What if I just like rainbows

thats transgender, not gay. the design choice is not convincing enough, there shouldn't be a product like this in the first place. it can only make gay men feel even more separated/uncomfortable than the rest of community. a gay man should be treated like a straight man and vice versa.
Lesbians are not gay?

He means lesbians, who ARE gay, and female at that.

I think that kind of adds more power to this specific naming convention. It shouldn't be an insult to begin with so this is taking that word and making something good out of it.

Yeah, I agree. Maybe they got this idea, that "gaystation" was popular insult that it shouldn't be.

Nice to see the change. Bet the haters can depress themselves ever more.

Wow, nice.

But it's actually Sony haters' favourite word from last gen.

That name has been used by haters since the early days of the PS1.

I have to admit I find it funny that they are calling it that as it's been a derogatory nickname for the brand for so long.

edit: what i am trying to say is that the product is generalizing something that not every gay man is interested in, that all.

Well I already explained the reasons for the aesthetic choices made in designing the console, so I don't really understand why it matters that some gay men or women won't like it. Some gay men or women don't think custom Halo Xboxes look good, that doesn't mean they shouldn't exist.

And I don't understand the separation argument, it's not like someone using this console will automatically have "GAY" appended to their games tag online.

Yeah I think that's the brilliant part. The name is an insult when it has no real reason to be and they're kind of taking it and using it for something positive.

This is the first time I've seen it as HBTQ, instead of some variant of LGBT. I have to say that I prefer it since it encompasses more with fewer letters.

That's an awesome looking PS4 and I would love to have it under my TV.

I don't want to live in a world with no Pride.

So you'd prefer a world with inequalities?

Or is it the word pride? In that case, I guess let me semi-quote the late George Carlin: "To me, pride should be reserved for something you achieved or attained on your own. Being irish isn't a skill. It's a fucking genetic accident".

Gay pride exists for the purposes of solidarity in a society that can be unkind and not very accepting. Like you said in your post, in an ideal world we could all be happy with who we are and there wouldn't be any problems, but the world is far from ideal.

In your defense, sometimes there does seem to be a bit of a distinction. After all is it called LBGT movement and not just BGT movement.
Yeah, I honestly do not know the accepted answer for that, and my roommate was the head of a Pride alliance for a while in school. It's LBGT instead of BGT, and I perhaps ignorantly thought "gay" was for men and "lesbian" was for women -- but is "gay" preferred as a term for both? Is "lesbian" offensive?

I like the design. I think the heart works too, it would be a little too plain without that focal point (not that a console has to stand out, but I assume that's the intention here).

Why can't Sony hire these folks to design the special edition PS4s, instead of whoever
does those tacky black/gold ones.

Nice design. And well done for reclaiming an insult.

Also, well done for Sony's design team - even if they didn't have this in mind when they were making prototypes. Their minimalist flat black obelisk design means that alternate paintjobs can look cool without having to compromise themselves to fit around buttons, grills, etc.

As a heterosexual male, I find this console great looking (minus the heart). I've always been wondering, is colorful stuff really a gay thing or is that some stupid bullshit that idiots in marketing departments come up with because it fits some sort of a gay stereotype?

Not a stereotype, the rainbow flag with a specific set of colors in a particular order is a widely recognized LGBT symbol.

Black Playstation, and Gay Playstation already available... but the White Playstation is been held back for months. Goddamn console privileges

I like the design but i think that Sony went too far with "Gaystation" and "#forthegaygamers", imo "PS4 gay pride edition" or something similar would have been enough.

This is just the Pride Festival in Stockholm and a local retailer working together. Sony is not part of it afaik.

That is one sweet PS4. Currently the price is at about $2000, which is ridiculously high, but it looks great.

First, those names were likely chosen by Webhallen, not Sony. Second, in what way do you think they are going "too far" with the names? IMO, those names are really cool.

Ok, my bad.
I don't know how to explain why i think they are too far but if the Pride Festival chose them then it's ok i guess.

Maybe we should add some back story to this.

RFSL:

It's an organisation that works for the the rights of LGBTQ
Is actually one of the oldest rights organizations in the world.
They started working for gender neutral marriage in the late 50s.
They have around 33 locals just in Sweden.
About 6000 members, on paper. Many more are there in "spirit".
They offer education, parties and other social activities to bridge the gap between all people.
They offer support to those that need it. Especially younger people.*
They are all mostly "just" for the LGBTQ community but they don't turn away anyway that just needs to talk and find some sort of comfort.

All around an awsome organisation that took this chance to be seen in the spotlight so those that perhaps need a helping hand, be it just talking or dealing with perhaps a new situation knows that they are there for them. No matter where in life you are.

Just a personal story, not adding anything really but just wanted to tell a little story about how awesome they can be.
*
*Remember back in the 90s when a friend got kicked out from home, yepp his dad didn't like the idea of his son being a Fikus(Ficus in English and slang for homosexuals). Being a student without a home and being "hated" by his parents and society being even more backwaters back then made it hard as fuck for him. He lived with me for about 2 months before we found out about this organisation that actually helped "kids" like him. They got him set up with a company that offered him a part time job that was actually tailed around his studies and set him up in a small apartment where the landlord was gay as well and could act as support.

Yepp, FUCKING awesome. I don't remember if it was RFSL or if it was RFSU or another organisation but I still remember how it was one of the first authorities that helped a friend without being assholes and stomping him into the ground.

PS. He now has a little boutique with his life partner, they are still Swedish and think marriage is silly :D, and we still talk from time to time when he isn't pissed at me for belittling his taste in Whisky :D
