There are less than you would think. If we're talking "hardcore" gamers your average sports star is much more likely to be one then a famous actor/actress.

Actors can be on set up to 16 hours a day, it's pretty hard to keep up a gaming schedule if you're working those sort of hours. Handhelds (the DS in particular) were pretty popular with actors and actresses until the smartphone boom.

Will Arnett talked about being a big CoD fan on Conan back in the MW2 days.

Nathan Fillion with Halo is awesome, though.

Chandler Riggs( Carl from Walking Dead) Used to have a gaming channel on youtube. he'd play like Minecraft and other stuff. I think his channel is gone now.

every time some celebrity claims they play games, i just roll my eyes. the second they try to answer a question even remotely related to game its clear they have no idea what they are talking about

It's almost like they don't work or something. Like they have all this free time like the rest of us to just sit home and play games like all day. I guess knowing every detail of a game means your a certified "gamer" right?

Not sure if someone has said this already but Fred Durst plays Call of Duty and a few other games quite a bit. Saw him streaming on Twitch not too long ago aha

anyone who even spends a few hours a week playing video games will have some idea what they are talking about. it typically goes something like this:

"so whats your favorite game?"

*long pause* "uhhhh well" *long pause* "im kind of busy as you can imagine but i like quite a few games"

its just PR. for the most part celebrities are always going to try to answer any question in a way that can help them relate more to fans. so saying they play videogames is going to give them relation to a huge part of their male fanbase.

No clue if he's still into it, but on some talk show Joseph Gordon Levitt talked about how much he loved Street Fighter 2 when he was a kid, and how he bought a cabinet.

Eminem had that Donkey Kong obsession for a while.

Asa Butterfield plays Dota, and was a guest on one of Brad Shoemaker's videos.

Will Arnett talked about being a big CoD fan on Conan back in the MW2 days.

When Titanfall was coming out he got interviewed by Kyle Bosman, too.

For some of them, sure, but let's not act like video games are still this weird niche thing.

I know that Jenna Coleman said in an interview recently that she used to be a gamer when she was a kid, and specifically loved the Sonic series.

Not this "true gamer" bs mentality. *eye roll *

Regardless of what, if they have played a game, that doesn't mean they need to know everything about it. I've been playing games for years and can't even recall moments in almost 90% of them unless they are my favorites. It's not unrealistic to vaguely remember details of a game especially when you have far much more things to do in your life than sitting and playing games.

Those moments are cringeworthy to me too, but since most of us here are more dedicated than most we can easily pick out who knows what they are talking about and who doesn't.

Off the top of my head Vin Diesel, Nathan Fillion, Zachary Levi are pretty legit. Then you have your second tier which is celebrities who will namedrop Halo or Call of Duty exclusively.

Guess I'm not a gamer because you named 2 of the only 5 games I'll play this year.
(sorry I just think that's silly)

Once a celebrity says they enjoy video games, they become a regular person in my eyes

She is also in Xenoblade (voices melia).

Peter Seranfinowicz is a huge gamer. He spent years raving about demons and dark souls and eventually managed to blag his way into voicing Pate in Dark Souls 2.

Do you have an example of this ever happening?A celeb not being able to name a game that is.

I'm pretty sure the people mentioned in this thread could name a game when asked.

Did anyone said Asia Carrera already? She was a gamer (and a modder!) way before it was cool.

I wouldn't call him a favorite anything but wasn't The Game one of the top Madden players in the world at one point?

Likewise KimDotCom (Owner of Megaupload and Mega) was the top COD player in the world.

Vin Diesel. Not only is he a tabletop gaming nerd, hes a gamer, has his own dev company, and is buff as fucking shit and has an unintentionally hilarious facebook page

I think you will find alot more celebrities play Videogames than you think.

Unlimited dispoable cash, need to do something between shoots/while on tour, a general love of technology.

I think the spread would accurately reflect the spread amongst the general population. The fact is, even when you can be anywhere and do anything, sometimes all you want to do is sit in your underwear and do something normal.

The name dropping is crass yes, but you arent going to admit you have a copy of criminal girls on your Vita if you are famous.
