Shinji Mikami's THE EVIL WITHIN |OT| Where's everyone going? Tango?

@JJ, not sure what you mean. You can just tilt the camera by standing at the edge and he'll peak in a bit. Otherwise there are plenty of windows to get a view of where chainsaw is.

Anyone made it to chapter 6 yet? I know I'm missing something totally obvious but none of the mirrors work and I'm stuck.

Be sure to explore the save/upgrade hub fully, it's in the beginning right?

I just felt it was really annoying when I was trying to get around the room on that side corridor and I could barely see where the chainsaw dude was because the black bars covered almost the whole window and I was not next to the door to see clearly where he was. Hopefully I'll adjust to it. I'm loving everything about the game except the bars.

And it seems like the option to force remove the black bars on PC just crops the image so I doubt the game is rendering the whole screen with just the black bars added for the cinematic effect.

Makes me believe the bars were more of a necessity to have better frame rates on consoles than a design choice.

Maybe they made the bars so big because they were not able to make the game run well enough with the bars the same size as RE4 (they were considerably smaller on RE4, at least on Gamecube. I never played the PS2 version).

How scary is this game? I can handle Resi Evil 4 scary (which is to say, not scary at all) but Silent Hill levels of scary gives me pause.

This is incredibly disheartening. Game starts in zoomed mode, rendering it unplayable.

FYI: from a helpful soul on the Steam forums:

"I had to change the compatibility settings for EvilWithin.exe. Try checking 'Disable display scaling on high DPI settings'. Not the first time I've had this issue running a game in my monitor's native resolution."

Love the game so far (CH.2). It looks stunning sometimes, reminding me of the SH2 cinematics. The performance is a huge shame though on PS4.. feels like it's running at 20fps most of the time.

I think the IQ is fine.

Not liking this too much so far. Runs like crap on ps4 and I can't stand the lighting. It's like it's too dark and bland. Contrast(?) is also weird. Thank god I could turn that awful grain off

Steam actually accepted my refund request. Nice.

These fucking amateurs will have to do better than spending less than 30 minutes a day developing a game before I throw a penny in their direction.

Does anyone get a John Carpenter vibe on some of the soundtrack?

Cool?

Now I can't tell because i'm on mobile, but do you have a Dark Souls avatar? Because, if so...

I'm not expecting a guy with a TEW-avatar to understand, but no, it's not only the black bars. It's simply the fact that it's a technical mess and they don't want to do anything about it.

I see most people in the PC performance thread very happy with the state of the port.

You just seem upset that the PC version crops the image in 16:9 aspect ratio. A fair concern, but you're clearly overreacting.

Of course I can understand. Just you're comment about devs only working 30 minutes was completelyy untrue and your just upset. Which is fine, just no need to undermine that entire team and the hard work they did do.Though what do I know about common decency, I'm a guy with a gaming avatar. ;)

Here is my really casual, laid back review for those that were interested. Footage is all fairly early on in the game. So no huge spoilers.

Awesome. I'll watch it soon. =D

Also just beat chapter 2.

This game is very intense. I was doing pretty good at being stealthy. I snuck around and made sure that I knew where the enemies were before commiting to a stealth kill on anyone.
I got to a house with a tripwire in it and I dismantled it. I threw a bottle out the back of the house but I was seen by an enemy there. He chased me and somehow, with a single shot, I blew his head up. I only had a second of relief before I saw a shadow on the floor near the front entrance. I panicked and hesitated to hide under the bed. By the time I did, he already saw me going under. I watched his feet come towards the bed, knowing he was gonna get me. He ducked and dragged me out. Luckily, he was nice enough to let me stand up before attacking. He got a hit in but I managed to do another head shot. Head was gone and I felt a sense of relief.

Loving this game so far. I hope it keeps this up.

Not impressed at all with the chainsaw dude beginning. It's kinda annoying. The blade room was cool. Now I'm in a locker waiting for this asshole to cut up the boxes so I can move on. Does he have to see me for a sec to start this?

Framerate is iffy on PS4. I've seen some bad texture pop in. All in all though I'm still optimistic about the experience. The graphics themselves are pretty nice. IT'S SO FUCKING GORY I LOVE IT!

Kinda annoyed with the locker waiting. Might just watch a movie for now.

Popped in to see Dusk stream. Whew, talk about tense! I'm in love with this game, may supersede any other game that comes out this year for me.

It is indeed a Dark Souls avatar. And yes, Dark Souls port is still an unacceptable mess.

I see most people in the PC performance thread very happy with the state of the port.

You just seem upset that the PC version crops the image in 16:9 aspect ratio. You seem like a very unpleasant person.

I don't share their experience. There's a lot of stuttering and pop-ins.

Of course it's untrue. I just don't get why they have to make it so hard to actually experience the game they have put so much work into? I'll never understand developers with this mentality.

"30fps and black bars is the right thing for this game guys, you can remove the lock and black bars but the game will not work".

I actually feel sorry for the designers who can't do shit because the rest of their them is complete garbage and clearly don't like what they're doing.

I just don't get it, why not hire someone who actually think it's a fun and interesting job? Why hire people with no commitment at all, with no interest in improving things?

The locker part only took me a few minutes. Not trying to gloat or anything. I guess I got lucky. What I did was wait til he smashed everything and left. I got out and went through the doorway on the left. I snuck around to make sure he wasn't watching while he raged to himself and I saw the 2nd locker down the hall. But he saw me when I tried to pass a doorway so I had to go through the square hole you have to duck under and I booked it straight down. You gotta weave through some stuff but you should be able to sprint enough to escape him. It's a pretty straightforward run too.

This game is everything I ever wanted. Oh my god. I love it so much. I'm only an hour in, so maybe my mind will change. But this is just...wow. Maybe it's just because I'm hopped on medication (from all the chemo + pain meds)....but I'm so happy right now.

Which is huge. I've been super depressed and broken from my medical treatment. I'm finding it a struggle to hold on. But this game really got me sucked in. I actually love the black borders, and the film grain. Because I love the overall style of the game, and it all comes together and looks like a horror film. I have to say, the FPS is disappointing. Especially when you've become used to 60 FPS on PC. But due to my sickness, I've been having to play this laying from my bed. Usually I sit close to my HDTV in my room, so I notice performance issues. But it's not as bad here, because I'm sitting across the room laying down. Well, that and I'm probably fucked up from the meds (so..maybe not the best judgement).

POINT IS, this is really a good thing for me. It's the tiny light in the darkness that has given me some joy. SO HAPPY WITH THIS!

1 hit, you're dead.

I kinda wish it were more than that. But I'll probably give it a try eventually. I'm already feeling like that'll be a difficult task. But the checkpoints help.

And I'm not sure how that Juli Kidman DLC will be so far since I haven't seen her much. So far her voice acting sounds like she wasn't into it but I guess we'll see. I only started chapter 3. lol

Yeah I was in the second locker. He cut up the boxes the first time but he saw me when I tried to go to the other room. The second time he just went in circles in the room and never tried to cut up the boxes.
