Shinji Mikami's THE EVIL WITHIN |OT| Where's everyone going? Tango?

It's more about people clicking perhaps on one chapter for help and easily navigating to another one. Not skipping like that persay. I might just remove the selection from the end portion and leave it at the start in future videos I create. Debating still.

I still think a playlist would be fine for that then. I mean I personally would just look through a user's playlist or do a search on youtube with the chapter number. But if you wanna do all that I guess you can. More work than I'd put in.

What's interesting is when your in the save area place, the aim is more like the middle picture.

Also just discovered that the morgue area rewards seem random. Saved, opened it, got one item, reloaded, picked the same one and got something completely different.

They may have ruined the game by changing the camera when you aim.

I'm sure there was a reason for it, but it is an interesting change that seems like it happened very late in development.

I'm not concerned about the review embargo either... release day embargo is pretty much the norm these days. Anyone want to guess the meta critic average just for kicks? I'm going with 84.

Eh, Wolfenstein had the same embargo and it's my GOTY.

It means nothing, to me. That's just the way Bethesda does business, I don't think it necessarily reflects lack of confidence in their products.

Wow, I had totally forgotten about and I did end up really loving Wolfenstein... hard choice.

Metascores are so unpredictable these days, as opposed to even just like 2 years ago. I find it kind of exhilarating, reviews used to be so boring.

The Evil Within could be anything. But I'm gonna go with an 87.

My only guess is that they try to increase the sale by trying to butter up to first person shooter players.

I really want the game to prove me wrong. But we'll see. I'm not happy about the change at all.

I agree! Gone are the days when you could predict the scores a game would get the day it was announced. I like that reviewers have been all over the map recently, and expect this game to be no different in that regard.

I dunno, maybe because of the engines fps roots and need for body part specific aiming they found it was easier to aim accurately from this vantage point?

I don't understand the jump of thought to FPS. It's a really tight aiming scheme, but there's still a huge gap between the two. Especially in the stylization of those 'genres'.

Man, I do not like that change. I guess they want to make things more tense by having it harder to tell how close enemies are to the player, but the teeny little gun sticking out of the side of the screen just looks ridiculous. The perspective could be confusing too as it looks like you're always going to be shooting at an angle.

I hope it plays better than it looks.

Low seventies,
but GAF will still love it!

Jim Sterling is on my PS4 friends list, I saw him playing this tonight. Looking forward to that review...

I can see him lowballing it, for some reason.

Maybe it's because he gave Vanquish a 5, I dunno.

Those who aren't so easily pleased by smoke and mirrors will be left wanting with Vanquish. Short, repetitive, and criminally dull, this game gives one the sense that Platinum was resting on its laurels, convinced it could do no wrong. Unfortunately, it has done quite a bit wrong with a game that's full of conflicting design choices and bereft of inspiration.

Vanquish is a tepid and tedious game that simply doesn't deserve your cash during a period chock full of far superior releases. And I never thought I'd have to say that about a Platinum game.

Gonna cry myself to sleep or whatever

i think he played it like a cover shooter

I preordered this on GMG for PC, but after seeing the 60 FPS stability claims and the letterbox stuff, I'm feeling iffy. I don't know whether to cancel my preorder, and wait for reviews to go up before buying it-or perhaps just get it on PS4? :/

I haven't been following the development religiously but god damn, I really like that tight aim camera.

I'll know for sure on tuesday but personally that looks like the most perfect amalgamation of third person navigation and first person aiming. I kind of love it.

Yeah that review is terrible. It's like he played a completely different game from me.

Vanquish a 5? Wat. I'm not as in love with the game as some other people, but that's crazy low.

It is a game that doesn't really show you how it's best played though. Cover shooter indeed. That's why I can understand games like Demon Souls or whatever getting bad reviews... you need to remember when people are reviewing these games they don't have access to a community to assist in getting the most from the experience.

I wonder if this game will be similar in a sense? I could see some people being frustrated if they don't know how to play the game properly.

Yeah that review is terrible. It's like he played a completely different game from me.

I'm just hoping his latest streak of well-built reviews continues over, instead of the seemingly extreme number throwing and external factors that plagued his work in the past. Worst I've seen lately from Sterling is that he can waffle a bit about a point before actually making the said point.
Not even close

I don't understand what is so terrible about it, though I agree with Intheflorsh that the pistol sitting on the side of the screen is silly looking in that instance.

My copy has just been shipped so I should receive it tomorrow. YEEEEEEAH. I also bought some new headphones so I can play this the right way.

I've shat myself already.

Also says 5 chapters in, his current play time says he's played the game for 3:39:03. Game has 15-16 chapters, though they could get longer, as Chapters 4 and 5 used to be just chapter 4, but the chapter was split into two.

So... I don't know if I'm just doing really good at this game because I'm a survival horror vet, but having just arrived at chapter 5. I'm sitting at 2:24. So not sure how it took him 6 hours by chapter 6 but I don't think it will take the same amount, though I could be wrong.

Is there a chance I could get my Avatar "themed" with Evil Within as well? Looks so cool and I am so through with Destiny... Still sad about it.

Luckily there are many games coming to help wash D off my face!

Wow, at that rate you'll half his time, so about 8~ hours supposedly. Bethesda lied!

Damn. Well, that deflates the hype some. =/

Looking forward to.seeing how the community likes this game and to see if it is a worthwhile pick up. Hard to play games like this with little kids, which will probably mean some late nights.

Dammit, what happened to Jimmy's post?!

So Steam lists The Evil Withi at 59 bucks. There are other sites like
Kinguin
that list offers for 35 bucks (with PayPal). Honestly I'm not even sure if it's kosher for me to be mentioning a site like that, but dang, 35 bucks seems like a steal...

It's been known for a while that the game can be ran through rather quickly. There is an achievement to do so after all. Kind of like saying REmake doesn't hold up as well because you can clear it under 3 hours.

Just depends on the type of player you are, how well you get into the game's mechanics, and where your priorities lie. I know I take a damn long while going through everything in a game until I have no choice but to move on, which generally extends game time significantly. But when I put my mind to it I can blow through areas quickly while still accomplishing everything.

At this rate everyone but me is going to play this in the weekend ( .__.)

Amazon is saying I'm not getting it until the 23rd...but I don't believe them

I would agree with this statement if this was New Game +, but it's not.

I don't see what the difference it makes, NG+ or not. For all we know Slasher is just getting through the game so he can have it done by Tuesday and do all the necessary work before he puts up the video, instead of exploring every single nook and cranny and taking time with it like most people playing their first time would.

I've played numerous games well under the given 'X' completion time from playing rather normally by not loitering much, as well as the opposite to where I significantly extend it by taking my damn sweet time getting into everything and not making any attempt to push through it.

If he beats it in 8-9 hours, good for him, just like good for the guy who is likely going to hit 16-17 hours. As long as the game is great, not to mention replayable, I don't see the big deal in length when most games in that genre typically aren't that long.

Than you, I will be exploiting this. Of course.

I wouldn't go that far. I know that some areas are much bigger then others according to that other poster. Will see. I'm taking my time btw. Not trying to rush in the slightest.

See were you are by the end of chapter 5, the time quoted was at the end of the chapter, not upon arriving. Also Chapter 6 seems to be longer than the previous chapters.

Well it took me a good 24 hours to get through RE4 my first time. So I thought the near 16 hours it took the other guy to get through this was fine. But since I've gotten used to RE4's style I can see me getting through this faster than I would've if I was new to the type of game.

I dunno I'm probably just going to commit and get it. Been waiting for this game ever since it was announced as Zwei. Just was hoping the length the other guy had was indicative of a playthrough of someone who was familiar with games like RE4 and such. A solid 12 hours would be fine by me.

Play times mean very little to me as I'm almost always above the expected time because I explore everything, look for items and secrets, and take my time just looking at stuff, taking stuff in.

An example is that while Alan Wake is a 10-12 hour long game, my first playthrough for me was something like 22-23 hours because I spent so much time exploring the forests, listening to every piece of dialogue in the daylight sections, just doing silly stuff, looking for collectibles, and so on.

Yeah. It seems like it varies from game to game for me. Some playtimes I match up with, while others I either do faster or slower. I think Grandia advertised an 80 hour playthrough but I'm pretty sure I did it in 50-60 and I did everything. lol.

Just really wondering if there's any surprises in Akumu mode and if there's any hidden modes. Not necessarily like Mercenaries, but something. I guess they would've said something by now though if there was.

NG+ makes a great difference. It's supposed to be the speed-run, where you have certain items unlocked. Running through Silent Hill 3 with the Beam Saber is going to reduce your time.

Your points are unfortunately irrelevant because that is no longer an average playthrough. Bethesda claims that it takes 15-20 hours to complete, that's literally one of their selling points. This is likely the average time on an average run for the average player. If Slasher keeps up his rate (unlikely, different chapters=different challenges/pacing) then he's on cue to be an incredible outlier. If we assume that my skills are close to Slasher's, then it's good to know that I'll most likely be severely undercutting Bethesda's estimate. I can now go in and expect a ~10 hour 1st playthrough.

Length matters to plenty, it's why everyone got upset at MGS: GZ

Yup, but I think you'll be coming under 15 hours. Either way, enjoy it, don't rush.
