Depths of Fear: Knossos is quite an interesting game. Certainly worth the two dollars I spent buying it on sale. The game is quite flawed though having been developed by only one person I believe. In fact before the recent patch it was literally unplayable, crashing to desktop often. The patch did squash many bugs and I was able to finish the game yesterday.

The graphics are rough, the animation janky. The ambiance is very good though. Gameplay is serviceable but nothing special. However, the sound design is perhaps one the best things about the game. The sounds of the various monsters are frightening and atmospheric. The music is great, reminiscent of 80's cult horror movies at least that is what it made me think of. It actually reminded me a bit of Hotline Miami soundtrack. The developer is quite skilled at sound work I thought.

Depths of Fear: Knossos is a rogue-like dungeon crawler. Or perhaps rogue-lite is a better term for it. You are the legendary Theseus thrown into the pits of Knossos and you must defeat the Minotaur and escape. There are several mythical monsters you must defeat including the Hydra, Medusa, and Cerebus. Each monster you defeat gives you a gold coin and when you have enough coins it unlocks a sword and you can then face the Minotaur.

Before you can defeat the monsters you must first go through the randomly generated dungeons trying to find a key to escape. You find money you can use to buy various weapons and books used to by spells by worshiping at shrines of various gods. The monsters are stalking you and cannot be defeated. You can kill them but they just respawn. You must hide or run for you life. This is quite tense and enjoyable adding a bit of survival horror to the game. There are zombies and skeletons roaming around sometimes too. Escape from four of these levels and you move onto an arena level where you face the monster. It can then be defeated and you can retrieve the coin.

I have a passion for greek mythology and this game really did the myths justice. Quite a unique game that I was glad to experience.

Finally finished redeeming the AMD codes. Now the waiting game.

I can finally go to bed now. I just wanna say this.

Because I love you all like family.

Also:
If anyone has any AMD Gold or Silver codes they are willing to sell or trade me a game for it. PM me on GAF. I'm trying to get as many as I can. Why? I think you all knows why. =]

Has anyone found a good Evil Within deal for Europeans? Cheers!

It's region-locked on Steam itself (ACRTAG). Your best bet is either GMG or GameFly with the help of a US GAFer so you're not paying in Euros.

Always man. I know a decent amount about Project Cars, but I don't have it myself, so I might not be the best person to ask, maybe? But feel free to ask anyways!

Thanks, I hope others can see if they can help too, I didn't want to make a thread regarding this. Here it goes. :)

Is Project Cars a game I will enjoy?

I might get project Cars when it releases, however I'm not sure if it's a game for me. I love to race. I'm really bad at driving, however, I enter corners by the inside too often, I brake too early or... too late but I always try to race clean. I love levelling up, unlocking and buying new cars, take photos of them, try them out and play in more that one view. Sometimes it's cockpit, sometimes I just like to see my brand new car.

I loved Dirt 2 and 3. I loved FORZA 4 and Forza Horizon, got these two on day one with the limited edition. I also like Gran Turismo but never played 6 only 5 and while I liked the game I prefer the career progression of FORZA. I loved Grid, Grid 2 and I'm really liking Grid Autosport right now. I love to race in a variety of courses, having a taste of different classes and the freedom to select the several types of difficulty as I prefer.

Like I mentioned, I'm bad at driving but I love to play these games. I usually drop down the difficulty of the AI a bit so I can up the difficulty in the driving department. Removing ABS, Traction control and of course those lines in the road are the first things to go as well most of the HUD since I like to race clean.

- Is Project Cars going to give me these options regarding difficulty like the ones I mentioned? By the way is rewind option going to be there or not?

- Is there going to be a levelling system? Will they reward us with cars or money, or both? Can I choose the type of Class I want to race in as Grid Autosport during different seasons or will they force my own path during career?

- I heard quite some people stating that this game might not sell well on consoles, why? The game feels a bit empty/barebones but that might be my fault since I have a lot of console gameplay to catch up.

- The driving seems a bit "stiff" and I've seen some people comparing to the Shift series, is this something to worry about? Gameplay is the most important thing for me when it comes to racing and having a proper driving mechanic for each different class is key.

If you or someone can share your thoughts regarding this matter I would be greatly appreciated, thank you! :)

I hate when i want to play something but just can´t decide what i´m in the mood for. :/

I know that feel too damn well, bro. It's the curse of having a large Steam library...

When that happens, I look at my library, and make a mental list of any game that I kinda want to play. Then, I usually go to howlongtobeat.com and choose the shortest one, because I like attempting to clear my backlog.

Where you gonna be in Europe? Passing by Belgium?

I wish, I have a good friend there I would love to meet. But going through Spain, France, Italy, and Switzerland over the course of three weeks. Second time in Spain and France, first time in Italy and Switzerland. Plane flight leaves in a little more than 24 hours. Then back to terrible typing by me on mobile again, hopefully I'll get better over the course of three weeks.

I'm sold on The Vanishing of Ethan Carter. So for this month it's this and Wasteland 2.

I kinda want to try Dead Rising 3, but I fear I won't have enought time for everything :/

I remember steamgaf being somewhat excited about Freedom Fall, but nothing else. How it turn out? Good, bad, neither?

Vanishing of Ethan Carter I am anticipating, and have done a good job not looking up anything about it since I saw the info after the teaser half a year ago. It coincidentally comes out the day I should be arriving back from Europe, so timeliness.

Wake up feeling not so great. The Banner Saga has been on my wishlist for a while. Enter the giveaway and win. SteamGAF always makes me feel better. Thanks!

What is The Vanishing of Ethan Carter exactly? It sounds like the name of an Iron Maiden song and that alone has me interested.

One of the first games to use technology to translate real world objects into 3D models, and looks gorgeous partially because of it.

Game-wise I know less, but it's supposed to be an open world atmospheric paranormal mystery game, and that description with those visuals is enough to sell me on it.

One of my most anticipated games. Looks fantastic. I'm a big Lovecraft fan so I'm really looking forward to it.

The more I hear about The Vanishing of Ethan Carter the more it sounds like a better version of Murdered Soul Suspect.

I'll be the judge of that when I play it. I have grown a soft spot in my heart for Murdered, it's flawed but I found an enjoyable experience with enjoyable characters and some enjoyable revelations with some good exploration and maybe too much collecting. And a big flaw of which I like to call, "The Phantom Menace."

Be aware, Enslaved has some bugs, like during a cutscenes an enemy doesn't break a wall if your resolution is too LOW.

To fix this, increase your resolution and details level to max (yes is strange, but this was the only way to fix the bug for me).

That's just Enslaved telling you it's time to upgrade ;)

There's quite a lot of 'customization' in terms of difficulty level. You've got all the normal driver aids you'd expect, including the racing line, but no rewind that I'm aware of. You can also specifically tune the AI's behaviour.

There is no 'leveling' system in the classic sense. There is no currency or unlocking cars/tracks. Career mode is about choosing a discipline and then you race for contracts, although I'm not 100% sure what all that entails. Basically, I don't think it'll be as much a 'carrot on a stick' type of progression, where you're always earning money or working towards unlocks, but more of a game where you race for the satisfaction of doing well and there will be different 'teams' you drive for, which again, I'm not sure really what all means for the final game.

The handling is something I cant comment on too much not having played it. People that know their stuff assure me that the physics are quite good, but there are a few concerns I hear here and there about it feeling a bit weird. But this is something they are constantly working on. Apparently the driving is a lot better than it was before and its not done yet. But you should definitely know that the physics are based upon a more realistic level of handling than even in Forza and GT. So while with difficult options and driver aids, you should be able to compete well, the overall handling model will still require a level of challenge and 'good driving' beyond most racing games you've played.

Which is maybe why its sales are questionable. Its impossible to predict just how well it does, but I'm not sure there's such a huge audience for a more 'pure' racing sim like this one. I hope it does well. I think people that play games like Forza and GT because they enjoy the racing should be able to enjoy this still. I couldn't ever guarantee you'd like it, but definitely keep your eye on it.

I'm sold on The Vanishing of Ethan Carter, and not just because of the pre-order goodies, however I am worried about stuttering. UE3 has never been able to shake its inability to stream data "silently" and the game is open-world, which means it'll be calling for data more often than, say, BioInf.

It's really, really noticeable in Eidolon so I don't expect good things. That game is a lot more open than what I imagine Ethan will be though.

This seems interesting enough to grab my attention. Thanks for taking the time to answer. While I like to race just for the pleasure of it, some sort of career sure does fit nicely in these games to me. Guess I might not jump on day one but will keep an eye on it, once more videos after the game is released appear. Then, I'll make my choice based on that.

I guess I came in the thread too late for that AMD codes info, given I only see it as out of stock. Sucks, would have liked to get one for Alien.

I just realized the main reason I'm so hyped to be getting so many Alien codes is because I wanted to give one to Corrosivefrost. But I just found out he already got his..

Goddamn it. I still owe him Rise of the Tomb Raider but it won't come out on PC any time soon. And he won't let me spend $60 and get him AC:Unity either.

Arghhh. The man is killing me here.

What am I going to do with all these codes now.

Corrosivefrost is a great GAFfer and I sure miss his posts. Same with many others that have been posting less and less these days and it's truly a pity but I understand. There's always PM's and chat on Steam so that's good.

from Ethan Carter store description:
inspired by the weird fiction (and other tales of the macabre) from the early twentieth century, The Vanishing of Ethan Carter aims to significantly evolve immersive storytelling in games. While it features a private detective and quite a few mental challenges, The Vanishing of Ethan Carter is not an especially puzzle-ridden game. Our focus is on atmosphere, mood, and the essential humanity of our characters.

Still, the discoveries won’t happen on their own, or without your help. Using both Paul’s supernatural skill of being able to communicate with the dead, and your own powers of observation, you will discover the mystery behind a trail of corpses, the roots of a dark ancient force lurking in Red Creek Valley, and the fate of a missing boy.

oh man if this game has Lovecraft type elements I'm double in...

wtf, when did bordlerands pre-sequel lose it's loyalty bonus for borderlands 1 and 2... how lame. Shame on you, greedy 2k.

The 10% loyalty discount was just for the duration of the 2K sale. You're not alone in thinking it's stupid.

I'm too nice to take advantage of other peoples needs.. Not that there is anything wrong with capitalism. It just doesn't sit well with me. Especially since I'm not even paying much for some of these codes.

Except I am giving DocSeuss a copy of Evil Within for 9 of his codes.

I talked with frost and he told me his reason. I understand where he its coming from. I told him it shouldn't bother him because he's a bigger man than that. But he told me he's not leaving for good. So we can only hope he'll post soon.

As I said above. I'm way too nice to even try doing that. I most likely will just cave and give away all my AMD codes if I even attempt to do that..

I might have to end up getting frost 2-3 indie games instead. Unless he decide to let me get him a AAA title. But most of the AAA games he want are locked.
