Dead Rising 3 PC Steam pre-load is live

Performance is mixed so far. Stays 60 FPS most of the time but still drops to 50-55 in huge crowds(ie the second crowd in the prologue)

Cutscenes drop all the way down to 35. This is at max settings with a 780Ti and i53570K

Do have vsync on though.

I bet you could hold 60 with a few sacrifices to your settings. Maybe a couple things to high as opposed to max?

Unlocking. Slowwwwwwwwly....

Not exactly a looker is it? Not a single decent looking texture in that shot.

Worried about performance from what I'm reading, but hoping a I5 4690k and a 750 ti OC should be enough for low at 1440x900 (native monitor resolution). Will update tonight with performance details.

I don't think that's going to save it.

Needs much higher resolution textures from what I've seen. And... some kind of color.

I think the opening is actually the game at its worst. Looks a lot better in the city and all of the indoor areas have decent to good textures. Lots of nice lighting effects in the game as well, shiny floors/clothes that reflect light, weapons light up the environment, etc.

IQ is still pretty bad at 1080P/SMAA though. Tempted to just lock it back at 30 again and downsample as much as I can

Have run into an annoying bug where the tutorial message for the map doesn't disappear, meaning I can't change the mission tracker or zoom in at all.

Edit: Alright, driving into the crowd after opening the barricade drops to 45-55 FPS. Very inconsistent. Will have to drop something down as the crowds only get larger from here on out. Need to hurry up and get a gsync monitor.

Also worth noting is the game is working my GPU hard. Up to 75 degrees which most games don't get to.

I heard about cutscenes driving 780ti's/Titans pretty hard in this game. 99% GPU utilization at 1080p with dips in the low 30s, or high 20s in the case of vanilla 780s. Can't wait to test it myself in a couple days.

Come to think of it, it reminds me of Lara's full head of TressFX hair in Tomb Raider, and how it tanks the frame rate during some of the cutscenes. What do you reckon is the cause in Dead Rising 3, subsurface scattering perhaps? I guess there's also the "self-shadowing" they've been talking about during streams.

Is there no windowed mode?

Alt+enter works but there doesn't seem to be a borderless window mode

There's definitely some weirdness with the framerate at 60 FPS. It's just dancing around like crazy for no reason. Dropped shadows down and it seemed like it improved.....and then it was back to near the same.

If there's a windowed mode you can use your choice of about 50 trivial tools to make it borderless fullscreen ;)

I don't think I've ever purposely set a game to windowed mode so I wouldn't know! Just know it's a setting I see sometimes these days, lol.

Really wishing I had a g-sync'd monitor, outside of the starting area the framerate is just all over the 50s. Didn't seem to be a single setting that got the framerate stable, and I don't really want to drop too much. Will mess it with more later, although I might just lock it to 30 for better IQ until I get a Swift. Probably going to hook it up to the TV because the black bars are a bit distracting. Don't have a massive monitor so it's not ideal, and the game obviously isn't designed for it aesthetically.

Unlimited Capacity
I beat this today and the last 3rd or so really is a slog. Every single mission starts on one end and continues/completes clear on the other side of the map. Looking forward to some PC screens though.

Looks like it's not just Japan. It's unlocked here in Singapore as well. I guess it's all XB1 Tier-2 regions?! Lol.

Good to know it's not just my PC...

1440p DR3

*cries*

I sure do love 15 fps cutscenes

What settings are you running at? About to attempt to play this at 1440p as well and would like to try to avoid the 15 fps cutscenes if possible.

Does not seem to support 16:10 monitor resolutions -_-;;

Nope, and it's pretty distracting. Connected the game to my tv, tempted to fire up the Xbox One version and compare. I remember doing the same with Dark Souls II PC/PS3 and being horrified. "How did I spend 80 hours with this"

Doesn't sound too bad so far, eh?
Somebody happen to have a 7870 / i5 4570 setup? Hope it runs decent on mid/high settings. Really don't want to go down to low with everything, game isn't eyecandy as is.

But isn't it visceral and in your face? You can just feel the depth!

What is the performance like people?

Strangely terrible in the in engine cinematics for whatever reason. Mostly reasonable outside of it. Still a pretty big upgrade of the Xbox One version even with the issues.

In advanced graphics settings what do 720p, 900p, 1080p, and Full mean?

What the game internally renders at. If you set it to 720p and your actual resolution is 1080p, it renders at 720p and upscales it to 1080p. Full renders it at whatever resolution you have set I believe.

Internal resolution of the game. First three are self explanatory but full just means it will render at the resolution of your monitor. Ie, if I was playing on an asus 4K monitor and had set resolution to 3840 x 2160 it would render the game at 4K. Or not because my videocard would probably explode given how hot it gets at 1080P.

After learning how to mess with VPNs, my copy is unpacking. Pumped to get into this. Had a ton of trouble getting it to activate

I don't know if this is going to be stable enough for serious nightmare play, fucking crashed after a half hour or so of mucking around after I reached the garage. Had a handful of crashes over the many hours I spent with DR 1 and 2 on 360.

I ran it at 5120x2880. Big mistake....

gave away the keys to the kingdom.
Having different settings for display resolution and internal resolution for a PC game is -really- weird.

It'd make sense if you could set the internal rendering resolution to a value greater than "full" as this would allow for downsampling without any external tools/trickery.

Edit: ricochetguro raises a valid point.

It's for UI scaling. You'll notice that if you drop the internal resolution the UI stays at the resolution of your choice. If someone with a lower end graphics card can't handle 1080P they can change the rendering resolution to 720P and continue to have the UI look sharp. The Xbox One version did this.

I usually like downsampling games from absurd resolutions for a minute or two just for fun but I'm too scared to do so with this game, lol.

That's actually a pretty interesting point. It's cool that they have such an indepth feature, but pretty weird for a PC game to think like that. I guess under the hood all this was taken into account when they made the original version, since it was sub-1080p iirc?

Wow this game looks bad :S

Doesn't look PS2 quality but I'm not that big of a graphics person. I prefer the enjoyment of slicing through waves and waves of zombies, which is what Dead Rising 3 is in the end. If you enjoy an endless horde action game this is for you.

Is anyone actually trying to play it?

Collected the spray paint cans, taking the survivor back to my safehouse. Another crash. Fuck this game, my first and last PC pre-order.
