solo-ing the zones. But in fairness, I do think that MuseManMike was onto something. He's wrong that it's an objective gametype. It's not, it's a hybrid. But he's right that there probably should be a slight increase to the points you get from a capture. If you kill one, three, five dudes, your team gets those points and that's it (maybe some assist points if they're lucky). If you capture a point (even solo), your team gets the points from the capture, as well as the bonus modifier added to all their future kills. Even more important, you are taking that bonus away from the other team. Kills are vital, but captured zones are what add the value to the kill.

Mainly, I'm concerned with the dumb teammates I've run into online who just blow past objectives to kill people. I've had rounds where my team has killed a crap-ton of the other team, but ended up losing because in the end, it's not how many kills you get, but how many kills you get with bonuses attached.

In PvP, does anyone else agree that your grenades cooldown should be reset? I kept assuming my grenade was available after respawning.

I'd rather have an ammo level for them (bolstered by ammo packs on the map like the other weapons), but if we're going for a time re-gen, then I think how it is will work.

I think they're fine. The only thing they should change, is nerf ultimate abilities or completely disable them in PvP. Titan's stomp is too unbalanced and rage inducing.

Okay, thanks for the tips guys. I had no idea the walker was public event, I just assumed it was part of the mission. Guess I got frustrated for no reason...

And yeah, it does seem like I have some pretty crappy weapons. I've got some great armour though, but I'm just not lucking out on weapons. The current weapon I'm rocking only does 26 damage and I can only assume that's woeful for a level 4 player?

I think I might also knock down the difficulty to normal for the time being. Hard with crappy weapons probably wasn't the greatest idea.

Definitely try to complete all the story missions on the lower difficulties and then do some of the beacon missions in Explore mode to level up. You may also find better gear in the wild, or at least earn some Glimmer to buy some at The Tower. When you reach Level 6 I believe you'll also be able to pick up Bounties from The Tower, which will give you more Glimmer to buy things with.

The green Uncommon weapons are generally better than the white ones, but if you find one that you like and is working for you, keep it. I accidentally dismantled a really good sniper. The green one I have now gives me ammo if I shoot the crate, but it's not as stable as my other one and I'm losing a lot of kills I would have earned with the white one.

With most MMO and RPG type games, damage is relative. A big bad who takes forever to kill now may go down in seconds if you level up or equip better gear.

Yeah, the intro and opening levels were very strong, but it soon starts to drag as you become more and more frustrated by missions that can't be done solo, even though it clearly says the mission can be completed by 1 - 3 people.

They really need to balance the game more for those who won't always be playing with others.

Yeah, I think I'm probably going to do this too. Most of my friends are PC gamers only, but a few of them are buying an X1 for the MCC, so I might be able to convince them to pick up Destiny too...

I did every mission solo on my second character and not once did it become exceedingly difficult at all.
Also, maybe the problem is that you're playing this game alone? There hundreds of gaffers on every day, go fireteam up.

But I figured many opinions would change over time. People are just doing the same 4 missions over and over again, and exploring the same area without any progression past level 8. No shit it's getting boring. I realize that's not a fault of the game though and the full game will have you playing, levelong, exploring and looting new stuff for a loooooong time. I can't wait.

I know what you're referring to there. Those enemies shouldn't bother you as long as you don't initiate contact. Just jump onto the pipe that you need to in order to scout the location and wait for it to reach 100%.

See, this isn't immediately apparent. I thought you had to take down the walker as part of the mission. I think making it more apparent it's not vital to completing that mission should be better laid out. I was running around that area doing 13 damage to its legs thinking this is going to take hours...and that was when I was able to just focus on the walker, I had captains, dregs, valmears(?) swarming as well, which made it all the more frustrating.

It was insane.

I can understand what you mean if you're fighting them at Level 4. That wouldn't be fun given that they're much more powerful. But if you're L8 then you should shred them without any issues.

I think this is where my Borderlands side is coming through. I would routinely go up against enemies that were stronger and slowly wear them down, that doesn't seem as viable a strategy here as the knights especially have some great AI and don't just stand around absorbing hits.

Again, thanks for all the tips. Will dive back into the beta later today and put them use.

Yeah, I found a few green armour picks up, which is why I'm rocking a good armour set, but I haven't found any powerful green weapons yet. I did find a sniper rifle as my secondary weapon, it's great, but it's not exactly the most powerful nor it is the most useful weapon.

I did every mission solo on my second character and not once did it become exceedingly difficult at all.

Honestly, it was mainly that public event with the walker that really started to frustrate me. I was having a blast playing solo or with the occasional random before that. And when I had enough of dying during that event, I decided to leg it only to run into a group of level 8/9 knights who proceeded to destroy me multiple times.

Those two moments in quick succession really made frustrating. I think I'll focus on levelling up on normal for now, get some decent weapons and then hit the missions on hard.

I see where you guys are coming from. I often end up in those matches as well (especially on Shores of Time), so I'd also be for anything that rewarded the individual who contributes greatly to the score. I actually meant to upload a clip of just that. I went on a 5-streak while capturing B on Shores of Time to bring us back from a loss at the end. Posted the screenshot earlier too:

Moments like that are why I like Crucible so much. Bungie's got a lot of work ahead of them and I don't think they'll be able to get to it all in time before the full game releases. I expect that we'll see constant patches to the multiplayer balance especially to get things working just right. But I enjoy it tremendously as it is and I don't think it's going to have any trouble standing on its own alongside the PvE experience. I'd say Bungie has put more effort into it than some of their previous multiplayer games.

Of course, as I've mentioned in this thread several times, it could just be the novelty rubbing off on me, and that's what I'm afraid of. I've been frustrated too, but the insanely entertaining moments vastly outnumber those frustrations even when I'm playing alone. I just hope those numbers don't switch this fall.

Where you find the pike guys at? I have not once ran into them.

In Dry Sea area, raiding party of pike-driving enemies will appear from time to time. Just snipe one driver, and you can hop in into the pike. Their weapons are CRAZY STRONG.

Ok maybe its very obvious but I for the life of me can't figure this out:

So what are the limitations of the beta?

  • So lvl 8 is the max you can get?
  • The 5 mission in old Russia are the only sp/co-op missions in the beta?
  • Can you sell weapons?
  • If you discard items you get credits or are they just gone?
  • Vault are not unusable in the beta I assume?
  • Can you change the look of your char in the beta? Will you be able to in the full game?

Maybe I have some more but that is what I can think of for right now.

Question:

Anyone else getting frequent lost connections and kicked.out of the game world errors?

Yes, to the point where I can barely play Crucible. I've completed a total of 4 matches, and tried dozens. I've even kicked out of solo story missions.

It seems to be a pretty common issue. On the Destiny Beta Help forums, the topic of getting disconnected/returned to orbit is pretty damn frequent: http://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Topics/0/Popularity/None/Help

My only guess is the fact that we know the Beta is a server stress test - otherwise, if this is representative of what we're getting September, we're getting a straight up broken game.

My biggest issues with PvP:

  • Auto Rifles are ridiculously powerful. The GALAHAD in particular.
  • Fusion Rifles are also insane, although I've seen a lot less of them today than I did yesterday.
  • Pulse Rifles and Hand Cannons are a bit underpowered, at least relative to the Scout and Auto rifles.
  • Titan and Warlock invulnerability during Supers should be removed and Fist of Havok needs a slight delay so they aren't guaranteed insta-kills every single time you use them. Wouldn't mind seeing a slower projectile for Golden Gun either but it's otherwise well balanced.
  • Interceptor rockets could do with a slight charge time and a light (for both the player and the opponent) so you know which rocket is going to fire.
  • Shores of Time has really predictable spawns. I've gotten several spawn kills at A just by looking down the door with a Sniper.
  • Orbs of Light could also be scaled down, or even removed to make Supers less frequent. A team of Warlocks novabombs what seems like twice a minute.
  • Hit detection is wonky. People will die a full second after you've melee'd or sniped them in the face. I've wasted a Golden Gun shot several times thinking the guy didn't die, but it was just lagging behind.
  • Sometimes the audio will cut out and I wont hear half of the sound effects, including fire from the enemies.
  • Moon needs less weighting, especially in the Iron Banner Tournament. Feels like it shows up every other game and sticks around for two matches. I think Crucible needs a menu where players select their preferred maps, and that increases their weighting for the person or fireteam.
  • Aim assist should be toned down.

Will add more if I think of any.

[*]So lvl 8 is the max you can get
?

Yes. Level cap in the full game is apparently level 20

[*]The 5 mission in old Russia are the only sp/co-op missions in the beta?

Yes.

[*]Can you sell weapons?

No, but you can dismantle them for a paltry amount of glimmer and an occasional crafting material

[*]If you discard items you get credits or are they just gone?

I assume you mean dismantle, see above. They are gone after you dismantle them.

[*]Vault are not unusable in the beta I assume?

Vaults work to exchange items between your characters.

[*]Can you change the look of your char in the beta? Will you be able to in the full game?

Not after you ended the character creator, we don't know if there will be ways to change it in the full game.

Well, that is good that I am not the only one.

And that is bad, seeing as how I am not the only one.

LOL

I seriously hope it is a beta thing and they get it straightened out.

When did they mention that things would transfer to the final game. I think that info is wrong sir.

Wait, has it been confirmed that shit will carry over to the retail game?

I was hoping for a clean slate. Bummer.

They are not invulnerable. Titan can upgrade their armor during Fist of Havoc, but they can still be killed. I've been killed several times during my Super. Especially when I decide to make a huge jump before it.

Whoa, they confirmed that the stuff we collect will be transferred?

It may have been the hit detection then. I've not been able to kill a Titan during the animation (even with a point blank rocket), but I've seen them die after landing. As for the nova bomb, forget it. That thing is pretty much a guaranteed multi kill and I shake my head when somebody wastes it on me when I round a corner.

When was UT confirmed that our stuff would transfer?

Far too much conflicting info on what will and won't transfer.

I thought the only thing confirmed to transfer was the reward we can get on the 26th.

Full game definately needs a barber or such merchant where you can change hairstyles.

I picked a wrong hairstyle and my guy kinda looks like a douche.

Yes I think it's due to the latency. When you see the Titan go into the air on your screen he has probably already landed the attack on his screen. That's why you trade kills so often.

Most Titans and Warlocks seem to use their Supers as a panic button. I know that I do in some cases, just to get my killstreak going. But it's worth it to save them for those occasions where you see a full enemy team capping a flag.

Can't agree with this more. I wanted to change my hairstyle so bad that I made a new character yesterday and almost leveled her up as a replacement.

They need more diverse hairstyles too. I'm hoping that they've withheld most of them for the alpha and the beta and it will be very disappointing if the full game doesn't have a wealth of customization options (and a character rotation).

That's the one thing I don't like about the way they're used. The Golden Gun needs to be activated from cover when you're near enemies (which requires foresight) and then aimed. The others are just kinda "Oh, I don't want to die now so press button to get out of jail". They're amazing when used as crowd control or to take down a vehicle, but whenever I run into somebody in a hallway and he hulk smash my face, I can't help but let out a big sigh. He just wasted an amazing ability on one dude instead of picking up heavy ammo or throwing his grenade.

Has anyone managed to kill that Fallen guy in The Dry Sea during the "dynamic event"?

I've attempted to do so 3-4 times now with lots of people but he always manages to escape. His shield is so damn powerful.

So I just found out I had unlocked the nova bomb ability.

Haven't used it yet, but for those who have, how powerful it is? Should I keep it in reserve for encounters against captains and knights or spam it much as I've been spamming vortex grenade?

Yes, with 4 random people helping me.

It's currently the most devastating super. Use it against a crowd of enemies for maximum effectiveness.
