who would it be and why?

My vote is for Icefrog from DotA. The fact that the main developer for one of the most popular video games in history is still anonymous blows my mind, and what blows my mind even further is that he must be at every international tournament, blending in with the crowd, and no one knows about it.

I wanted to dominate the living room. Then I took an ESRAM in the knee.

a lot of my threads involve me fucking up somehow. Perhaps I'm a moron?
Yes and no.
It would totally ruin the mystique and make him just another serial killer. He's special because they never found him, otherwise it's a fairly run of the mill tale (in comparison to other serial killers obviously)

Who ever uses my username on the few sites where it's been taken, like Origin and some other random websites. You well rue the day my friend.

Yeah, I could get behind this.

I'd love to know Tommy Wiseau's true history.

It's not a secret anymore. Look up "the Disaster artist".

He was a Polish immigrant who came to San Francisco by way of France. He befriended a teenage American kid and decided to make a movie to impress him. The actors and production value were shitty because he fired people for the smallest mistake. Many actors and actresses left on their own accord. The script is bad because Tommy isn't a great writer. He knew it wasn't great but didn't want to give up on his dream, so he took on a ton of responsibilities (like director and lead actor) and saw the film to fruition, despite a huge financial cost to himself and years of his life gone forever.

Deep Throat (edit: Apparently this is already known and I'm 9 years LTTP)

I'd also consider twisting this around somehow to find out what happened to that settlement in NC where everyone mysteriously disappeared and the only thing they found was the word "Croatoan" carved into a building or something

Banksie, I suppose.

Came here to post this.

Not sure I'd ever tell anyone, but I'd like to know.

We actually know who that was; former FBI associate director Mark Felt.

Pretty sure they found out who deep throat was a few years back and there's one or two fairly solid theories about Roanoke.

Yes! Totally this.

Ha! I actually once met the dude who uses Cyan on another website I frequent. I think he was worried I was going to murder him and wear his username.

Yeah I trend to use KillEnduin when not available, so I'm sure they won't feel at ease if we ever meet.

Most scholars actually have a pretty good idea as to what happened to them. They went to a nearby island and lived out the rest of their lives on one of those nearby islands. The Spanish only checked like half of the surrounding islands for the villagers.

I think DB Cooper is the most intriguing anonymous person, although he's probably dead by now.

This poster pulses with an appeal so broad the typical restraints of our societies fall by the wayside.

I've read it. I didn't feel like it answered a whole lot of questions; just left me wondering even more. I mean, did he really make millions selling counterfeit Levi's or whatever? He's a mysterious man.

Most recently, one of the people who harassed Zelda Williams so much that she shut down her twitter because of their abuse. I'd like to see some consequences for that.

If historical figures count, it would be fun to find out who Charles Johnson was. He knew about every pirate in the early 18th century and was most likely one of them. I love to imagine that someone like Israel Hands or Anne Bonny was writing about their rivals in between robberies and raids, and retired with a steady income from the London book sales.

It would also be cool to learn about Dyre or Dir, the "stranger king" of Kiev. He was a Viking who sailed down the Dneiper and conquered much of modern Ukraine before probably leading a massive raid on Constantinople. This raid left such a mark on Greek culture that the emperor Michael III Amorian insisted on hiring Dyre's warriors as mercenaries for the Baseilia.
