The characters are put into the game for exactly that reason though.
I said it was a possibility that more material would find its way online, I didn't say it was likely.

They are tossed in because they need to fill up space or they have enough time to throw in a couple clones but not enough time to make an entire new character.

I'd rather the empty space. Or even better, have them use all of the time they were going to use on the clones to give Ganondorf a new moveset. I'm sure the time spent on Toon Link, Falco, Lucina, Dr. Mario, and Dark Pit combined would have been enough.

What's the bloody point in having skins and customization special moves if you're just going to flood the game with clones?
Characters like Dr. Mario and Dark Pit should be skins for Mario and Pit, respectively, that have altered special moves. Because that's what they are. Captain Falcon should have had a Black Shadow skin with altered special moves, taking Ganondorf's moveset. And Ganondorf should have gotten the proper character treatment and a sword, goddammit.

He changed his Monado mode at least once during the footage. I can't recall which mode it was but a speed or evasion buff could make his moves twitchier.

Should have been priority number one. Why can't I play energy ball tennis as Ganondorf? A fully realized Ganondorf could be an awesome character.

Or maybe those are the best characters to have custom moves for because you can further differentiate the two source characters.

Why is this so hard to understand, they are skins, they were just given some tweaks and split out as their own character slot. They didn't magically take the place of whatever character you wanted in the roster and they weren't the reason ganondorf doesn't have a new moveset. It is something all fighting games and games with large rosters constantly employ because it's an easy way to get a few extra characters in there with less work. It is more rather than less

They are if they're Dark Pit and Dr. Mario.
Those guys would have to take as much work as Lucas and Wolf, and that's what disappoints me most.
Being very similar to the characters they're cloned from in physical characteristics (to reuse skeletons, animations, in some cases whole models) but with enough aesthetic and slight mechanical differences to still make for a unique playable character?
It's not like they sat down and said "No, I'm not feeling Ridley. Lets devote all the resources we would used on him to make Dark Pit." The reality is that time is limited and Dark Pit is a character they could add when they've got so much of Pit already finished that they can use as a base. They still have to put time into it, but it's not nearly as much as if they had made a whole new character from scratch.
Almost every fighting game has clones, of some sort. Time is limited and big rosters look good. Clones can still be fun and have enough supporters to have reasons to exist, just look at how many people preferred Dr. Mario in Melee when his gameplay differences exclusively came down to minutiae! Nobody's doing it to spite you, and nobody at Namco is thinking that there's really nothing else for Ganondorf to be doing but imitating Falcon. It's never a case of "Dr. Mario or K. Rool," it's "Dr. Mario or nothing".

This. Maybe the leak featured Ganondorf's "Falcon" default loadout, with more interesting optional moves.
Maybe it is like the coffee .... they export the good ones and we are left with the ones not worthy importing

I admit, Chorus Men sounds even crazier than Duck Hunt dog. I mean there are three of them. Or I'd assume there would be. But I'd also assume Bowser Jr. Wouldn't fight in a clown head so yeah.

Y'all remember that Luigi is a clone character too, right? In OG Smash he was almost identical to Mario and in Melee his only huge difference was his side smash. Ganondorf was easily just as different from Capt. Falcon as Luigi was from Mario, so why all the hate?
I'm majorly looking forward to seeing what Dr. Mario's moveset is like---if it's basically Melee Mario (Spinning down special, cape side special, same passive properties as Mario) then I'll be thrilled. Dark Pit could be interesting as long as at least one or two of his specials are different. The only clone I really have an issue with is Toon Link because he's almost identical to Link. If they gave Falco and Toon Link different final smashes and one totally different special each it would be perfect.

I saw three Monado arts being used during that bit of footage. Except, they aren't buffs like they are in the game, but "modes" that Shulk is cycling through. That's what this leaker says in regards to them, anyways:
"Shulk has like 5 different mode swaps"
That fits, because we didn't see him using any of the physical Monado Arts (Buster, Cyclone, and Eater) during the fight, so that leaves us with the five Monado Arts that affect his status (Enchant, Shield, Speed, Purge, and Armor). Now, don't quote me on this, but I think I saw him cycle through three kanji; the first two I can't make out for sure, but the last one was definitely 疾 (shitsu, Monado Speed). What's more, in Xenoblade, the light of Monado's beam changes depending on the Art being used.
Buster: Blue

Shield: Yellow
Speed: Light blue
Purge: Green
Armour: Orange
Cyclone: White
Eater: Black
Here, I can't tell if that happens with the blade's beam, but the kanji are definitely changing colors, at the very least. First, we had purple (Enchant), then green (Purge), and finally, light blue (Speed).
That's what I saw, anyways. All that aside, I can't wait to get my hands on him; sounds like he's going to be incredibly versatile.

Vaanrose (one of the original leakers of the ONE TRUE LEAK), said that MFL did NOT create the fake Palutena image, and that his friend did. The Palutena faker gave them to MFL in order to try to encourage him to share more info about his source.
