Sell me on buying a WiiU

I just got my bonus and feel like buying myself a present. I have a PS3,PS4,360 and X1. I already owned a wii but lost it in a break up, though I still have Metroid Prime Trilogy Mario Galaxy and Xenoblade, none of which I have played.

Is it worth buying a WiiU? What are the games I should play that I can't get anywhere else? I have never really been a Nintendo gamer, so don't quite know what I'm missing.

Cheers in advance.

I still have Metroid Prime Trilogy Mario Galaxy and Xenoblade,

That's already a good enough reason, get Mario Galaxy 2 if you don't have it too.

The best Wii U games imo are:

Mario Kart 8
Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze
Pikmin 3
The Wonderful 101
Super Mario 3D World

There's more great games, but those are what I consider the ones every Wii U owner should experience.

Nintendo product.

Possibly the last home console they produce.

Mario.

we already know that they are working on their next gen handheld and home console.

Mario Kart 8 is GOTY (best MP experience of the year imo)

Also:
- Online gaming is free
- One of the best Mario games (Super Mario 3D World)
- The best 2D-platformer since DKC2 (Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze)
- Bayonetta 2 (next month)
- Smash Bros. (end of the year)
- ZombiU (love or hate game, but true survival horror)
- Wind Waker HD (awesome remake of the original game)

You already own a Ps4 so no 3rd party support shouldn't be a problem.

I was going to write an elaborate post about how great the Wii U's games are but with these games as a backlog already when there's no point in buying a regular Wii you've pretty much done the job for me.

No particular order, out of my mind:

Mario Kart 8
Super Mario 3D World
Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze
New Super Mario Bros. U
Rayman Legends for U
Pikmin 3
Hyrule Warriors
Zelda WW HD
Lego City Undercover
Bayonetta 1+2
Pikmin 3
Nintendo Land
Wii Party U
U R Wonderful

EDIT: yeah, also coming:

Smash Bros. for U
Xenoblade Chronicles X
Project Zero shocks U
Zelda wows U

Super Mario World 3D is really good. Magically good.

Mario Kart 8 is very pretty if you like Mario Kart.

Smash is basically guaranteed to be fun.

WiiU will have a number of exclusives that won't be available on other consoles, I think it'll be a good fit to have something different to play.

There are a lot of good games. You're bound to find something you like at this point, at least to hold you over until Smash.

Bayonetta 2
Super Mario 3D World
Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze
Hyrule Warriors
Shovel Knight
Mario Kart 8
The Wonderful 101
Windwaker HD
Pikmin 3
Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate
ZombiU
Lego City Undercover

Do you need more?

Here are a few bullet points i guess

-Cheap. Nintendo sells refurbs Direct for 200. Not too shabby

- The same Quality Nintendo games you have come to expect. Finally available in decent quantity

- Solid upcoming releases over the next year.

At the very least its worth having a WiiU as a second system complimentary to your main system much like Wii was. Its certainly cheap enough now

Super Mario 3D World

Pikmin 3

The Wonderful 101

Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze

Mario Kart 8

These are games already out that are worth the purchase alone. From Nintendo's E3 conference, there will be:

Xenoblade Chronicles X
Hyrule Warriors
Splatoon
Mario Maker
Yoshi's Wooly World
Captain Toad's Treasure Tracker
Kirby and the Rainbow Curse
Super Smash Bros

3D World is wonderful.

Mario Kart 8 is gorgeous fun and the DLC sounds great.

Tropical Freeze is an excellent platformer with an amazing soundtrack.

Wonderful 101 and Bayo collection provide the best kind of stylish action there is.

ZombiU is true survival horror.

Smash is out before the end of year.

I played Captain Toad at Gamescom, it's lovely.

Zelda, Xenoblade, Devil's Third, Yoshi, Kirby, Splatoon and Starfox are on the way.

It's a nice little machine, has free online and is backwards compatible.

Do you enjoy colorful mascot games? You'll be in hog heaven.

-Mariokart 8 - Absolutely worth buying the system for. It's the best MK game ever made, and the cheap as dirt dlc hitting only sweetens the deal.

- ZombiU - If you like survival horror, this is anothe fantastic game you can't experience anywhere else. Watch some clips on Youtube.

- Zelda WW HD- Have you ever played WW? If not then there's never been a better time, as this is a beautiful remaster.

- Bayonetta 2 - It's not out yet, but...do you really need to be told how awesome it's going to be?

- Off screen play - Range sucks, but it's a pretty cool little feature. Depending on where you place the system, it could wind up being a great feature for you ie: playing in bed.

Of course there's plenty of other titles worth looking into but these are just a few I think really make the system worth buying.

Right now the console has a pretty good line-up and it's much quicker than it was in the beginning (the menus were terribly slow).

The only flaw that I see right now is space. 32GB is a joke. So if you buy a Wii U, buy a external HDD too.

Tons of exclusive games, I'll just list a few I've played myself and I think worth giving a shot:

Zombi U - Awesome Survival Horror experience, not everyone might like it but it's a true hardcore game.
New Super Mario Bros. U - Might not be your perfect 2D platformer, but it's one of the best recently released
Lego City Undercover - Free Roaming Open World LEGO with tons of jokes and humor, all packed in an incredible gameplay focused package (what it really misses is co-op)
Pikmin 3 - Probably the best in the franchise, too bad it ends when you really stlil want to play more!
Wonderful 101 - Kamiya and not only that, pure action, humor and a truly satisfying game. Hard mechanics, though
TLoZ: The Wind Waker HD - Awesome remake of the original GameCube Game, pretty graphics and a true adventure game.
Super Mario 3D World - Super fun in co-op, awesome graphics and one of the best 3D Marios ever created, period.
Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze - Best 2D platform game ever created, Retro-awesomeness, pretty graphics and if you like challenges it could really last a lot more than just the storyline.
Mario Kart 8 - Do I even need to tell you why? :p

and don't forget there are more games coming, just to list a few:
Hyrule Warriors - Sept
Bayonetta 2 - Oct
Super Smash Bros. - Nov/Dec (Winter 2014)
Captain Toad - Dec/Jan
Xenoblade Chronicles X - 2015
TLoZ U - 2015
Splatoon - 2015

Do you really need any more reasons? :O

I have a PS4, X1 and Wii U, and I say that Wii U, I'm having most fun (and X1 the least). Recommended: New Luigi U, Super Mario 3d World and Mario Kart 8 for both single and multiplayer

Even if you decide not to get a Wii U, maybe pick up a Wii on the cheap somewhere? You're have three very good games in Galaxy, Xenoblade, and Metroid Prime Trilogy you should play. Nintendo Land is a great couch co op game for when you have company, Mario Kart 8 is amazing. Super Mario 3D World, and DKCR Tropical Freeze Are great too. Off TV play is very useful, especially if you have kids and a spouse. I made this post from a Wii U game pad.

Well you can play those wii games you mentioned plus games like

mario kart 8
Mario 3d world
mario bros u
Pikmin 3
Lego city undercover
Monster hunter 3
Donkey Kong tropical freeze
w101
zombiu
....
(Only listed console exclusives)

Unlike popular belief the future looks pretty good as well. Bayonetta 2, smash, hyrule warriors, toad treasure tracker for this year and xemoblade x, mario maker, splatoon etc. Etc.

The Wii U is backwards compatible. You really need to play those games. There's some really great stuff in the Wii bargain bin that you may or may not have played, such as Madworld, Twilight Princess, Okami, SMG2, Muramasa TDB and Skyward Sword (which, incidentally, are all on my backlog :p).

As for stuff you can't get anywhere else? Well, the Wii U library is essentially nothing but exclusives. There are a lot of must-haves, but since people have already listed a bunch of these games I thought I'd focus on the Wii backwards compatibility aspect instead. Just pick up a Wiimote & Classic controller combo and you're set.

Do you like Nintendo games?

Cuz thats what youll get

Don't think I've really played any outside of Mario Kart at Mana Bar (Yahtzee's gaming bar).

It is hard to analyze why you should buy a wiiu with no background of the genre of games you enjoy.

Hrmm I'm pretty open. Only things I really struggle to enjoy are sports games and RTS's. My favourite games last gen would include Bioshock, Braid, Borderlands, the Fallouts, Mass Effect, Sacred 2, Diablo 3.

I love a good JRPG but don't know if I've played a memorable one for many years now. I have 1000GS in Enchanted Arms... my secret shame. Story and narrative I really enjoy, especially when done well.

Can't you just look up what is on WiiU? What do you need us specifically for?

I can't say that I could reasonably look up the best ranking games on Metacritic and link these to what I have enjoyed the most. "The classics" - e.g. must have Dreamcast games - are always best coming from word of mouth.

Because Bayonetta 2 it's simply one of the best action games of all times. (and yes I've played a lot of levels at the E3, Gamescom and Nintendo events)

DKC: Tropical Freeze

~$250 to play one of the best platformers out there. sounds pretty legit to me.

I guess there are some other games too :p

The games already out are already covered.

2015 will be an insane year too. XenoX, Yoshi´s Wolly World, Captain Toad, Zelda U etc.

The WiiU will have a kickass library at the end of it´s lifecycle.
