BioShock 1 port coming to iPhone and iPad

Looks like crap, lower res and available only to recent ipads and iphones.

Doesn't look good for a game who is made for an almost 9 years old hw

Eh, it's sill pretty insane to me how fast mobile technology is moving. The original iPhone didn't launch THAT long ago and I would have never imagened playing Bioshock on it

Would you kindly touch me? Ooooh yes.

I'll probably end up buying it...

Edit: Wait, that's definitely not the retina resolution.

I play my vita everyday, this is heartbreaking

Looks like the 360 version.

Yeah, I was about to say that it doesn't seem all that dissimilar to the console versions from a graphics standpoint. I'd say it's closer to the PS3 version, though, with it being the inferior of the two.

That's just fucked up. Have an iPhone and an iPad but I would never want to play Bioshock of all things on them.

Being it to Vita. Everyone who owns the system would pick it up.

And they cancelled the Vita version. Even if it was a FFT clone.
How are you supposed to play this game without buttons anyway ?
Fuck 2K.

I.. Don't really get why, though? FPS are hard as shit to play on touch input. Even with a controller, the audio quality is gonna be awful, and that's a huge portion of the experience. I. Uh.

Whatever. Cool for those who really want it, I guess.

This is all very true, but, you're forgetting the only truly important part.

MONEY.

Would you kindly make an in app purchase?

It will play like garbage with touch screen controls like all FPS games on phones and tablets.

Just going off on mobile without reading anything in the OP, c'mon guys.

"Premium priced app" = 10-20 bucks, no in app purchases.

"Controller support" = don't play this with touch screen.

Seriously complain all you want but the fact that something that, 7 years ago needed a shoebox size machine to run is now about to play on something you can slip into your pocket.... That's pretty amazing.

I could see some hate if the NEXT Bioshock game was on mobile since this is not the ideal platform but why get mad about this?

I wonder if there will be a Lite version or a full version sized down. I don't know how I'd feel about a sized down BioShock 1. I have access to an already fully functional, aesthetically good looking port(s).

If you have one of those controller add-on thingies it could be neat I guess, but even as someone with no strong dislike of touch controls this isn't a game I would play with them. Graphics aren't quite there yet too.

Pretty interesting to see a relatively recent FPS ported to mobile devices though. This is the future of handhelds I guess, whether we like it or not. When they get a little bit more powerful and get actual decent controller support instead of the crap on the market right now there simply is no reason to make something like the Vita anymore (even though I love that piece of hardware).

"we had to make some minor changes to the graphical features due to limitations of the hardware," says senior producer Brian Lowe, "such as removing dynamic shadows, or changing the way fog is displayed."

of all things to cut shadows should have been the last on the list, they're just a big part of the look of the game, "minor", lol.

it's a minimum effort port. who wants to play this on 4inch iphone? should've focused on ipad instead and get the most out of it.

Usual mobile thread on gaf. Moaning about touch and what platform it isn't on.

As someone who has never played this and will be picking up a mfi controller soon, really looking forward to this.

Will probably pick up monster hunter ios soon, then this.

It's sad to see people take pleasure in dismissing what is generally considered a good game (though not without problems/faults etc) being released on an additional platform where more people can enjoy it, because their personal preferences prevent them from doing so.

When there is already a great portable gaming platform ignored by all third parties, I guess it's legit.

And don't tell me that the iPad or iPhone is great for that kind of game if you need to add an actual controller to make it playable.

Seems like another game that'd be a massive hassle to play without a controller. I've tried GTA 3 on my Nexus in the past and had to give up pretty early on as it was such a chore to play.

But really, who games on a iPad with a controller? Why not just get a real games console at that point? I doubt many people will take a controller out with them to play Bioshock on the go. Seems better suited to Vita or 3DS.

Not sure who this is for but it sounds like it intends to sell on brand. I don't think anything about this would make for a positive experience.

I wouldn't even care about a Vita port, but this still stings. I weep for handheld gaming and weep for the biggest lost potential of any gaming system ever. Still, indies keep Vita being the best option for handheld gaming so it's not all bad. Once PS4 gets a decent library and PS Now comes to Vita we'll have our AAA games too, so I guess I cant be too upset. An hey, Vita will probably get Bioshock in the form of PS Now.

- Makes fun of people complaining about touch
- Is going to play this with a controller

Anyway, I've beaten this a number of times on PC. I haven't had any luck playing FPS games with touch on my phone so I'll probably pass. Good on anyone that can do otherwise I guess - it's a good game.

There's no point in moaning. Traditional gamers have shown that they have no interest in a high-end handheld, western devs traditionally have no interest in dedicated handhelds of any stripe.

This game isn't coming to iOS instead of traditional handheld platforms. It's coming to iOS instead of a portable version not existing at all.

I don't even understand who buys these sort of games on mobile. Surely people realise it's going to play like shit? Do people just buy for the novelty? Just the wow this runs on my phone factor?
