New Driveclub gameplay

BiGBoSSMk23

A company being excited for their new game is a huge slap in the face to all the fans that liked their old games.
I have a serious OCD problem with this game right now.

I'm really competitive and getting the most out of my lap times is prime directive for me, so here's the issue:

The cockpit view. Damn why does it have to look so good? It even adjusts itself to give you a better view of corners you're turning into... but I can't drive for shit with it.

I'm better at sizing up the track with 3rd person view mode?

So, should I just race with whatever camera yields better results? After all, If I race with the cockpit view, I miss awesome shots of my brake lights and the car overall. But if I don't... night time driving might be a problem because of lack of high beam visibility...

Decisions, decisions...

Yes drive with tactical view for competitive advantage. Drive with scenic view for enjoying yourself.

Visited a friend that works at Best Buy and he pulls out Driveclub to tease me! He knows I have been waiting for it since launch as that is the main game I wanted when the PS4 came out. He said he got the copies of the game late last week. Box is generic as shit though. He would not let me take a pic however.

So close, yet so far away still....

Might have been posted already, but do we have any videos of the menu options an such? Can't wait until Tuesday!!

Also, put me in the camp for turning on the music. Nothing better than bumping and thumping while driving at crazy speeds.

Quoting for the new page.

Master the cockpit.

I would say the same. I play a lot of Forza and up until F5, I usually play in 1st person and at times in 3rd person, but I got use to playing in cockpit mode, so for me I did get use to it. But Forza is more sim that Driveclub, so I won't know which view to use until I play the game. If DC leans more to arcade gameplay, I might stick with 3rd person, it all depends on the handling of the game for me. But cockpit view does take a bit to get use too and in my case in F5, I did improve my lap times in that mode. Hope that helps.

Ok i think i should stop watching videos, gifs and screens of DC. The game is definitely incredibly looking, don't want to get into a debate with the warriors here but damn, so nice !

Gamersyde videos are very nice, bravo guys good work !

5 more days to go and i will the damn thing !!!

LMAO. No kidding. Racing Games are one of my favorite genre's and I was crushed when DC got bumped and then went AWOL for a bit and then various rumors of release dates floated around. I wanted to just rip it out of his hands and make a run for it.

We've seen leaks of the settings/options menus before - what do you want to know?

How's bumper cam?

It's fine....

But the thing is that for me, your FOV is limited by the frame of your TV. You have no peripheral vision.

So on that basis alone cockpit view in racing games has always been a write off for me. Until VR that is...

3rd person just gives you greater awareness of what your car is doing and what's around and ahead.

I find Evo games 3rd person cameras are always best for some reason.

Still, playing with cockpit feels more legit. But it makes absolutely zero sense if I'm playing on a TV... unless I hook up to an 80 inch TV or projector. It's too limiting.

People just aren't used to this type of engine.

An engine where every object / material in the game is dynamically lit. So the slightest change in the day, cloud cover, whatever changes everything about the screen.

So one picture may look " sharper " because it has a ton more shadowing, but only because the sun is more to the setting position causing shadows on every object to change position and lengthen while another has the sun position near noontime when shadows are smaller.

Yeah, and the accusations of "inconsistency" are silly. There's a reason that good photography has appeal -- most photos are crap. If it's silly to expect every photo of the real world to look amazing (it is silly), it's silly to expect every screenshot or video screencap of a game to look amazing.

Did Killzone even have full manual+clutch support at launch? I THOUGHT NOT. Shadowfall was a terrible racing game.
Pfft, come back to me when Forza let's you stab people's eyes out!! Seriously, come back to me when it happens because that's a game I really do want to play, driving around and stabbing people's eyes out of their faces with Lamborghinis.

Why not play what feels best. I get that some people think first person is most immersive. But in most cases i think third person is more immersive...
Do what works best for you and save the cockpit view for showing how awesome it is to friends :p.

Personally i haven't played it yet so i'll try and just decide after a few hours of playing.

Thanx for all the impression so far!

As great as this game looks, there still seems like something is missing in the overall package. So far, we've seen a lot of the same when it comes to stunning visuals, but no much in terms of content that keeps players coming back. I am concerned about the middling car list, track variety, and stifling customization.

I do think the PS+ version will help people who wouldn't normally buy this game give it an honest shot, I'm not convinced it offers enough to keep players interested. I would have liked to see something more aside from graphical fidelity at this point. Aside form the social aspects (which often sound better on paper than in practice), there is little distinguishing Driveclub with other racers.

Is it just me or do the graphics not look as good as I was expecting in some of those videos?

This track doesn't look very good imo. The car looks like it's floating, the road texture seems wrong and the rocks in the background look very bland. Now I know whey they keep showing the forest track and weather stuff.

Great looking game no doubt, but inconsistent on the visual side.

Its most likely that due to the extended polish time they made larger improvements to some tracks and not in others.

I agree about the backgrounds. what on earth is going on with the water?

New video incoming!

This one is just showing how much Fame Points you can gather just by trying your darndest to best your lap time and climb the rankings, and also how fucking incredible the sense of speed is in this game even with lower tier car.

Getting Pacific Rift vibes zipping through those jungles.

Vid will be up in a few.

I really enjoyed Shadowfall but this is absolutely true.

I'm hoping they have better driving physics in their new RPG.

I'm on flu meds and have no idea what is going on

That looks incredibly off.

I can't get over how genius this game's UI is.... It's replay factor x 1000

Every event you can replay without getting bored because it's persistently telling you who to beat, how to beat them and showering you with fame points towards your overall Racer profile, OR penalizing you for fucking up.

It's hard and it's good and I

The unfortunate thing is that people seem to have expected a perfect looking game. I'm guilty a little bit of it, too, but I am realizing that it's just a ridiculous point of view to have. It is going to have flaws. It's going to have some aliasing. It's going to have a little bit of inconsistency, etc. You can't expect the game to look perfect. It's not a perfect looking game, and it's wrong to expect it to be.

I do think some should stop trying to criticize people who say anything negative at all about it, because you're perpetuating the mind frame that it's supposed to be "perfect," when it isn't and shouldn't be expected to be.

The sooner we realize that, the sooner we can get back to marveling at the things it does brilliantly.

Setting up a race should have the option to restrict camera types...so people can setup cockpit only view or bumper view for the entire race

Can you elaborate on the bolded parts?

Does your overall aggregate fame points actually decrease if you fuck up?
