Films obviously require some suspension of disbelief.

Many also diverge from reality and have their own internal rules of operating.

This thread is to point out things that just can't be massaged away. You can love or hate the movie but try not to just post a bunch of nitpicks to shit on something.

Spoilers.

1. Jurassic Park. During the T-Rex jeep attack, how does the Rex just step out of the enclosure on the outside yet push the jeep into an at least 50 feet chasm on the inside?

2. Man of Steel. Zod's imprisonment and release. How come Zod and his male soldiers show obvious visible aging with grey hair, yet Faora and the other ladies still look delicious as summer Barbecue even though 30 years has passed for all involved?

Maybe they have genes like Cher.

LOL HOW COULD BATMAN GET BACK INTO GOTHAM. HE'S JUST BATMAN.

This was the one that pissed me off the most from gaf when the movie came out and I didn't consider it a plot hole at all.

The Matrix-Humans wouldn't make great batteries

Pacific Rim-Jaegers wouldn't be able to support their own weight

Godzilla(1998)-How do you lose track of a giant lizard several times?!

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory-Everlasting Gobstoppers only last for about a few hours

Doctor Who-Towing the Earth back to its orbit would have killed everyone on the surface instead of causing mild earthquakes.

Fast Five-That runway was impossibly long and getting into a car shouldn't allow you to walk out of a plane/car crash with barely any scratches.

The Last of Us-Cordyceps fungi only infect insects.

Iron Man-As thin as those metal gloves are, how do the gloves have enough insulation to keep the thrusters from burning holes into his hands.

Catwoman-The FDA would have stopped that makeup from ever being released if it melts your face. Also, zombie cat ladies or something...

Twister: Tying yourself with leather belts to a couple of pipes that are 15 feet into the ground will not prevent you from being sucked up by an F5 tornado that's right on top of you.

Speed: They drive for hours at 55 mph and above and never once worry about running out of gas. Also, they would not have managed that bridge jump and still maintain that speed. Ka-boom, hot shot.

Anchorman 2: Literally shits the bed in the last 20 minutes. Everything in that scene, after having been grounded in reality for most of the movie, is absurd.

In the first Shrek movie, the end has all the characters gathered around for the closing credits. Even though it's a cartoon and has an ogre as the lead, I couldn't get past the fact when they all blew up some balloons from their own lungs, the balloons floated away. I wrote the series off at that point.

Sadly for some simple folk, not explaining every details is a plot hole.
I think it has a connection with how a lot of younger people these days want everything spelt out for them and if you don’t it is either a plot hole or the film/show/game is shit. Its why we get trailers for movies that give the whole plot away, because these people wouldn’t bother going to see a film unless they know the whole plot from the start.

Makes me sad to think what future generations are going to be like when it comes to having patients, logical thinking and just a general interest in being told a story, rather than just watching/playing it.
The Last of Us-Cordyceps fungi only infect insects.
I don't think that really counts because the whole story was that it mutated and become transferable to humans

Reality is 60fps. I broke all the movies.

Reality is not a tv/monitor and does not have a refresh rate.

Sixth Sense - Bruce doesn't need eat, drink, shit, piss, touch anything, interact with anyone besides his wife for months and doesn't notice it.

How did Bruce Wayne hitch a ride with the airplane smugglers in The Dark Knight without them figuring out that he's Batman?

Giant robots don't worry me near as much as the inconsistency in water depth in pretty much every fight scene involving water.

As for TLoU, they get away with it because it "evolved" to infect humans, even though that is highly unlikely to ever happen based on the structure of the fungi alone.

Fixed that for you.

That's all part of the fun.

Back to the Future Part 2 - When biff steals the book and goes back in time to give himself it wouldn't he travel back into a new timeline? How is it that he goes back in time to the exact same timeline but when Marty and Doc go back they end up in the split timeline.

Batman and Robin-The bank wouldn't allow Batman to open a bank account, much less give him a credit card.

Back To The Future 2: Marty should be missing for 30 years by traveling into the future, not worried about running into himself.

The fact that he existed in the future meant that he was going to go back to his own timeline at some point, so the stakes of him dying in the past/future are actually pretty pointless. Since he always went back to his own time after the first and third movies, he was really only missing for a few hours at the most.

LOL I know that’s how it comes across (Even though im only 29) but it really is sad that it seems new generations have no patients for story.

As an anecdotal example, my 15 year old cousin in law pretty much never watches a games cut scenes and will instead just skip them and then complain about not knowing what to do or what's going on. Same with films, he just half pays attention and then wonders why he missed vital details that explain any problems he may have had with the story etc.

Im all for new stories representing younger generations etc., you can't always tailor it to the older generations but I just worry that it becomes his generations defining factor with entertainment mediums and thus will affect future media for all of us.

Although not a movie, nothing fills my mind with more fuck than 24. Nothing. I have to pretend that the show is an 80s action movie with Kiefer playing Arnold. That is the only way I can stand to watch the show.

Blinking.

so my eyes refresh rate is like .05 fps? I hardly blink at all

The Dark Knight Rises-The time of day is inconsistent during certain scenes.

Yeah like the wall street scene. It is broad daylight in the beginning, they break out of the place and it is still daylight. Somehow between them leaving the place and batman appearing, it is night time. Always found that odd. Takes a lot more time then 15 minutes for it to be broad daylight turned to pitch black night.

Every martial arts/action movie ever made that shows a character getting kicked in the head and keeps fighting. If a glancing blow from a UFC fighter is enough for a lights out, a full fledged kick would end any fight.

Hmm. I see your point, but does the present he returns to at the end of 3 jibe with the sorta miserable future he travels to in 2? It's been so long since I've seen 3 that I honestly don't remember.

In Toy Story, if Buzz Lightyear thinks he's the real Buzz Lightyear, then why does he play dead like all the other toys when Andy is in the room?

Fight Club.

The protagonist climbs into the car via the driver door and once the car crashes, Tyler Durden climbs out the passanger door.

Well, it's not really an impossibility, it's a cool little trick that Fincher put in to mess with the viewers.

That future was never meant to be written in stone (which is kind of the true impossible detail because what's going to happen in the future is going to happen even though you don't know what's going to happen). It was still altering itself based on what Marty would do. Without the experience in time travel that happened after, Marty would have never learned anything but the future was still working under the assumption that he would return to the past and the sorta bad future would have happened. They alter it by time traveling more to change the future even further so the sorta bad future is slightly less bad. Think of it as peeking at a summary of your life. All of the major details are still in place but minor details are still changing themselves.

Most movies involving time travel. Looper was especially bad about it.

If murder was so hard to get away with in the future, why did they just flat-out murder Bruce Willis' wife in their house in the middle of the day? If they could do that, why try to send Bruce Willis back in time to die at all? What's the point of closing your loop? Was there really no better way to retire?

Batman Begins - The police would have been aware of Scarecrow's fear toxin well in advanced because random people would have been freaking out the moment they took a hot shower or boiled water.

The Dark Knight - Joker's attack on Dents convoy, capture, and escape require him to know and plan for things that he in no way can possibly anticipate.

Spider-Man- there's no way to not be caught by the cops if your web slinging. Once they get the chopper following you, where are you gonna go? Keep swinging and they can keep following. Gonna change clothes randomly in a roof?

Mars Attacks-The Press Secretary has nowhere near enough influence to sneak ANYONE into the White House at any time, much less during what should have been lockdown due to the invasion.

Legion-Aside from the lady pregnant with the chosen one, there was no reason that anyone else in that diner should have been unaffected by the mass angel possession.

Tattoos - The New World, Assassin's Creed, any Pirate movie, etc.

European sailors didn't have tattoos until the latter 18th century.

Even if you forgo the fact that the timing of this thing is EXTREMELY comfortable, it's physically impossible for Batman to actually go out & buy the insane amounts of fuel, create the batsymbol in fuel, create a trail to where apparently Gordon will be for ome magical reason, have Gordon light it by accident and show the city the Bats has returned.

It would've been faster, easier, cheaper and more reliable to go buy a spotlight, mount it on a random building and shine a makeshift batsignal in the sky.
