Jesus Christ, you guys are rude. I've been saving for the Xbox for almost a year now as I'm actually quite poor. You really had to comment on my bedsheets as well?

omg I'm dying here. If that is really your pic I feel for you.. just let it roll off.. shit back in the 80s we'd game on 13" or 19" TVs... sure they weren't high-def consoles but you played on what you had. Enjoy the games and just let the chumps fall by

Does anyone else find it odd that the titles of some of these Western games aren't at least Katakana-ized for the Japanese market?

Yeah, dude. I used to game on a small ass black & white tv with my Atari 2600.

Sometimes when I really got into it, my eyes would play tricks on me and I'd swear I used see it in color.

Wasn't allowed to hook it up to the color tv in the living room. Heck, most times we weren't even allowed in the living room. Plastic was still on the furniture for years. LOL.

Get that hideous tape off the poor tomb raider case.

Don't even bother with a case. Go digital. Even when I used discs I never understood peoples fascination with the case. I never looked at my VHS, CD, DVD, HD DVD, or BD cases except when I first opened them. Beyond that I only needed the disc.

Except the digital version of these games likely costs you $59,99 when the disc-based game can be gotten with severe discounts.

This is bad too. From the Hollywood Reporter:

Xbox One Console Has Dismal Launch in Japan

Xbox Ones are not flying off the shelves in Japan
Lines of excited buyers conspicuous by their absence

The Xbox One launched in Japan on Thursday with next to no fanfare, and one store in Tokyo reporting that they hadn't sold a single console by late afternoon.

Some electronics and game stores in central Tokyo had put out signs at midnight last night telling non-existent customers where to line up for their Xbox Ones. Other outlets, with lower but more realistic expectations, had not gone to the trouble of opening early.

"Honestly speaking, we haven't sold a single Xbox yet today. The Xbox has never been a big-seller, but we would expect a few customers on the release day," a sales assistant at a Tokyo electronics store who asked for it not to be identified, told The Hollywood Reporter.

At Yodobashi Camera in Yurakucho, a single customer waiting to buy the Xbox One when the store opened was reported to be outnumbered by a group of journalists there to cover the launch.

Microsoft has always struggled in the backyard of game rivals Sony and Nintendo, but did shift more than 1.5 million Xbox 360s in Japan. It looks unlikely to match that performance with its new console, which is being outsold by Sony's PlayStation 4 (PS4) two-to-one globally. The PS4 has beaten Sony's sales forecasts, pushing its gaming division back into the black even as the company continues to struggle overall.

Xbox One is on sale in Japan for $381 (¥39,980) for the basic package, and $476 (¥49,980) with the Kinect sensor needed for many games. By comparison, the PS4 is around $380, ready to play.

One reason for the Microsoft system's woes in Japan is the taste of local gamers, who tend toward role-playing type games rather than the shoot-em-ups that the Xbox has been known for.

Tokyo Game Show, one of the largest events of its kind in the world, runs from Sept. 18 to 22. Microsoft has traditionally had a big presence at the show, despite its poor sales in Japan.

The Japanese launch is an unmitigated disaster. Extremely embarrassing for MS. Not showing up in Japan at all would have been better than this.

Free PSP with every xbone? That would be actually a good way to sell some

Edit:

Damnn, Famitsu snubbed the X1.

Not really snubbed, because i mean, they still give XB1 a place on the cover lol

That will be true disaster, even only 1k lifetime, they still have to release the console
Since they have a low key launch(hell they even don't choose saturday for the launch date),i think they already expected this.

I want to see pics of the reactions

Tokyo (AFP) - The Japanese launch of Microsoft's Xbox One fell flat on Thursday, with journalists covering the debut far outnumbering buyers.

"Japan finally got the console more than nine months after it hit shelves in North America, Europe and Australasia and half a year after domestic heavyweight Sony unleashed its PlayStation 4 to grand acclaim."

Not looking pretty...

I think that some may slowly come buy so I still think it will do double digits like maybe 70k or something. According to reports buyers started happening hours after the launch so maybe everyone was just scared because they though those Kinects on displays were NSA cameras until they were given the ok.

Lol but honestly, it seems that a lot more buyers appeared today then yesterday so who knows. It would be interesting if Xbox One drops in the 100's just the week after.

I'm not sure if I agree with this. MS spent money for localization and online infrastructure for Japan and they are mandated to maintain support in the region. MS will bleed money if the sales is too abysmal to cover the maintaining expense. Why is it a good idea to launch in Japan again?

I don't know how much the rest of you know about America culture (I'm an expert), but honor and shame are huge parts of it. They can't just fall back.

Because not launching at all in one of the 3 big important gaming regions worldwide would be worse than launching and not selling anything.

That doesn't explain anything at all. How is not launching different from launching and not selling at all? The later is even worse. What does MS gain from having their console sitting on the shelf collecting dust?

Let's assume the launch is so disastrous that MS will forever lose money by simply being in Japan. (operational cost, etc)

It's still something they have to do as a lip service, and worth doing if only to maintain whatever relationship they have with Japanese publishers making multiplatform games.

Sure, business compels big devs to make games multiplatform anyway, but you come across as a terrible partner if you're not willing to pull your end of the relationship.

It's not reallyy. Let's say they lose 3 Mill over the lifetime of the console in japan. That tells me it's not worth even the lip service.

Especially to a division that's finances are already under scrutiny from shareholders.

It's justifiable expenses, is what I'd call it.

"we lost money in Japan, sure, but if we didn't come here, Japanese third party games might be defacto exclusive to competition and harm sales in territories that matter!"

This thread's not going to move any further until we get some solid day 1 sales numbers from MS.

Which from the looks of it, is not going to happen until next week's MC sales thread. Or unless Famitsu releases a special Day 1 report like they do for other big ticket software/console releases.
