So ... does this make ppl more excited for Destiny? Proper raids which require dedication and teamwork? I am not lvl26 yet so I can't join in but it sounds awesome, but pretty tough.

LIVESTREAM OF A RAID ABOUT TO START

The raid is called Vault of Glass and is only available to characters level 26 or higher. It also requires six players, and remember: all must be friends; there's no matchmaking for the raid.

Bungie has described the Raid as the hardest challenge available in the online first-person shooter so far, but the rewards are tantalising: there's a raid set of gear up for grabs, as well as high level materials.

"Not everyone will qualify," Bungie said. "Among those who do, not everyone will succeed. To even approach this trial of teamwork and combat, the Guardians in your Fireteam will need to be Level 26.

"Bring with you a team that has made the commitment to work together. Configure your loadouts so that you are powerful together in a variety of ways. Communicate with each other. The Raid will demand that you operate as a team. Cooperation is the key to your success."

Bungie added that it is unlikely players will finish the raid in one sitting. Your progress will be saved for one week, but to resume your mission where you left off, you need to follow the same Fireteam leader.

Many of the attempts are being streamed via Twitch. We're following StreamerHouse, which is sorting its team out now, but there are others available.

[EDIT]

Destiny - "BEST LEGENDARY ENGRAM FARMING GUIDE" | "Destiny Skywatch Engram Farming Location"

This is the best method I've seen for getting good armor and weapons really fast without grinding out strikes or getting screwed over by the randomness of the crucible. I'm curious to see how well this spot works for you all!
P.S. This also works for people over level 20 looking to get better gear.

I'll be a high enough level to enter once Bungie decides that Legendary Engrams shouldn't result in blue loot.

Would take me another 20 hours to farm for level 26 gear probably, then have to find 5 people from somewhere. Never gonna happen.

Hard for me to even get to this level as I have work and family commitments.

Just wish there were raids for lower levels which could get semi decent rare loot

Watching the Twitch stream right now. Those guys must have been playing pretty much no stop since the game come out.

GAF clan thread? Shouldn't be hard to get 6 people together at any given time.

This.

I'm not excusing the lack of in game functions to form a party with strangers, but there are so many methods outside of the game to gather folks. People have made websites that allow you to list yourself as looking for group, the bungie.net forums, here on GAF, reddit, etc. The internet is brimming with people willing to play this game with you.

Hope you're all ready for level 26 bullet sponges now.

At level 19/20 the strike bosses absorb enough damage to make a mission last near an hour, and that is if someone doesn't quit due to extreme boredom.

I don't want to think how mind numbingly awful that would be over a few hours with double the people, unless this content is all new?

My group's all 26. I've been 25 since last Thursday. I've had 11 legendary engrams decrypt into blue and green garbage.

Le sigh.

Hopefully I can knock out enough Vangaurd marks today to just buy my way to 26 with one more piece of legendary armor. We have a 3-hour session set up for tonight and another 3-hour session for tomorrow night so we can test the waters. I don't expect we'll get through it this week, but I think next week after it resets, with the experience and hopefully some more legendary special weapons of various damage types we'll be good to go.

I'll tell you this for anyone considering attempting it: Doing a level 28 strike, the captains were virtually invincible until a buddy of mine used his Arc damage sniper. It was two shotting them. My void damage sniper took 8 shots to kill them (if they didn't hide and regenerate).

I fully expect this level of play in the raid. Certain enemies and presumably bosses will only be feasibly killable with certain special weapons and heavy weapons with the right TYPE of damage (Arc, Void, Flame). So get ready to plan your routes, take multiple weapon loadouts, and take plenty of ammo consumables. Oh, and lots of lubricant for when you get bent over on the first few runs or so.

Also, a raid group with a Sunsinger Warlock, a (Defender?) Titan, and not sure about hunter (probably blade dancer spec) will work wonders I'm thinking. Stop thinking of maxing your own damage and figure out how to max the group.

I'm also thinking TWO Sunsinger Warlocks and a defender Titan will be pretty strong too, if the Warlock buffs stack (even if they don't, alternate Super uses ftw).

Edit: forgot, 6 man, so 3 Sunsinger Warlocks, 2 Defender titans, and a hunter of some sort :)

Good luck everyone!

We can run the level 18, 20, and 22 strikes in the strike playlist in 15 to 30 minutes tops depending on which one it is. Our record for the level 20 strike (first one that gives marks) was just over 10 minutes start to finish. Coordination is more important than people are realizing, as is running right past any enemies you don't HAVE to kill. Boss fights shouldn't be taking you an hour unless you're playing level 28 Heroic strikes if your group is at the appropriate level.

Yeah... Only 1 person I know has been lucky enough to reach level 26 so I don't think I'll be participating for awhile.

Yeahhhhhh, nope. Leveling up isn't nearly enough fun. I'm 20 now.
Watching the stream on Twitch right now. After that I think I'm kinda done with Destiny.

Yeah, I won't be playing this. I'm level 20 and my friends are 21 at highest. I've not even seen a level 26 player in the wild.

That is just not true. Yesterday evening was doing level 20 strikes with my level 20 titan and it never took us longer than 10-15 minutes to kill the final boss.

The fact that a game that requires playing with other players actually has no way for you to play with other in game players unless you are friends with them is just plain bad design

I'm not even level 24 yet, and I may not get there for another 2 to 3 days.. SERIOUSLY. I haven't been getting any armor drops that have higher levels of light.

Really pumped. Just hit level 19.5 but hoping to be able to do this by sometime this weekend.

I don't think it's that it's getting 6 people to begin with that's worrisome (well it is, but IMO it's not the main problem), but the fact that you're going to need those exact same 6 people to continue your raid. Bungie said it's unlikely that you will finish it in one sitting, it's going to be pretty hard for lots of people to get the same 6 people on for several hours at the same time able to play every day for a week.

One person can't make it or can't play for x hours each day guaranteed? Oh well, you can't continue your raid try again tomorrow when everyone is available.

Well that is exactly what happened on last strike mission I was on with the tank and bazooka boss, all level 20 warlocks. Maybe your group was a bit more aggressive or skilled.

Fucking this.

And bungie what the fuck is it with the no matchmaking? This game is full of the most frustrating bullshit!

Ugh!

Matchmaking doesn't fix this though. You aren't going to get the same group of randoms to continue your raid. They backed themselves into an odd corner with this one. I agree and disagree with what they are doing. I enjoy the game a lot but in game community features are severely needed and they absolutely need to be on the top of a list on a whiteboard somewhere at Bungie.
