[EU] Bloodborne Alpha Test

xxracerxx

Don't worry, I'll vouch for them.
Watching the ExServ stream and everything looks pretty damn good. The lighting looks good and the blood on the clothes is ace.

It's a bit juddering when moving the camera which is really off putting.

Otherwise atmosphere is really nice and graphics are canny. DS games aren't really my bag though but it feels very much alike.

Ah started watching just in time for the common "neogaf is AIDS" comments and bashing to start. Otherwise this is the only player I've seen who doesn't cause me to want to scream at the monitor.

And he's gonna beat the boss any second now!

e: nope lol, died a second after i posted this

Decided to give it a rest before rage mode activated.

Pretty solid demo thus far. It's asks you to be far more aggressive as opposed to DS. I'm sure you lot already know about the health system, attacking to get health back yadda yadda .

Not sure I'm gelling well with the guns but having two modes on weapons is great and very stylish (can't think of another way to put it). You can get some solid combos with duel wielding daggers.
No kicking though which I'm finding odd. You have to heavy attack guys with shields but I'm not used to it.

So far Iv been summoned once and it worked fine. Wired that I wasn't glowing blue though. Kinda forget which persons game you're in.
I tried summoning and being summoned again but to no avail. Hard to tell whats going on by just ringing bells. Prefer leaving summon signs.
Leaving notes for players is great "click".

What I did find great was enemy's attack one another. I baited a hefty dude up some stairs only to be greeted by two werewolves.
I rolled away and turned to find the werewolves smashing the fuck out of the big guy.

The town is really nice and detailed. I'm guessing the townsfolk are suffering from a werewolf problem and are all cursed themselves. By the way they come shouting at you I think they believe they are trying to deal with it themselves.
Guessing by the health system and blood veils, I'm assuming your playing as a vampire?
Very Van Helsing feeling.

I wonder how the leveling up system works?

Technically we're allowed to discuss it with other alpha testers, so I guess so.

Oh good then. Guess I'll take my chances.

Really like it. Framerate is unsteady but better than in those videos from a while back (GC?) and I was a bit surprised by how little of the environment is interactive but all in all, it's shaping up to be a damn fine Souls game. Looks fantastic too.

Just about shat myself when I was running along and this group of big crow monsters crawling along the ground by some boxes jumped at me. Never even noticed them until they were right there. There's a few 'jump scares' in this already in fact, classic enemies behind boxes/around corners Souls stuff.

Didn't even make it to the boss fight yet either. Lack of shields really is also tense as fuck... especially against those big hunchback bastards. I'll maybe have another run at it tomorrow.

Great game so far though, definitely.

I think they said townsfolks are already cursed/infested yet they are not aware of it.

Yeah, me too. There is still no info on this, right?
What about weapons? Do you find any in the Alpha or is it basically the same thing they showed during expos?

No weapons in the alpha. That doesnt mean there will not be on the final build though.

If anybody wants to give me their login info so I can play one of the days they're dong this that'd be sweet. =x

Just use what you're given. Just like DS2 Beta. No one drops anything. Only drops so far are blood veils, stones, silver bullets and molotov cocktail.

Incidentally is really weird not having magic about the place. Hope something like Alchemy is involved. I think it would fit in well.

Any impressions about how well the game plays on the Vita via remote play? Curious how they map L2 and R2 since they are so important in the souls games.

Game looks amazing.

Framerate is Souls-y, but it's bothering me a bit, not as smooth as I hoped.

It's an online alpha so I'm sure that's not their focus right now, I bet they'll fix it. Wouldn't surprise me to see some sort of trade-off in terms of graphics to make it smoother.

One of the best games of this generation will be already released on february 6th. :D

No, seriously. It's really great. Difficulty, learning curve, level and monster design (I like the damn crows), music (!)...
The only real downside is the framerate. It really sucks. :/
Hopefully they'll sort it out, because other technical aspects (besides some more visible aliasing on wet metal objects) are nice.

And well, dat art style. So, so good... :)

Kinda sorta figured out the Cleric Beast, although I can't do it yet.
Throw molotovs at him, then when he's stunned go in for an execution-type move on the head, tears off a larger chunk of health.

(edit)
Just doing enough damage on him triggers the move.

shoot his head a couple of times and it triggers it :)

Was a pretty fun couple of playthroughs. Cleric Beast was neat but a bit on the easy side, even without molotovs. One thing to note about that fight is the camera. It is essentially two bosses in one: A huge werewolf-beast-thingymajiggy and a PITA camera. Worth nothing that outside of that bossfight, I had no problems with the camera at all. Huge targets seem to draw the camera in real close though and that's when it gets problematic.

The enemy that gave me the most grief, although I beat him, was the armored guy with the huge axe. Lots of HP and I couldn't really do a lot of dmg to him outside of blunderbuss counters. I probably missed something or one of the other weapon types is more suited for handling him properly (tried all 'classes' but didn't try out all the weapons on him).

I got my ass kicked but I loved it. Only tried out the double daggers and the hammer/sword combo. I loved that hammer. It's amazing.

Took me 45 minutes to get to the boss. Wasn't been able to beat him in 2h15 minutes, alpha stopped :(. But I had alot of fun, fighting and learning his moves.
Framerate issues didn't bother me. Some camera angle problems while fighting boss were annoying.

I saw someone doing a side step to the left/right when I played it. How can I do that? Ic an only roll and do a step backward.

Really loved playing it, but I died way too many times, haha.

So we're talking about this? Game of the year! And I shouted that to myself while getting stuck in some geometry during the boss fight (of course, he kept hitting me until I was dead, and before you possibly freak out, remember: it's an alpha). So I guess you could say I'm more than impressed.

That Souls feeling is certainly there:
- getting cocky after finally defeating that badass-huge-axe enemy, just to get slaughtered by carelesness and couple of regular foes - check
- awesome atmosphere and creepy sounds after which you wonder what's waiting for you around the next corner - check
- no music until you get to the boss, and when it kicks in, it's bloody awesome - check
- level design that every now and then opens up more, with shortcuts and new paths, while at the same time giving you taste of what's to come (man, I saw that shadow near the fountain, but when I saw whose shadow it is, I was ecstatic) - check
- ragdolls - check
- awesome enemies (and boss) - check
- not so great framerate (but still more than playable, mind you) - check
- messages, now cooler than ever - check

Plus, it's got few tricks of its own (new health system, no shields, new/old parry which feels great... and I could go on and on). And man, is it stylish - the way your character uses blood vials, that new pose (or however it's called), when you shake off your cape - holy hell, so much style!

In short (as I said) - game of the year. It would be nice if they could fix the framerate and camera during the boss fight(s?). I didn't even mind the aliasing, since art style is godly, but even as it is, I absolutely LOVE it! February can't come soon enough!

There's no such thing as a Souls-type game without shitty framerate, I'm afraid, but I hope they make it stable at 30fps.

loved the art, combat moves, enemy design, the core demon's souls experience. didn't like how i had to fight the camera on the first boss. once i figured that out, boss wasn't so hard. this needs a little work and the game is perfect. it's pretty much perfect right now, i'm happy :)

how many doors did you guys open? i think they were all locked for me.

the whole atmosphere felt straight out of some Van Helsing mythos, it was great
did anyone catch that huge thing on the tower to the right of the cleric beast?

First saw it in the room where the big guy is hammering on the door. When you go down into the little courtyard, his tentacled shadow was casting long on the ground. With all the spooky trees about I looked at it thinking 'that tree's casting a strange shadow', I then turned all the way around to see it looming at me with it's multiple eyes. Fucking fantastic, reminds me of first glimpsing the Moonlight Butterfly or Ceaseless Discharge.

Oh I didn't catch it there at all I first saw it on the bridge
after the NPC and werewolf(?) enemies
but everything about it seems really unnerving and raising so many questions
from the amount of sealed coffins about the place to the bad guys with slightly elongated arms
