Grand Theft Auto V - Coming for PS4, Xbox One and PC this Fall - Trailer

From the looks of GTAV running on PS4 in that trailer, I'd bet it's 30fps. Metro Redux is nowhere near the same as GTA on scale and complexity, so it's a silly comparison. The 360/PS3 versions of GTAV could run at 60fps, but Rockstar is upping the graphics.

It's not a silly comparison because both games are very CPU bound.
We're really pleased with the performance from the two consoles," Beynon explained. "We thought it would be 30fps as it's a very CPU-heavy game so we're quite pleased to get the [dev kits] in the studio and get it to 60fps."

I don't see what would prevent 60fps other than choices. But it seems the overwhelming majority of console gamers don't mind 30fps so Rockstar may be tempted not to spend the engineering effort to get GTA 5 up and running at 60.

I have nothing against a rock solid 30fps but...I really prefer 45+ and higher. It feels much, much smoother to me.
I'm far from being a 60-or-nothing kind of PC gamer but I'm cognizant of how framerate dramatically alter the experience for the better.

Very different games, very different engines.
I still genuinely believe it's possible for them to reach 60fps. Maybe they think it's not worth it and they will rather maximise the visual fidelity and settle for 30.

It's their call.

60fps is obviously possible but the game wasn't created from scratch for current-gen (they only had 1 year, maybe 1 year 1/2 to develop it for PS4/XBO/PC) and they prefer rock solid 30fps and a wonderful world.

This game will need a proper photomode now.

Join the revolution Rockstar.

This. Don't let PC games have all the fun. It should be a requirement in any game.

If there was ever a style of game that calls for compromises in framerate in favor of everything else 30fps can bring, it's open world games.

60fps with everything Rockstar wants to do would be a miracle on consoles. Like literally an act right out of the bible.

That is technically overclocking. And not really relevant to what I was saying.

Nope, all the cores are perfectly capable and spec'd of running that frequency 24/7. Base clock is misleading and irrelevant. Makes it sound like a Devil's Canyon has hardly anything over older CPUs.

Have no idea what you're talking about at this point. Base clock is not misleading nor irrelevant. And I expressed precisely what the difference between Devil's Canyon and the initial chips were. Bumping up all cores to run at the Turbo speed *is* a form of overclocking.

I feel you're just trying to argue for the sake of arguing or something.

Don't know whether it's noteworthy to bring this up, but I just checked gtaforums.com for a thread I made there the day after the PC/next-gen versions were announced.

It accumulated 400+ votes so far, and here are the results.

Mind this is only about the PC version. The thread was also only posted in the PC subforum so PS4/XBOXONE owners wouldn't vote by mistake.

I'm personally surprised by the rather high amount of PS3/X360 owners who will buy the PC version. And by that I mean: I'm surprised they didn't wait for the PC version when their PC is capable enough.
Personally, I have a PS3 Slim for some exclusives but never bought GTA V for it since I wanted the PC version to be my first and only experience with the world. I can't really look past the framedrops and object pop-in when I'm used to PC gaming...

Truth be told, I've trained my patience when it comes to games. I have developed the habit to only buy games when they drop to a certain very low price. That means waiting about 1 year after each game's release.
(In reality this is not really hard as long as you never run out of games to play, which has never happened here!)

2k has like 3 or 4 games coming out in October, really doubt they want to have those titles deal with the game. November is my bet.

Good thing that I never finished the ps3 version. Might just gonna buy the PC version and finish that instead. Can't wait for the mods too.

Kind of messed up, lol. When they announced GTA V originally we heard nothing for 8 months. If it takes that long again, kind of mean.

next person who posts in this thread without an official date(maybe a rumored date) needs to get banned to another dimension.

Not really. AC:Unity targets 1080p@60fps on current-gen. It's all about optimization and good game engineering. The next Red Dead will certainly be 1080p@60fps if they chose to target that.

AC:U reportedly doesn't even have a dynamic day/night cycle, nor does it have vehicles, and I doubt their physics system is even half as much of a hog as Euphoria supposedly is. Remains to be seen how complex the rest of that game world is, but Ubisoft couldn't even begin to touch Rockstar in that area until Watch_Dogs so I'm not totally optimistic on that front either.

There's optimization and there are miracles. I fully expect 30fps to be the standard for open world console games as it has always been. And if it's not, Rockstar will probably come back around with GTAVI and show everyone why it should be. Pushing for 60fps in these kinds of games over more density, physics, lighting, particles, background processes, dynamism, etc. would be a mistake.

Welcome to my ignore list, you have no idea what you're talking about as usual.

I think they'll keep it 30fps and go for cranked up effects/population. I don't think Rockstar would want to set a 60fps benchmark for the next GTA.

A delay would not be unheard of here... GTAV was announced to be delayed just before the "Spring" cycle was about to hit. The announcement came in early February, and GTAV was tagged for Spring 2013. This is mid-August and GTAV:HD is tagged for "Fall 2014" so... who knows.

GTA 5 for Xbox One and PS4 Will Blow You Away, Take-Two Says

The upcoming Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions of open-world action game Grand Theft Auto V will blow you away, according to Rockstar Games parent company Take-Two Interactive That's because, CEO Strauss Zelnick says in a new interview, "nothing but the very best will satisfy [developer] Rockstar Games."

"They want to blow consumers away," Zelnick told MCV. "Whatever the expectation is, they want to exceed it. When you see GTA V on next-gen, I want you to tell me whether it is or isn't better than your expectation. I can guarantee it will be better."

gave away the keys to the kingdom.
Ooh ooh! New information about GTA V?!

:(

(Disclaimer: I'm not singling you out but rather using your post as a springboard for a general point.)

When GTAV Redux has a release date, or R* releases details on what's different between it and GTAV PS360, a new thread will be made and discussion will shift to there. If you find entering this thread on a regular basis disappointing due to the lack of information, then just don't do it -- you won't be missing out of anything noteworthy. On the other hand, if you like to consume as much GTAV discussion as possible, then go right ahead. ;)
