The way these deals are structured doesn't the company paying for exclusivity usually have to take into account the projected lost sales from the game being exclusive to said platform?

Argh.

I'm pissed that I can't get anyone to acknowledge the textbook definition of subcontracting.
Well, in a way it is subcontracting. Microsoft have subcontracted Crystal Dynamics to be afflicted by selective amnesia which makes them forgot they were developing a previously multiplatform game on both PS4 and PC.

That's not how it works, the sales of delayed version are usually (always?) are not good. It will sell like shit in PS/PC platforms.

Yeah. Just look at all the hype PS4/PS4 for PVZ:Garden Warfare. For me if i get a game later i expect a lower price or more content to make up for that fact.

When Persona 4 Arena launched in Europe 1 year after US release. I said fuck that im not paying full price for a year old game.

Microsoft-die hards must really be mentally exhausted by now. First they have to defend EA Access and now they have to defend this. Not counting DRM and Kinect. We seriously need to cut them some slack and let them know we're their friends that we're on the same side and that they don't need to defend every single stupid ass move made by Microsoft and their partners.

To be fair, EA Access didn't really need defending.

Haha, what? What kind of world do you live in where paying $5 for access to Battlefield 4, FIFA 14, Madden 25, and Peggle 2 is a bad thing?

I already bought Peggle 2 and Battlefield 4 at launch, but even then paying $30 to "own" FIFA 14 and Madden 25 is a better deal than buying them straight up.

Well there may be some exceptions, like if the game gets critically acclaimed so the ported hardware owners would be still interested a few months later. (IIRC Mass Effect did decent on PS3, right?)

My point is while facially SE seems taking rather a safe route, they're actually taking more risky route for maximizing overall revenue...

The delayed game will sell worse than what it should have sold if it was not delayed, way worse. Decent sales are best case scenario, which are way worse than great sales.

yeah, unfortunately for me i was expecting a debate, not a pushover.

I have to go to bed, but I'm more than willing to carry on this discussion if you're so inclined. It's going to be about 7 or 8 hours before I respond though.

All this deal did was to reassure people that MS is the evil horse in this race.
They might as well bring back DRM full circle, you done fucked up.

Funny thing is, Tim Dog reads Gaf everyday. (Hi Tim Dog.) He wants so much to be a part of it and hates us for not loving him. Like his mother. I'm guessing. This is all conjecture but I have a Bachelor of Arts in Communication so I think I know a thing or two about subtext, people.

Wow @ the salt in here.. Really shows when people post "uncharted is better anyways". Keep on telling yourselves that. I don't even own a xbox one, but I'm not gonna throw a fit over MS securing a good game for next holiday. Good move for them

Kagari (mod and an insider) said SE didn't need MS help.

Really? Are there numbers for ME2/Oblivion/Bioshock and so on? I can't find any unfortunately :/ But I can see the initial buzz wearing off of course.

However I still think TR2 will sell significantly more on current gen than tr1 did on last gen despite or because of the exclusivity deal and the attached marketing/buzz which is already starting on here...

Yeah. Microsoft is literally the devil.

How evil of them to commit to their platform and offer their customers the very best exclusives they can. How fucking dare they spend money to benefit their customers.

Fuck you Microsoft you evil horse. I thought you we're selling off the brand, but instead your committing to it! I hate companies for supporting their products!

How are they benefiting their customers if they were already getting the game in the first place? You keep bringing up that argument, but it doesn't make sense, especially when they are alienating their own Windows PC customers in the process.

Maybe people mad about this are fan of both franchises? Or maybe a fan of TR?

It would be hilarious to see people's reactions if the deal was with sony instead

Bioshock numbers were pretty horrible on PS3 if I remember. Would imagine the same case for ME2 and Oblivion. Those AAA games that everyone loves being are incredibly front loaded and most people aren't interested in playing a game that releases a year later for still $60.

I can't believe people are defending this bullshit, i'm actually disgusted with every single person that is. MS would rather buy a game than make one, as an owner of an xbox one this feels like a double slap, not only do they fuck over many gamers, they dont get me a new game for the xbox one either. Banjo? Viva Pinata? a new IP?
As a console the xbox one is fine but the company behind it, I want them out of the games industry and I dont care if my opinion pisses anyone off, MS are a detriment to the games industry. I don't know who but I cant imagine many companies that could replace MS actually being so anti gamer and anti consumer.

As for SE, uhhhhhh, that company has been a shadow of it's former self for years, they were one of the best companies in the games industry and in the space of 1 gen are now laughing stocks.

MS isn't "buying a game"... that's the same misconception those promoting this are saying. MS is paying a company to not release a game on a competitor (and PC...).

As I mentioned the equivalent would be if Sony turned around and paid Rocksteady to not release Arkham Knight on Xbox One.

The next time SenjustsuSage tries to act all measured and impartial I'm gonna post any of his correspondences with Tim Dog on twitter. What a joke.

This doesn't benefit their customers at all though. Tomb Raider was always going to be released on the Xbox. What benefits are there, for Xbox customers, for preventing a release on other platforms?

I don't think Microsoft is evil or some stupid shit like that, but to say that this exclusivity arrangement is beneficial to customers is silly.
