Games where the musical score outclasses the game.

A company being excited for their new game is a huge slap in the face to all the fans that liked their old games.
I was wondering if anyone has come across games that they just can't get into, and yet have such an amazing soundtrack that you actively try to see the good in it, even though it's not your cup of tea.

For me:

Assassin's Creed II and Jesper Kyd's music.

In my opinion this game is not nearly as well realized as the music, or the music is in a class of its own. I fucking love it. Can't get enough of it, and I could never get into the game for various reasons.

Chrono Cross - the game is good (not as good as Trigger, in my opinion) - but the OST is absolutely amazing!

Hello Actraiser the thread. Game was pretty ok for it's time. Soundtrack is top tier.

Super Castlevania IV.

Woah, off topic for a second, I've seen your avatar in an old PlayStation magazine before, back in late 90's. Always wondered where it was from.

Was it called Front something...?

That's the cover art from Wasteland, an old PC RPG from 1988. Inspiration for the Fallout games.

This is some seriously good music. Like really good.

Game was ok, super ambitious but not good as it should havebeen. Needed another year of polishing and fixing stuff.

Decent game, one of the very best soundtracks of last couple years

Beat me to the punch.

Alone in the Dark 5: The Thread.

is beloved, despite what anyone might say
Hotline Miami. Didn't care much for the game and its loose controls and high-death-toll/insta-respawn type gameplay but god damn that soundtrack!

Also Shatter is a solid Arkanoid-style game with a few interesting twists on the formula, but damn that soundtrack is in another league entirely.

Star Fox Assault has a sound track that sounds like it belongs on a much larger and more epic space adventure than that game. Amazing, orchestrated remixes of SNES and N64 classic tunes with a few really good new songs.

Assault wasn't a bad game, but it had the soundtrack for a much better game.

Remember Me has a great soundtrack. I remember thinking while playing what a shame it was that most people would never hear it because the game as a whole missed the mark.

This is the best answer. I really liked Chrono Cross, the music however is just plain God Tier.

I'd say Mega Man X3 for my choice. Not the best X game by far, but the music puts most of the others to shame.

There was an option to playback all the sound effects in the game, and it included the music - actually made a "mix-tape" back in the day that included my favorites!

Soundtrack

I really couldn't stand Lost Odyssey or any of its stubbornness in clinging to outdated JRPG design for the sake of feeling like an old-school JRPG, but its soundtrack was sublime.

Dat world map theme.

An amazing piece perfectly capturing the essence of fantasy world exploration. And what do they use it in? A fucking menu, because they couldn't be arsed to make a world map.

Great example. Honestly, this game was ass. (no pun intended)

Style over substance, and I did buy it because of the soundtrack but god was the game dull and uninteresting.
