Are there cardboard cutouts mingled in with the real people?

y'all should be ashamed
I was creating a topic for this, an official one, with all the bells and whistles and fireworks that this launch deserves. I'm disappointed I'll have to put it down now.

I didn't know...I should have looked... :(

I can have the mods close this one if you want, no problem. This isn't really an official thread.

This is the biggest next-gen console launch in Japan in the past few years.

Nah, it's fine. My thread was mostly parody and I'd yet to even begin it.

This thread has history. We've already reached teenage years.

General question since I read a Cave comment: is there a reason why they make Xbox exclusive shooters? I could see last gen as the 360 was easier to code for, but now the effort should be roughly the same between the one and ps4. Is there an exclusivity arrangement?

They made exclusive ports of their arcade shooters because MS supported them. The console became the de facto platform for shmups, so I don't think MS paid for every single game, it was just the most sensible thing to do (the market is super small anyway, so the lost sales from PS3 were negligible). We know that MS specifically asked them to port their last game (DDP Saidaioujou), so they kept supporting them even later in the 360's lifetime.

As for PS4/X1, I don't know about any exclusivity deal and Cave hasn't said anything at all for a while.

Right but that's my point.

They're launching there but obviously they're not pushing it very hard, it's more like "well here you go, buy it if you want". And then the response in this thread is basically "yeah right MS! No way you'll sell any of your console in Japan!" But that's their feeling too. They know they're not going to sell very many.

I can understand why they are doing it this way. Even Nintendo struggles in their homeland. Must be tough for an outsider to launch a console and have it sell massively. Hell, even Sony is having major issues.

You never know, it might do better than the 360 but thats not saying much. :D I would prefer it to do well so more developers jump on board.

Are they selling a Kinect-less SKU?

I can guarantee you they are selling a customer-less SKU.

Unlike people who criticize square-enix, Microsoft are not experts in Japanese culture. How they thought they would magically break in my money hatting a few games is beyond me.

Why should anyone there buy an Xone?
Multiplatform games are available (in better quality) for the PS4 and there are/will be more and higher quality exclusives for tbe PS4 (expecially japanese games).
People in Japan are interested in great exclusives and love games from their own country and I wish MS best of luck but they seem to not really be prepared for Japan.
It will probably sell less than the 360 (which sold under 2 million in his entire life cycle).

No one should buy anything. If they buy it it's because they want to.

I have a feeling MS invested maybe 1% in XBO of what they did with 360 in Japan, no big exclusives (sans Scalebound) or JRPGs, not even a TGS conference... makes me kinda nostalgic about first few years of 360 in Japan, number of japanese exclusives system got back then seem so surreal now.

Anyway if anyone cares looks like Chaos;Child got demo released on japanese gamestore, new site also http://chaoschild.jp/

Huh? TGS hasn't happened yet, Xbox already said they had a conference. The Sony thing was pre-tgs.

Ketsui came out for PS3 a few months back. I don't think the exclusivity deal is a thing anymore.

I also don't think Cave makes shmups anymore. Wasn't their new mobile/social game focus Asada's primary reason for leaving for 5pb.?

Wish there was a weblink to download it to my Xbox

I was visiting Japan in May... and there were import XBox Ones on sales at Yodobashi in Shinjuku I think, probably elsewhere as well. I feel like anyone who really wanted one would already have one so kind of a really unimportant launch.
