1080p will come to Xbox One games, but at a cost

In my opinion, the Xbox One should be running ALL games at 1080p and 60fps. It should be a requirement. If your game doesn't run at 1080p and 60fps...go back to the drawing table.

I'm so sick and tired of the console getting mediocre graphics settings while the PC gets the luxury of tuning the game to fit the gamer's needs. Consoles should get the same treatment.

Sorry but this is complete no sense.

I'm sick of people whining and complaining about this crap. Just play the damn games!

It's really not that big of a deal.

If the hardware isn't as powerful it just isn't going to happen as often. And if you want the luxury of PC gaming, then build a PC.

You can not game the same quality hardware out of something that costs half as much.

Consoles should get the same treatment.

Then they wouldn't making consoles anymore just PCs. I don't think MS or Sony want to make something that people can tune. They will always have the control over what the hardware is supposed to do. Also that is just entering a market that they don't want to be in. Hell Sony just got out of the PC market when they got rid of the Viao brand.

Not only that devs that primarily develop for consoles only, feel safe making games on consoles as they only have to worry about the consoles restraints, not whether or not every one can play it on their specific console.

Are consoles PCs but restricted? Yeah but, that's what they are supposed to be.

EDIT: Side note, why are we still talking about Diablo 3? Seriously.

you know that 1080p don't make graphics good by default? chances are that if you want to go 1080p on xbone you have to lower details and textures

Not my PC, and certainly not my friends', which chocke running the most mundane games. This PC standard plateform is the joke of the forums. Most of the PC gaming population configurations are LESS powerful than either console, in fact.

Op, PC games don't have graphical options to give the player choice, they have them because of the range of hardware PCs have.

And yeah obviously 1080p takes extra gpu power to do, power that might be used on another effect or aa solution. Personally I want 1:1 pixel distribution before everything else these days.

There's room for games that focus on pure graphics versus IQ and framerate. If you're the type to get so annoyed by a low framerate or reduced resolution to make a thread on a videogame message board, you might want to look into a gaming PC so you don't have to compromise.

Well, no. You can't buy the budget Kia and have it feel like a Porsche, that's not how the world works.

That said, a game like Diablo III should definitely run 1080p/60fps on a current generation console that wants to compete on power, no excuses.

This makes no sense whatsoever. Do you have a Gaming PC? I mean honestly, of course PC gamers have the ability to tune their game to their liking! The PC platform has way more variables than consoles to adjust for.
On consoles everyone has the same GPU, on a PC that changes widely, some have 3 GPUs or whatnot it only makes sense to give people the option to make the game work best for their PC.

If frame rate and resolution are super important to you then buy a PC and upgrade it every six months. There's no point buying a console and getting all depressed about it. Enjoy games and stop stressing about the small stuff.

I don't get how people can think that getting 1080p / 60 fps is an easy thing to do. In order to get a higher frame rate, you need to scale back resources. ie, graphical settings decrease. Lower framerate = more likely higher graphical fidelity.

Just because technology is getting better doesn't mean that graphics are staying the same. They're also getting better, so it requires more power to develop better looking games.

Frankly, I'm perfectly fine with 1080p / 30fps. As long as the game is FUN, that's what should matter.

Consoles have always been about having an easy option, with PC mainly have that because there's so many configurations. Granted at this point we could stand to have a few toggles like Bioshock did though, but past that 1080p/60fps on ALL games is a bullshit requirement, and that's from someone who wants them to favor that... albeit within reason. Some games are just trying for something too ambitious or have too large of a scope, and aren't JUST linear games with the same gameplay as ever going for graphical pretties over smoother and sharper gameplay (like LBP3... though that really sounds more like a cross-gen issue.)

bish gets all the credit :)
Is this another insightful polygon article saying that increasing resolution will have an effect on framerate and assets?

It's going to be a long and difficult gen for you.

So the solution, to up the resolution and deal with the hit to frame rate from time to time, is imperfect. It's marketing, and the gamer that cares will read reports that discuss exactly what happened. The benefit of hitting these arbitrary targets is lost, and we still don't have a say in which way we'd like to play the game.
I rarely agree with Kuchera but he's right in this case. Imperfect solutions will make no difference to the people who care although I think in the case of Diablo 3 the framerate is pretty good for 1080p.

Same. I never understood why console games don't allow users to adjust the graphic settings to the their desire.

This gen seems to be making progress in this direction though with some games allowing you to lock/unlock the frame rate. Now we just need a resolution slider and console games would be perfect.

Diablo 3 runs smooth and looks stellar on my Xbox One. Not asking for more than that.

Only it doesn't. Not sure what the point of your post is here - there are frame rate issues when the game gets busy on the Xbox. They aren't huge, but they are there. That's the entire point of the article, and digital foundry are *very* good at what they do.

Re. The article, I'm just surprised to see something from Polygon critical of MS and supporting the playstation. It's an eminently sensible article (again which is unexpected!).

Is this for real or is this bait?

1080P/60FPS is a privilege not a right. It is a privlege granted by proper hardware and competent developers.

I am sometimes astonished at the things posted on GAF lately.

Joke or for real?

This is quite obviously false. You can reduce the settings of any game to run at 60 fps on the hardware the X-Box One is packing.
Some logic:

*wants a $400 console to perform and function like a PC*

*gets mad when PC gamers tell him to build a PC*
Jimmies Rustled.
