The Last of Us PS4 remaster - direct screengrabs *spoilers*

It clearly doesn't look that much better. It honestly doesn't look like much work or love has gone into this port. Simply moving it to the ps4 with minimal effort should give you room for higher res/fps.

I guess I'm just used to pc games where more powerful hardware automatically upgrades (remasters) your entire library in regards to res, FPS, and other effects.

Their refusal to show the game or post a comparison video a mere week before release shows how proud they are of their work.

Just for reference I do have the game preordered and paid off.

You should really be asking questions.

They look pretty much the same.

Not at all to me bro. Everything looks touched up and cleaned. Better shadows. 1080p 60 fps. To each his own I guess.

Seems like some of you were expecting this to look like a PS4 game. It's a PS3 game remastered. Aside from the trolls it seems a few people hyped up their expectations.

ND told us exactly what to expect.

More jaggies than I expected in some of those shots but otherwise it looks good to me. Can't wait to play it since I never finished the PS3 version.

Don't cut yourself on that railing.

People really need to get their memory back, I'm really amazed how people seriously can't see any difference, IQ was horrible on PS3 (not including the prologue) and 1080P with better textures and AA will make a huge difference alone.

Yeah, I agree. Even multiplatform games where the consoles were clearly the led platform looked far better on the PC. If it was a PS3 -> PC (last gen) difference, I would have been satisfied.

Supporting a product you think is lazy. Why?

We all know you're just trolling. I've quoted you. Everyone knows.

People say that every time someone posting a capture from the PS3 version, maybe you don't remember it correctly or you sat far away from your TV but the IQ in this game was horrible on the PS3.

I played it on my 24" monitor, which is pretty close to my face.

Also,

This is what the PS3 version looked like.

Funny, isn't it ;)
There are much more comments like this here.
You can spot them immediately.

I edited to be a bit less pokey. I don't recognize the guy and don't want to assume, then end up looking like a dick. Which I am, of course. ;)

Was TLoU multiplatform? Do you even understand why that makes a difference, or are you just really excited to voice your concern?

People seem to confuse a remaster (essentially a port) with remake. Check out some music album remaster and compare it to the original release.

I don't get how anyone can be disappointed, what the hell did people expect?

What I don't get is people suddenly shitting on the PS3 version. People and reviewers weren't saying it was a mess a year ago. It's good for the hardware it's on

The arguments in these threads are always hilarious.

i can clearly see the difference but it isn't as amazing as people make it out to be, now playing at 60fps compared to that crappy ps3 fps thats a different story.

I've noticed a pattern where when comparisons are shown for a game running on PS360 and X1/PS4 before it comes out, everyone (lots of people) complains about how they look the same and after it comes out everyone raves about how much better it looks on the new hardware. Maybe I'm just imagining things but I'm pretty sure this has happened with every single game thats come out on both gens of hardware.

Such a lazy remaster, I expected 4k resolution and Morpheus support.

I can't wait to play this game again!

Question: How many Gaffers Gaf on their mobile phones?

I always wonder if the praise of tiny compressed gifs, and the flogging of full resolution images tends to come to one simple fact.

If you think leading on consoles means they made the PC version with consoles assets and tech your kidding your self .

Not sure why people thought the different would be huge. This is basically what the game would have looked like on PC.

Don't cut yourself on that railing.

It still looks frigin' amazing to me though. I'm seeing two things in these TLOUR threads (not necessarily you):

People taking the opportunity to shit on the PS3 version
People taking the opportunity to shit on a 'remaster'.

Shouldn't we at least strive for something like the Metro Bundle? Or the Master Chief Collection?

I'll bite. How do these 2 collections compare to TLOU:R at all?

1) These games have the benefit of being collections, multiple games in a series. There is only one TLOU but this remaster also includes all of the DLC. So what is your main issue here? price?

2) The metro games have visually impressive PC versions, so they already have a lot to work with in terms of bringing them over to current-gen consoles. TLOU was a PS3 exclusive, no PC version with better visuals exist, so even just porting it from PS3 to PS4 is a lot of work.

3) With the halo collection, 3 of those games are ports from last-gen consoles which will more than likely end up being a similar port job to TLOU on PS4 (1080p/60fps some new effects perhaps). The only real thing thats yet to be seen is how good Halo 2 will look, but even thats not fair to compare to the last of us because this is an original Xbox game, they have no choice but to remake. I'm also going to use this as a chance to predict that Halo 3 for xbox one is probably going to be a significantly lazier port job than TLOU:R. Now where TLOU can't compare to the halo collection is value I agree with you there. 4 games for $60 thats awesome, but again what can TLOU do about that? There's only one game and they are including all of the DLC

so when it comes down to it, is your main issue really price? Considering the game is only a year old and includes all of the DLC, I think $50 is quite fair

Yeah, but a scene like that is exactly where the remaster will shine. The trees should actually have discernible leaves and the grass won't be filled with broken glass.

Not sure why people thought the different would be huge. This is basically what the game would have looked like on PC.

It would have looked much better if was it made with a PC in mind since they would have more engine options and would just rip them out \ lower them for the consoles version .

That's one question, the other question is do you buy games based on effort?

If you do, that must be some huge Ubisoft collection.

You don't get to make the call that Naughty Dog (or Sony) is objectively not fucking anyone over with the pricing of their port. So don't use that false equivalence horse hockey.
But you do? I need to know for the future who the arbiter of fucking is.

False equivalence, come back when you can take your own advice.

In case you need it spelled out (and I suspect you do), ND hasn't fucked anyone over, let alone in "terrifying fashion."

Please, tell me how they've stolen your wallet and forced you to buy a game that is just as described at the time of announcement.
And people who are disgusted by EA's profitable anti-consumer business practices don't have to buy EA's products either. But they can show their disgust towards it. And they should! That stuff can set a bad precedent for other companies to follow until it results in a new horrible anti-consumer trend that affects many of the franchises we love.

but those people shouldn't have a blind spot where "their team" is, they shouldn't at one moment be swinging the flag of consumer rights and then the next moment talk about "the market dictates this is okay!" because now "their team" might be doing something disagreeable.

I'm not concerned. I didn't expect ND to completely recreate the game. I was not expecting U4 levels of detail. It's essentially a blu ray if an old DVD.

If it's not worth 50$ to you than don't buy it.

WTF are you even talking about, Captain Consumer Rights?

I don't get the defenders argument that "it was never more than a port". All of the HD remakes last gen had significant upgrades. Tomb Raider was a big improvement. Halo MCC is a huge value as well. If TLOU were around $30 then it wouldn't be an issue, but this is hardly a bargain at $50...and hopefully doesn't set an acceptable precedent for work going into next gen ports/rereleases.

I hadn't thought of it that way, but you do have a point.
