Unreal Tournament (4) first map revealed

This is work-in-progress and they hope to have a variety of tilesets in the final.

Modes:
- Game will first launch with Team Deathmatch (and presumably regular Deathmatch?), with CTF and Onslaught coming later

Man UT is probably my favorite online shooter. Spent so much time playing all the UT's growing up. I hope this eventually comes to consoles so I don't have to build a PC just for this game...

I'm more interested in the character redesigns, as they don't resemble the large armor-clad characters of the past, at least not at this stage.

Orgasmic visual design that should allow enemy combatants read well against the environment in fast-paced combat. Most excellent.
 
Twitch shooters are hands-down the most enjoyable. Give me this and the Plasma Gun, and all will be well.

No more roided, muscle bound models.

This was one of the best parts of Unreal Tournament - it was a blast seeing those monstrosities explode with a well-timed shot.

Yeah the art director was noting they wanted to make it more readable than previous games in terms of the both the levels and the color scheme/design on the characters.

If you watch the video, this isn't really "the first map" it's essentially a piece of concept art built on top of one of the early map layouts.

Thank goodness. I remember how iconic CTF-Face was, and when I first loaded up the UTK3 version, it was like "this map looks wayyy too busy".

Hell yeah! Doesn't look like they're half assing it. This could be so damn good. Couldn't get into Shootmania, don't like COD-alikes, don't want Halo on console, this is the most Iv'e been excited for a competitive FPS in years. A decade, really.

Bring on the Facing Worlds tho.

holy shit this looks great. I love what he said about visual clarity and characters popping out. UT3 always looked to busy for me.
 
I encourage you guys to follow the Unreal Tournament forums to check up on the game, there are a lot of developments and discussion going on, WIP maps and concept arts. Also a good way to make your concerns heard, the developers read the forums.

The graphics look fantastic, but more importantly readable. I hope to see more dirty industrial maps too.
