4.6 million people played Destiny's beta

it was free and is not like there are that many games to play on those consoles at the time.

impressive numbers but it does seem like expected being that anyone that has an xbox one or ps4 will have internet and the beta was easy to access.

We can wait until September NPD to see if your post has merit or not :p.

It sure did. I never once had a problem or disconnect. PvE ran without a hitch and PvP games had pretty good netcode. Can't wait to get the full game. Might be the only game I buy this fall

Was considering starting a thread discussing this very thing - have Bungie finally mastered the massively online launch? Where so many have stumbled? - but we have a lot of Destiny threads and thought better of it.

If they pull it off that will be amazing though. I had zero issues with the beta other than some mic cutout on that last day, and some longer load screens.

I have destiny preordered I am not saying it will not sell I am just saying nowadays is so easy to be part of an open beta as destiny one was that i do not see those number so impressive.

And my comment on the games is that i feel like there is some need for new games on ps4 and xbox one right now so anything that feels fresh will make a lot of people pick interest and try it.

I am expecting similar numbers by other betas if they would follow the same open approach that destiny did.

COME ON MAYNE.

Name me one game in September, no, in fact this year that has the potential to be bigger than destiny....

if this is the numbers for the beta then my lord actual sales going to be NUTS.....

I would say this will sell more than Call Of Duty this year.

It will sell well. It probably won't touch CoD numbers.

Played a solid two hours.

It's probably one of the best FPS I played in years, as I already said in the Beta OT, it will be the first FPS I'll spend tons of hours in since CS.

Impressive but considering the talk around the internet after the beta one has to wonder how many of those 4.6 million are keeping their pre-orders.

I know I am, but I've heard a lot of people say they thought it was meh.

Wonder how many of those still played on last-gen (and how many people played it on all their consoles and hence got counted multiple times).

Says "unique players", that should mean unique bungie accounts, I played on PS4 and PS3, it's the same account as it's tied to your PSN (or XBL)

Relatively speaking, for that many people playing this was still a fairly stable beta for me. Outside of a handful of disconnect issues the experience was relatively smooth through my entire time with the beta.

Talk around the internet? Are you trying to imply that the feedback was largely negative? Based on what, some Gaf threads?

I imagine Respawn/EA will be looking at these numbers and whatever consequences this game has with Titanfall and its sequel.

I wanted to dominate the living room. Then I took an ESRAM in the knee.

To add to that: the funny thing is that, although there were some negative threads about the game here, the OTs pretty much exploded with participation and anticipation.

If I had to guess, I'd say Halo 3, as that game's beta is the only reason anybody played Crackdown.

If that's the case, then I wonder why they went with "biggest beta of this gen" and not "biggest beta ever." I was thinking it was either Uncharted 3 or Halo 3, but neither of those even broke 2 million.

I don't know how much the rest of you know about Gamer culture (I'm an expert), but multiple areas per world is a huge part of it.

I've had a couple of people in the last few days ask me about Destiny that don't play games at all. I guess it pops up on Facebook a lot cause I liked it. It's gonna do VERY well. My only concern is lag.

PvE wise I didn't notice much lag at all. Just from viewing the PVP segments on youtube it seems to be more an issue there though.

Whoa.

Considering the number of players, the lag in Crucible was actually not bad. This game will be huge.

Hahaha, are you serious? Gaf raging on about something that we can only speculate about is not going to sway anyone.

5 guys at work have said since day 1 I won't buy a new console until Destiny.

Well all 5 of them bought PS4s last month and played the shit out of the Destiny Beta. These guys aren't huge gamers.

Halo is pretty much their choice of game when it releases.

All 5 of them have the limited edition pre ordered.

I know this doesn't mean anything really but this game is going to be so so huge.
