Just finished the game.

Hate to say it but I found that my opinion of the game dropped quite a bit after chapter 10. The best stuff all comes in the first two-thirds of the game or so, after that it felt a bit like the game was being stretched out, and some of the set-pieces and bosses were total duds imo. it also felt like there was too much reliance on trial and error at times.

I also don't think this will hold up to replays anywhere near as well as RE4 because of all the 'cinematic' stuff the game forces on you.

I'm glad I played it and there's definitely some good stuff in there but overall I wish that the game was more like the early chapters than the latter. They almost feel like completely different games at times. Solid game but there's no way it's going to go down as a classic. It's just not effortless or consistent enough and the story amounts to very very little in the end.

Ok one niggle I have is opening doors, it does a preset standing walk animation for a good 5 seconds wrestling control from the player every single time

Make sure you smash crates just like in RE4, though this has been streamlined. Just press F.

I think if you press space twice it speeds up the animation.

Ever played Silent Hill Downpour where you press the joystick to open the door further? That was a challenge at first. I'm fine with something like this, especially if you can speed it up.

Can anyone help me with a question on Ch 3?

I've been exploring this village and it tells me to get a Chainsaw. So I go lure the guy out and I'm not sure if I'm suppose to kill him or not. I don't want to blow all my ammo on this one guy.

I can't get anymore checkpoints and I'd like to stop for the night. Am I suppose to kill him or do I get him to break the chain while he's swinging? I've poured some serious agony bolts and shotgun shells into him and nothing changes.

Also, I'm sick of killing the same stuff over and over.

Thanks!

You can just shoot him but the town is also full of traps you can lure him into.

i notice some texture pop in during the cut scenes

Once during a decapitation the textures for the head popped in ha.

I need to move this to the SSD and see if that improve that. Didn't happen much, most of it was awesome! Visuals are pretty damn impressive too.

I'd think a console port...I should be able to handle 60 fps with my current specs. If its one thing I dont like about playing PC games, its that i'm always unsure about performance.

I need to experience The Evil Within for myself.

Speeding it up means kicking the door in very loudly, not ideal for sneaking areas which is all I've been in so far

Screw it. I can save a few bucks on the game by using GMG, so why not. PS4 will be satisfied with Alien, PC version Within lets go.

Okay I couldn't access gaf today... I take it the game is available on PC already? Which regions do you guys leave in? Last time I checked it was not going to unlock until the 15th here in NZ D:

Question about the very first hide & seek section (fucking trial & error):
hide in the first locker, hide in the second locker (hopefully triggering the "saw through doorway" animation and hallway trudging (which has happened 2 out of every 5 attempts)), hide under the bed, then what? He destroys me no matter what I do after this point. I've gone left into the room, I've gone right. I'm getting tired of the chainsaw kill animation.

You should be able to just
trigger him one way and run around the other way. That or stab him when you sneak up behind

Trying the stealth approach and it works so far. Stealth kills and saving up ammo. This game is tense and the atmosphere sublime. Ambient sounds are good.

*wolf howls in the far*

For people who have been playing with the PC version - how's gamepad support?

Playing with gamepad. Works wonderfully. Standard X360 controller support. Using Xinput Wrapper to play with my Dualshock 3.

Environments look amazing in this. I actually am starting to like the filmic look it has. Maybe thats why they were pushing 30fps. It does look more like a movie at that rate, and the fps is a little more stable. They need to include the option in the settings though. To have to do a console tweak is stupid.

The art book has a great price on Amazon for the Kindle edition too. I preordered mine to lock in that price.

Hopefully someone comes up with a Dual Shock button icon mod for prompts. Actually button icon choices should be standard these days for any PC game that has controller support, especially if FFXIV of all games has it.
