It's time for another PS4 stability update don't you think?

I know we got spoiled at the start of the month, but we need more stability.

In reality, cmon Sony, watching the XB1 updates/beta tester programs and now them having a media player is getting pathetic.

Yeah I know 2.0 is coming.... but Soony. It'll probably hit on December the 31st just so they can say it came out in 2014.

My bad. I thought I read somewhere it was coming before Destiny.

Actually, thinking about it, I probably confused 2.0 with pre-load on X1...

We'll have

1.77 - Stability
1.78 - Stability
1.80 - Printer Support
1.81 - Stability
1.82 - Stability
2.0 - Themes
2.01 - Stability update to fix broken themes

Before we get there.

You serious?

No 1.9 stability update series. Sony would never forget our 1.9 updates. We need more stability.

By then @yosp will be so overrun on Twitter it will code red at Monkey HQ that they'll make an internal decision to skip 1.9 to make the jump to 2.0 seem MASSIVE.

2.0 was rumoured to drop around September 25th. Themes and Shareplay nigh on a lock, basic media playback an outside possibility due to MS's support for it falling into place?

Must admit I have been pretty disappointed with the lack of updates and features on the ps4. Sony are in a great position at the minute, I just hope they don't rest on their laurels.

Badly needed are YouTube and music/video player. The web browser is pretty shit too, I have had it force close because apparently the next gen power of the console can't handle 4-5 pages open at once and it gives you an out of memory warning.

Ironically for me the OS has become slower after all these updates. When receiving messages it takes a good 10 seconds for the message board to refresh.

Sony unveil our PS4s have actually been using all of our collective memory/CPU power to develop The Last Guardian through a remote AI. Skynet brings us TLG.

I am more interested if 2.0 finally brings back some basic features which are missing from the PS3.

I am not even talking about media playback and themes and that share play feature seems nice

but

* friend notification
* pause downloads
* some separation between games and apps

.... come it, it´s been almost a year.

This is the biggest joke of them all. Could have been included in a stability update no problem. Seriously, what on earth could hold back being able to pause a download?

Because - and now LOL - the ps4 automatically pauses the last download if you add more than 5 new downloads to the list.

This. Before they go adding anything else, they need to at least get the basics in place. It would be nice to know when my friends come online, without having to check my friends list.

It's hard to believe these things still aren't in place nearly a year after launch.

yeah sony take the piss with these updates

Indeed. 2.0 better be absolutely massive, as we have gone almost a year now without any kind of meaningful update to the UI. I think pre-loading is pretty much the only worth while thing we have gotten in nearly a year.

We should have the option to have WWE-style entrance music play when a select group of friends sign in

I love Sony and I love my PS4, but MS is killing them on this front. It's not a front that would enable them to win the war (sure, I'll keep going with that metaphor), but I do enjoy seeing what they add to the XBO every month. Meanwhile, Sony's attitude makes it seem like they think they're done.

Sony has to also worry about PSNow, remote play and soon Shareplay apps on the PS4, and camera/voice to boot. Dont make it seem like Sony isnt doing jack shit, they are operating on a different timetable

tbh im really fine with all the stability updates, once in a while i still do get a bluescreen crash of a game here and then
although its extremly rare further stability is always a nice thing to have

sony should rather fix all the potential crash sources before going for new features imo, im sure the system will benefit from that in the longrun
i rather have a fast and stable barebone system than a slow and crashing system full of features

I wonder why Sony is so bad when it comes to deliver meaningful updates in a timely manner. Like you said Microsoft is kicking their ass when it comes to it. I also have a Xone and every month there is a list of os improvements and new features.

Whatever the premise of this thread was supposed to be, the title and OP come across as quite trollish imo :/

Agreed, this is super annoying. *Bling* You have a message!

Goes into messages.... nothing there.

Wtf.

The PS App is just as bad. Meanwhile on the PS3, the messages appear instantly.

I was going to jokingly say I needed more stability, but then I stopped and thought about it and realized that I do. I get the "three beeps" damn near every single time I go into standby. It's actually gotten worse over time.

Yeah, this has been the most dissapointing thing about the Ps4 so far.

I've had fun with the game so no problem there but come on Sony, step it up with the OS. Xbox gets new features and updates every month and all we get are stability updates that, in my experience, don't really do anything. I haven't noticed any difference between launch and now in terms of stability, IMO, it has allways worked great and I've only had one game crash on me (Metro Redux one time AFTER the stability updates).

I mean, I know nothing about programming but how hard can it be to update some basic stuff like friends notification, folders and download pausing in 8 months. Even my WiiU gets more updates and Nintendo just discovered the internet like 5 years ago

What does the 3 beeps mean? I've had that happen to me once or twice.

The general consensus is that quiet simply the team in charge of software for Sony is not as experienced and well rounded compared to Microsoft.

You also have to take into consideration that this Disparity in Update quickness is by design. Microsoft through all the fumbles they made with the Xone, got one thing very right. Having 3 OSes has allowed MS to really push the envelope in regards to development, since they have a sandbox for their apps, while Sony has to work with 1 single operating system that has to manage everything.

It truly was a master stroke and its paying dividends already.
