I can't...

I was pretty annoyed last night about this situation, but now that the delay is confirmed I just can't bring myself to care anymore. The price would need to go down to at least 15€ for me to even consider getting the game in late October, otherwise I'll just wait for a sale.

Well, they are the ones that decided to implement a region lock on their handheld when none of it's predecessors needed one. So they're always going to have at least a small amount of blame to bear in situations like this.

Well, to be fair, Atlus decided to region-lock Persona 4 Arena on PS3 when no other game had a region lock on the platform... Given how badly Atlus has managed SMTIV in Europe, I would assume that having no regional lockout wouldn't have helped much either.

Well look on the bright side. It has only been 1 year 3 months since the Japanese release for this game. I waited 1 year 9 months for Layton vs Wright! :)

I'm not even angry about this anymore, I'm just numb.
I hope to God that rumor about the new 3DS being region free is true.

Poor you. ;-)
Why do Capcom and Level 5/Nintendo hate USA? Did you collectively ran over their dogs too?

If they can't explain the delay pointing to the game-breaking bug, the Occam's Razor explanation is that Atlus is just lying. It smells of pure neglect for a whole year forgetting about promises made to the European gamers.

I haven't seen a single bug on the digital manual in any 3DS game in Europe and a ROM dump should not have game-breaking bugs if they were not present in the original NA release.

If they don't explain via official PR what the bugs are, I won't be buying this game, because I will consider they are just lying to us. Period.

That shouldn't really matter though, unless Atlus had to make a pact with the devil to get it out so fast and one of the conditions was to fuck over Europe. No game should take over a year to release in Europe after the US, especially if they're not gonna bother translating it to any other language.

Oh, i'm not saying this situation isn't fucked up; you should've had it by now!
that just means we had to suffer lukes voice earlier

I thought my game was broken when he started talking.

Did they have to add those useless "u"'s and change "truck" to "lorry" or what?

Typical bloody Americans. Damn it, man, don't you know anything? Sing with me now:
Every "u" is precious; every "u" is great! If a "u" is wasted; God gets quite irate!

Back on topic, though:

I remember being quite excited for SMTIV at one point. Like, last year. Now, with all the delays and digital-only nonsense, I think I'll pass altogether. Thanks, Atlus. I can only imagine how much bigger my backlog would be without your wonderful release policies!

And yet, someone must really like his VA as she's the main character in Inazuma Eleven as well.

Mmh... I do
Well, part to explain that is english isn't my main language, so, I kinda feel it like it's great, especially the accent which I really like.
Totally in line with Luke's character in my opinion.

AFAIK this is just the NA version, no changes, right?
So then if issues have been found are these issues also in the NA version? or are they not issues with the game code but rather the process?

For what it's worth, I've worked on games where there were issues that one region's certification was fine with, yet another region would not allow it. That inconsistency was always frustrating.

Persona 4 Arena seems to have been an isolated case though. It was bullshit, but no Atlus game since has been similarly locked. No reason to believe SMTIV would have been either.

What I would like to see is a post-mortem with details of the full year+ lag we've got. And what the heck happened with the French translation. A website called Le Figaro (Here, well in French obviously) told in an interview with the director of Nintendo France that they were working in a French translation. The interview was done in May so they dropped quite recently for... whatever reasons?
I'd like to see that too. What a trainwreck it was...

Pie and Beans

Look for me on the local news, I'll be the guy arrested for trying to burn down a Nintendo exec's house.
The One Year And Three Month ROM Dump Fiasco.

Lets have a look how long it took the hackers to get it up and out there then. 2nd October 2013 if I'm reading this right? Who are the professionals in this situation again? I am confused. I'm sure if Atlus asked nicely Venom would let them use their year old dump! Probably know more about editing text on the title screen too.

I guess the funny thing is, the biggest thing they'd be adding to the game is the European section of the credits. So whats causing the delay could ironically be the sequence in which people are supposed to congratulate all involved for a job well done. Delicious. I don't care anymore.

If anything I'm happy that region lock exists if only to expose the likes of Atlus as the incompetence spewing apes they are.

Of course, Sega just saw what people wanted (Sonic 3k Remastered, Sonic 1/2 Remastered on PC/Consoles, Europe to play SMT anything, PSO2 in English, more games like Sonic Colours and Sonic Generations) and did what they normally do (Which is to say not do it)

Delays are annoying, I was looking forward to this title and hoped for a release within the next two weeks. Oh, well.
But for me personally there is no need to get angry, to be honest, SMTIV would very likely be paused for quite some time by the end of this month, because Fantasy Life...

Looks like I will delay the purchase even longer from this point, Bayonetta 1 & 2 will very likely be the next in line.
Damn it, SMTIV, I really want you but you seem to be available in a time with too much competition on my personal gaming schedule :/

At the very least they could tell us why this has been such a mess. As far as I'm aware all we've gotten is "aah uuuh eeem uuuur because reasons" and that's nowhere near good enough.

Even if the reason is just "we couldn't be bothered/it wasn't important" because then I'll at least know for sure that they don't give a damn about my money.

lol, even November would have been better, since october now also has the only other 2 games I'm still interested in this year.
It will come november or later anyway, right?
As long as it's still this year, I unfortunately still gotta buy it though.

You know Atlus, you can go fuck yourselves.

Definitely not buying the game now, and I was looking forward so much to this game, but this is no way to treat your customers.

So Persona 5 in 2018 for EU

Man Atlus hates EU you think in 2014 we would not have issues with games taking year+ to go from America to EU. It not the playstation 1+2 era anymore

At the very least they could tell us why this has been such a mess.

Agreed, the delays are frustrating but the lack of any real communication from Atlus throughout this whole process is far more disappointing. I hope that Persona Q's release date and the ultimax trademarks are signs that SMTIV is the last hurdle before things can turn around.

never left the stone age
"a few last-minute issues specific to the EU version"

And here I thought they were just going to dump the US release on the eShop with no extra language options.

I don't know if people remember, but Devil Survivor Overclocked was pretty much the same game as the NA version but managed to get some massive gamebreaking bugs in its EU release. Like you couldn't summon demons or something pretty crucial to the gameplay. Either way the point is that something could've happened to SMTIV for this delay. It still sucks we have to wait longer for a game that has been out in English for over a year and as far as I'm aware it is an English only release here too. If 3DS wasn't region locked then I doubt any of us would've cared for an EU release. I'm just glad Hardin was up front about it because delays do suck.

I'll still buy it but no idea when. There's other stuff I want to get at the end of this year. Maybe when it is on sale.

I would have bought this to have something new to play for my 3DS but I'll have my hands full by October so I'll skip this then:/

I'm sorry Atlus, but I'll probably wait until 2015 to get this game then. I just posted on the "what are you getting now that summer is over" thread and realised that I won't have much time to play it by October.

Wow, I almost got beaten to death by GAF.
I was about to post: Don't all European users have a US account anyway? Why bother releasing it in Europe after all these years?

My mind was still on the PS+ thread, and forgot about region locked =/.

Well, another few months won't kill you guys anyway.
But man, I feel bad for the UK people though.
Translating English back to English must be hard...then again, English is the 2nd language for most if not all of EU.

Actually...

There were statistics online, but I couldn't find them again sadly. Games are still being localised to EFIGS and will be for a very long time, because majority of Europe does not speak English as everyone thinks they do. Statistics showed that majority of Italy, Germany, France and Spain played in their own language and preferred it to English. If you've ever been in these countries you'd know it's not exactly easy to find english-speakers, let alone fluent in English. Localization IS needed, this is why companies still pay craploads of money to do it.

But yeah... I'm in the UK and I do feel pretty fucked. Thanks Atlus :(
Also I do not own a US account. Too lazy, cba.

I still would like to know exactly why they couldn't do that for Australia at least.

Sure they would need to change the locked region, but Atlus shouldn't have a problem doing that.
