Assuming that while the rounding isn't explicitly stated, it's implied by the ordering: PSV making less from software than the Wii and only a little more than the DS? Ouch.

If you merge PS3 with PS4 and Xbox with Xbox One, what's the percentage increase from last time? Seeing all those decreases is distressing, but it's masked by the fact that the new consoles have nothing to compare with.

Yeap... wrong words ;) but it is anything surprising that PS4 passed 360.

Just that this news was expected.

really? brand new console with <1m installed base and apparantly no games, Vs established console with huge installed base?

I get that new owners might be more active, and the 360 will have quite a few dormant users now, but that is still surprising to me.

Water is wet.

Edit: i'm actually surprised at how well the Xbox One is selling, i figured it would be doing far worse

Not in the UK, the brand is strong here compared to er... Anywhere in the world but the US, although it might be a little concerning that it's still quite a ways off Xbox 360 software although it will be very worrying if it remains the case after this holiday.

Well, i'm American and almost all of my friends own PS4's with no interest in the X1. Only one of my friends own an Xbox One. Guess i'm just in the wrong circles.

looking at LTD and YTD it seems to be doing alright (~20% behind).. However looking at Aug'14 in itself is another story (~40% behind). So the question is, how much of that 20% difference between the two was made up by post-launch and TitanFall launch? And which figure is more representative of the current state (20% or 40% difference)

Yeah, we don't fuck about. Out with the old, in with the new.

this is america and we like our video games like we like our women... cheap and used..

I kid about the women part.. not so much about the video game part...

Everything else is down while WiiU is up?

Wii U went from a year with zero reason to buy it (it was pretty much dead in the UK) to a year with Mario Kart 8 and Super Smash Bros. on the horizon, not even to mention some other awesome releases that finally filled up its library a bit.

Not surprising.

How is advertising and the like there? I assume it is very high in the US from all the ads when watching sites like Giant Bomb, so is it similar in the UK?

For me it is a band new console beating records in sales with 1m+ userbase and a lot of games that created a huge backlog for me.

Versus a old console where guys are migrating to the new one.

Edit - lol fixed the wrong person quote

I see it on TV quite a bit, especially on BT Sport so I assume they're aiming at the same demograph, even when I'm watching YouTube channels.

Yeah, there's barely an ad break without that annoying Stallone Xbone ad.

For hardware sales we know

Ps4 1 million

Xbone 666k?

That's the general ratio I think it was CVG who said that Xbox maintained a 3:2 ratio when the 1 million announcement hit.

Edit: And Eurogamer.

So how is PS4 doing compared to competitor Xbox One in the UK? Eurogamer understands the sales ratio to be 1.5:1, so if PS4 has sold 1m, then Xbox One has sold around 666,666.

And in August a 2.5:1 ratio for Software. That's quite the difference in attach rate. Must be The Last of Us.

~5% increase on August across all platforms (on revenue). ~12% increase YTD across all platforms.

Sony platforms are up 75% on August, up 43% YTD.
Microsoft are down 14% on August, up 17% YTD.
Nintendo are down 36.5% on August, down 29% YTD.

For units it's less rosy: down 15% across all platforms for August, down 5.5% YTD. Sony and Microsoft are still up on last year, however.

I know I'm the worst guy to bring it up, but the 3DS software sales are shit. To say it was the best selling hardware in the country last year, and it skews towards physical, and the prices never drop, it's a terrible showing. Hell, PC retail continues to show the 3DS a clean pair of heels (in units, not revenue), and we all know how niche that is.

When I look at reasons Nintendo ought to shit themselves, this is the biggie for me.

WiiU software might looks decent (by WiiU standards) for the year but despite a more healthier userbase (though still poor) and MK8 it's slightly down or flat on last year, which is anything but encouraging for the platform.

TLoUr did really well on PS4. It was again, a perfectly timed release for Sony, like it was on the PS3. September is really going to increase things for the new formats particularly with Destiny and FIFA doing the numbers. Those splits are going to be super interesting.

This ia a fair statement.

Do people buy full games on the stores for consoles? I get it for indie games that you can't buy on disc or special offers, but the prices (at least on Wii U and PS3, I haven't been able to afford a next-gen console yet) on the official stores tend to be £10-20 more than for the physical copies at your local friendly game store.

Are people really paying £59.99/£64.99 for games on these machines?

Well, if me or my friends buy digital games its mostly on the US store.
games are about 45€ there and 70€ in the EU psn.

That makes sense, the US PSN has much better prices and selection of classic PS1/PS2 games too doesn't it? Is it easy enough to set up a US account on PS4/Xbone? That might swing me over to digital when I upgrade...

Hear hear, I always gawk when looking at a 3DS game's price that's been out for longer than a year, when I know, I can get about 4 decent Vita games for the same price.

Hell my interest in SMT4 has only risen because it's asking price is a little above what I pay on average for a PSVita (or compatible) RPG, I'm even willing to overlook the 3DS'... handling of digital content this one time.
