It's been a pretty uneventful day. There were a few people at the office that had it pre-ordered, but they were a minority. This is big considering I work at a game developer. A co-worker of mine has been doing these Microsoft Japan raffles since June. Every month, they pick two thousand winners and give them 1000 yen Microsoft cards.
He won every single time.

This would also explain why consoles seem a bit more popular in more rural areas like where I am. I was shocked with how poor the PS4 numbers have been given the attention it's garnered from my students but this explanation makes a lot of sense.

Btw, try not to take the tape comment too harshly. There was a thread on here not too long ago about GameStop and others putting tape and stickers on cases and directly on the manuals to cover that covers box art or just diminishes "the look" of the product. It drives some gamers / collectors mental.

If it is, Crimson Dragon is currently free on the Japanese store when I checked last night (Games with Gold)...should definitely pick it up!
If you want, you can even change your region to US and download Super Time Force, although that might require a card to be added with a US address.

Sorry if it came off the wrong way.
There are plenty detailed reasons related to costs of game development, game buying public having no free time, mobile devices being miltipurpose so therefore more justified purchases.
But this image to me sums it up more than anything to me.
Why the fuck even bother? No disrespect to the poster who put this pic up, but this just looks like a colossal waste of time. Buy a projector or something.
Even though the screen is smaller than than console, wont make the games any less fun for the guy. You dont need a 80 inch screen to enjoy a game.
I wasn't talking about overall sales, I'm sure we've got quite a number of GAFfers living in Japan so I wasn't expecting literally one person to put his One purchase up.

Japanese describe the sound of clapping as パチ　（pa - chi)
The Japanese pronunciation for 8 is ha-chi.
So instead of typing パチパチパチパチパチパチパチパチ for applauding, they just type 8888888888888.
It's not so much sarcasm, but people on Nico tend to watch most events as a form of entertainment. So they might type 88888888 as "omg, that's funny."
edit: for that youtube video, they're clapping since they're at the end. Although there are some obvious joking comments made also.
